Ferrari Myth exhibition opens at Shanghai Expo Park
China is becoming a key market for a lot of automotive companies, including Ferrari and, as a thank you gift, the company has opened a new Myth exhibition at the Italian Center in Shanghai Expo Park. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the company’s Deputy Chairman Piero Ferrari, as well as representatives of both the Chinese and Italian governments. The new exhibition center covers an area of 900 square meters and will be open to the public for three years. Its aim is to introduce the Chinese to Ferrari and allow them to experience the history, cars, technologies, and passion of the Prancing Horse first-hand, thereby further consolidating the already strong links between the Italian marque and this nation. The models displayed are the 348 TS as the first Ferrari to enter the Chinese mainland market, a 275 GTB4, a 365 GTB4 Daytona, the 750 Monza sports prototype, and the FF. "For millions of people around the world, Ferrari represents the pinnacle of Italian culture," declared Piero Ferrari. "It is a symbol of passion, success and the constant pursuit of excellence. It has always been our wish to share Ferrari’s unique history and culture with the people of China who have shown great affection for the Prancing Horse and with whom we share core values such as respect for tradition and a tenacious spirit of innovation." James Glickenhaus’ Ferrari P4/5 Competizione just proved one more time has just proven yet again what a fantastic machine it is. According to Jalopnik, during the 24 Hours of Nürburgring qualifying round, the supercar lapped the famous Nurburgring in just 6:51. This makes it the fastest Ferrari ever around the Nurburgring, smashing the previous record of 6:58.16 held by the Ferrari 599XX. All Glickenhaus had to say about this impressive result was: "I think it’s pretty cool!" However, he did invite Ferrari to come and challenge their supercar. As most people already know, the Ferrari P4/5 Competizione was built on a Ferrari 430 Scuderia and, for this year’s 24 hours of Nürburgring, combined a hybrid drive system with a 4.0L V8 engine. This new hybrid system is very similar to the KERS system used in Formula 1 cars and added an extra 80 HP to the car’s total output, leaving it with an impressive 563 HP. 2007 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti Sessanta
Technically, Ferrari debuted in 1929, but its official debut is recognized as 1947, the year that Ferrari began manufacturing street-legal vehicles. The 2007 model year marked the 60th anniversary of Ferrari’s street machine building life and the automaker wanted to make it a special one. Instead of doing what many automakers do (see: Ford) by slapping “60th Anniversary” badges on every car that year, Ferrari chose to build 60 completely unique cars for the 2007 model year. To accomplish this, Ferrari took its existing 612 Scaglietti and modified it to create the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti Sessanta. As we said, only 60 of these cars were ever built, so they are rather rare. Add in the fact that this bad boy was a whopping $424,480 in 2007 and you can tell that these cars were built for the true collector. If you are a true collector of Ferrari’s and would like to own one that very well may be the Ferrari to own in the next 20 to 30 years, this Sessanta is a safe bet. F.C. Kerbeck, a dealer of luxury vehicles, is now offering you the opportunity to own one of these rare machines, as they have one up for sale in their showroom and on Ebay. The Ferrari Enzo’s successor has been in the pipeworks for upwards of five years now and with its launch creeping closer and closer every day, additional details are being released frequently. The latest information to be released is in regards to sales of the car codenamed the ‘F70’ and just which markets Ferrari plans to targets with its latest halo car. The U.S. has always been one of, if not the largest sales market for Ferrari. Ever since the brand’s inception in 1929, Americans have enveloped the Italian marque and as a result of this long history between duo, Ferrari aims to target the U.S. significantly. It also hopes it will be the car’s largest market when it goes on sale next year. A company insider who was speaking to Bloomberg released the information as well as a few other juicy details including the new car’s rumored price of $850,000 in the U.S., which will put it right in the same realm as the incredible Porsche 918 Spyder. Even though the U.S. is said to be the F70’s largest market when deliveries begin in mid or late 2013, less than 100 units are expected to make their way here if the 399 units of the Enzo which were produced are a guide as to how many of its successor will be produced. Ferrari expects the F70 to completely reshape the automotive industry as it should pave the way for other supercars to follow and if the rumors are to be believed, it’ll feature an incredible V12 engine pumping out 800HP by itself or 920HP when combined with the advanced KERS system. 2012 Ferrari 458 Italia Spyder Monaco by Mansory
The Top Marques Monaco is without question one of the most important dates on the tuning calendar, particularly because of the location it’s held at every year. Nothing speaks more to millionaires throwing their money around than Monte Carlo, and some of the best tuners use that platform to show off their latest programs. Now that the 2012 Top Marques Monaco has come and gone, we can definitely say that the tuners in attendance gave us programs that were for the books. One in particular was Mansory, which only recently wowed us at Geneva with not one, not two, not three, but four programs for some of the finest exotics in the land. For their Monaco offering, the Swiss tuner brought their very first program for the Ferrari 458 Italia Spyder, appropriately called "Monaco." As you can expect, Mansory did some serious bodywork upgrades on the 458 Italia Spyder, complete with a body kit that’s made out of carbon fiber. The kit includes a restyled front apron with air inlets for the front coolers, a new bonnet, side skirts with integrated ducts, a rear skirt with an integrated diffuser, carbon blades that replace the rear window, and a rear wing. All told, the carbon fiber components shaved of 60 kg (132 lbs) from the supercar’s overall weight. Under the hood of the Italian stallion, Mansory reprogrammed the ECU, the sports air filter, and the sport exhaust, translating to an increased output of 590 horsepower and 413 lb/ft of torque with a 0-62 mph time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 205 mph. UPDATE 05/16/2012: Mansory has unveiled a new set of images for their latest 458 Italia Spyder Monaco Edition. Check out the picture gallery to see the new images! Check out the video after the jump! Full story RM Auctions’ Monaco event scores big with record sales
RM Auctions’ in Monano has proved yet again that classic Ferrari models will never lose their value. A 1957 Ferrari 625 TRC Scaglietti Spider was auctioned off for an staggering €5,040,000, or about $6.4 million, a record for this particular model. This was the first time in 30 years that this model was available for auction and it is one of the only two models ever built. Next to this Ferrari, Monaco scored impressive sales of up to €33.5 million, about $43 million at the current exchange rates. The list of the most expensive models include: a 1952 Ferrari 225 Sport Spyder ’Tuboscocca’ and a 1966 Ferrari 206 S Dino Spyder each fetching an impressive €2,520,000 (about $3.2 million), a 1971 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spyder sold for €1,008,000 ($1.3 million), the Ferrari F1-2000 Racing Car raced by Michael Schumacher on his way to the 2000 Driver’s Championship for €806,400 ($1 million), and the highly anticipated 1953 Timossi-Ferrari ’Arno XI’ Racing Hydroplane for €868,000 ($1.1 million). "Monaco 2012 has been a fantastic success. With in excess of 33.5 million sold, this sale rates as one of Europe’s highest grossing collector car sales of all time and most certainly the highest grossing collector car auction in Europe this year. Once again, RM has proved itself to be the preeminent force in the collector car auction scene," says Max Girardo, Managing Director, RM Europe. 2012 Ferrari 458 Italia Spider "Perfetto" by Wheelsandmore
When you have a tuning program that’s being described as ’perfect’ the same way Wheelsandmore is calling the Ferrari 458 Italia Spider "Perfetto", then there’s some serious living up to do to justify that ’perfetto’ claim. The German tuner went to serious lengths to give the Italian supercar some serious modifications. On the outside, Wheelsandmore fitted the 458 Italia Spider with a plethora of new carbon fiber components on the rear diffuser, the fuel cap, the rear fog lamp frames, mirrors and spoiler fins. On top of that, the supercar’s interior, trunk and engine compartment were all refined, thanks to new side panels, a custom-fit trunk tray, and a final panel for the rear window trim. Even the wheel well and the entire lower floor can be refined to replace the autoclave produced high-performance carbon-fiber components with a matte finish. The addition of all these carbon fiber components resulted in a reduced weight of 30 kg. Rounding out the aesthetic upgrades are a new set of 21" 6Sporz ² forged rims wrapped in Hankook tires. Sounds pretty ’perfetto’ to us. For the performance upgrade, Wheelsandmore took the 458 Italia’s 4.5-liter V8 engine and added plenty of new modifications, including its newly developed Carbonairbox. Add in the installation of manifolds, the addition of a flip-controlled exhaust system, and software optimization, and you have an increased output of 647 horsepower and 468 lb/ft of torque, a drastic improvement from the standard model’s 570 horsepower and 400 lb/ft of torque numbers. Three die in horrific Singapore crash involving Ferrari 599 GTO
Despite their often feather-light bodies and extreme powerful engines, supercars are some of the safest cars on the planet thanks in part to the extensive use of composite materials, such as carbon fiber. However, no amount of safety can save people from recklessness as highlighted in the following crash which occurred recently in Singapore. The Ferrari 599 GTO, which is the fastest car ever produced by Ferrari, was being driven by local businessman Ma Chi when it collided with a taxi after the GTO ran a red light, killing the taxi driver, taxi passenger, and Ma Chi himself. A motorcycle was also involved in the incident with the rider escaping with serious spinal injuries, while the 20-year-old female passenger from the Ferrari suffered head injuries and was treated on the scene. As you would expect, the scene of the crash was littered with debris and the most surprising thing to come out of this crash is that it all seems to have been caught on tape. A GIF image reportedly showing the Ferrari running a red light and hitting the taxi was posted on Twitter and soon converted into a YouTube video which you can see after the jump. It’s currently unclear if alcohol was involved in the incident, but whatever caused the crash, three people have died and 2 others have been seriously injured so no amount of inquests or autopsies will ever heal the wounds of those who lost loved ones in this traumatic crash. The moral of this story is extremely clear: Never run red lights and always drive responsibly. Full story Ferrari Millenio designed by Marko Petrovic and Yanko Design
In the world of futuristic materials and components for future cars, we never thought that carbon fiber would be superseded by something called buckypaper, but if Marko Petrovic’s design ever comes to fruition, then we could see a lot more cars being constructed out of this material featuring carbon nanotubes. Buckypaper is currently in its early stages of development but promises to be both stronger and lighter than carbon fiber. Of course, this material is unlikely to ever be used in the automotive industry for at least another 50 to 100 years, so this futuristic concept shows what Ferrari may be producing in the next century and has been dubbed the Ferrari Millenio by its designer. As you can see from the incredibly detailed renderings, the Millenio is a two-seater supercar that features no roof, no windscreen, and no doors, just like the Lamborghini Aventador J speedster. If the car ever reaches production (which is extremely, extremely unlikely), it would feature two electric motors which can be recharged via solar panels molded around the bodywork or through a traditional power point socket. The Millenio also features a whole host of LCD-displays throughout the cockpit with the prominent speedometer being the focal point of the interior. Even though the Millenio was designed well before the introduction of the Lamborghini Aventador J, its lack of well-padded seats like the J could indicate that future sports cars may opt for decreased weight in favor of comfort, but for all we know, by 2112, we may all be flying around in futuristic cars powered solely by energy-efficient and environmentally friendly electronic systems. Nevertheless, it’s great to see designers out there continuing to push the envelope of design and that’s one thing we never want to change. | featured reviews:
