When Fiat->ke30 went about and revived the 500->ke1708 line, we didn't know they had so many trims planned for the little-hatchback-that-could.

Earlier this week, reports of a 500XL were making the rounds. That was even preceded by the 500C, the 500L, and the 500X.

Now, it's the 500 Turbo's turn.

The Fiat 500 Turbo is, for all intents and purposes, a rebadged Abarth 500 with a few notable changes to the look and performance make-up of the car. Nevertheless, whatever you're getting for the Abarth 500, the 500 Turbo is offering it in about 80% dosage.

Not surprisingly, the 500 Turbo costs more than you would expect for a hatchback. The $19,000 price tag, whatever shape or form they come in, is still a tad too pricey for a car like the 500. Even if it's been prepared as a 'turbo' model.

Exterior

The kind of changes you'd expect from the Fiat 500 Turbo are all there, and with some fancy additions to boot. For starters, the 500 Turbo comes in a number of color options, including Argento (silver), Bianco (white), Grigio (gray), Nero (black), Rame (copper), Rosso (red), and an all-new Verde Azzurro (green & blue) color.

The car's front fascia is reminiscent of the Abarth 500 except that instead of the Abarth badge, it's the Fiat badge that's plastered on the front. Likewise, the car's headlights, turn signals, and taillights have been dressed in black bezels, replacing the chromed units from the standard 500.

The car also has side skirts, which you might notice are also taken from the 500 Abarth and replaced with smaller versions. From there, the car's rear fascia also takes cues from the 500 Abarth while the new set of 16" aluminum alloy wheels with black painted pockets and wrapped in 195/45R16XL low profile tires.

Interior

Inside, the Fiat 500 Turbo gets sport-styled seating, a sport-designed leather-wrapped shift knob, and a steering wheel that comes with Argento (silver) stitching, and a Grigio/Nero (gray/black) finish on the seats and the interior environment. As an added option, customers can opt for heated leather seating in Nero/Nero (black/black) or vivid Rosso/Nero (red/black) colors.

The 500 Turbo also comes with something that you can call a first in a small car: a Beats by Dr. Dre audio system. The available Beats Audio studio-quality sound system set-up includes six premium speakers, an 8-inch dual-voice coil (DVC) subwoofer with trunk-mounted enclosure, and an eight-channel 368-watt amplifier with Beats Audio digital sound processing (DSP) algorithm.

Performance

The 500 Turbo is powered by a twin intercooled 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine that puts out 135 horsepower and 150 lb/ft of torque. Do the math and that's a significant increase from the 101 horsepower and 98 lb/ft of torque from the standard 500. The increased output allows the car to go through an upgraded driveline utilizing the heavy duty C510 five-speed transmission and features equal length driveshafts.

The driveshaft's diameter was also increased to 23 percent (28.1 mm vs. 22.8 mm) compared with Fiat 500 half shafts, something Fiat did to eliminate the car's torque steer.

Pricing

The 2013 Fiat 500 Turbo will hit dealerships later this year carrying a price tag of $19,500.

Competition

Save for all the plush additions to the car's exterior and interior, the Fiat 500 Turbo is pretty much an Abarth 500 badged as a Fiat. So if you're choosing between the two, the 500 Turbo's cheaper price - the Abarth 500 has been priced at $22,000 - makes for a more appealing choice.
