2014 Fiat 500L Beats Edition

The Fiat 500L is the bigger version of the fun and funky Italian Fiat 500. In the stretch, some of the style and excitement was lost in the larger design. Where the 500 looks cute and lithe, the 500L looks a little…frumpy. The larger front end is a bit lumpy, and the longer wheelbase upset the near perfect proportions of the normal 500 .

Fiat has just gone a long way to improving the overall look and style of the 500L with the new Fiat 500L Beats Edition. With a full collection of special exterior embellishments and changes, added to a similar interior treatment, the 500L Beats Edition looks good.

Apart from the improved styling the Beats Edition also comes loaded with a signature Beats Audio stereo. As you may have guessed, the Beats By Dr. Dre stereo collaboration is what paved the way for this stylish five-door’s creation.

Read on for more details on the Fiat 500L Beats Edition

Exterior

Fiat 500L Beats Edition

The outside of the Beats Edition uses a smart combination of colors, finishes and details to make the overall package of the 500L better than the sum of its previous parts. The exterior of the Beats Edition is being sold in a collection of two-tone colors that include black body with a gray roof, or a gray body with a black roof; both colors are gloss paint. The best looking version is also a gray body with a black roof, but instead of the gloss paint it’s a matte finish.

Regardless of your color choice, many of the details on the outside are satin chrome. The Mirror fairings, grille and tailgate handle are all made of the shiny stuff. The wheels and body kit are all painted in a matte black. The final touch of flair on the exterior design is a splash of red on the brake calipers and on an insert in the mirror housing.

The seats are black, but they are covered in a special fabric/leather combination and the whole thing is put together with red stitching.

The big story on the inside is that stereo though. With 520 watts and seven speakers the stereo is capable of pumping out some serious volume. The system also has an amplifier with DSP and 8 channels and runs through an advanced equalization program.

The end result is studio quality sound inside of your new Fiat.

Drivetrain

Fiat 500L Beats Edition

The engine options for the 500L Beats Edition include a pair of gasoline engines and a pair of diesels. The gasoline-burning line is made up of a 1.4-T-Jet four-cylinder making 120 horsepower and a .9-liter, two-cylinder, TwinAir Turbo with 105 horsepower. The turbodiesel choices are Fiat’s 105-horsepower MultiJet II, and an upgraded 120-horsepower version of the same 1.6-liter mill.

As you can guess by these engine choices, the Beats Edition is not yet for U.S. consumption, as our version of the 500L is loaded with the 160-horsepower turbocharged MultiAir engine.

Price

Fiat 500L Beats Edition

The price of the upcoming Fiat 500L Beats Edition has not been released. Expect it to be priced at the top of the range, however.

Competition

Mini Cooper Countryman

The Cooper Countryman is a nearly identical style of vehicle to the 500L. It’s based on a smaller stylish car that has been stretched to become a spacious five-door. The Mini is more expensive, but it is more stylish than the basic 500L. What the Mini can’t match is the Fiat’s awesome stereo and there is no matte finish paint option either.

Conclusion

Fiat 500L Beats Edition

The Fiat 500L Beats Edition is the best version of the largest 500. It has the most menacing visual presence, and the best stereo. We do lament the fact that it doesn’t offer the same powerful engine choices as the US. With a max horsepower rating of 120 horsepower, we feel the car will be sluggish in its performance.

Press Release

Fiat 500L Beats Edition

The new Fiat 500L Beats EditionTM is a special series created with Beats By Dr. Dre, the brand that in the wake of its success in the USA is rapidly establishing itself in Europe.

At the top of the 500L range owing to its wealth of features and distinctive and metropolitan look, the new car was created on the basis of the Fiat 500L Trekking, a development of the 500 family with two perfectly fused souls which love to play off one another every day: one metropolitan, for breezing through the city, and one more adventurous, perfect for those little weekend emotions that make life worth living.

Compared to the 500L Trekking model, the Fiat 500L Beats Edition further enhances its ’urban’ soul by offering the perfect combination of technology and a metropolitan look. BeatsAudioTM premium signature sound will certainly win over the most demanding music lovers.

Exteriors

Fiat 500L Beats Edition

The Fiat 500L Beats EditionTM features a refined two-tone livery that, according to the market, may be grey body/black roof, both with matte paint, or black/grey or grey/black with glossy paint.

All three colour combinations are elegantly embellished with several satin chrome accents - mirror fairings, front ’whiskers’ and tailgate handle- and other parts painted matteblack: from wings, skirts and 17" alloy wheels to the front and rear bumpers.

The Fiat 500L Beats EditionTM completes its look with a red insert on the mirror fairings and brake calipers, also red, in addition to the distinctive all-terrain look teamed with a high ride and specially designed bumpers with protective shield.

Interiors

Fiat 500L Beats Edition

The same style, which evokes the fusion of technology and metropolitan look, is to be found inside, where the matte grey dashboard and dedicated Total Black trim level stand out. More specifically, the seats are upholstered in a special black fabric/eco-leather enhanced by the red of the stitching and the ’500’ logo on the front backrest.

Signature Beats Sound System

The Fiat 500L Beats EditionTM offers a sound system that is revolutionizing the way music can be experienced inside the car. Legendary artist and record producer Dr. Dre and Interscope Geffen A&M Records chairman and record producer Jimmy Iovine, worked side by side with Fiat Group sound engineers to develop and calibrate the sound system introduced for the first time last year on the 500L model. The result is a system that offers a listening experience marked by premium sound that only two music experts like Dr. Dre and Iovine could have achieved.

In particular, the BeatsAudioTM system boasts 520 W of total power, divided between two 80 W (Ø 165 mm) mid-woofer speakers placed in the lower part of the front door panel; two 40 W (Ø 38 mm) tweeter speakers placed in the upper part of the front door panel; two 60 W (Ø 165 mm) full-range speakers placed in the rear door panel; and one 80 + 80 W (Ø 165 mm) subwoofer located in the boot - in place of the spare wheel in order to not reduce loading capacity - which ensures dynamic and powerful bass and maximises the listening experience across a wide range of music genres, from hip hop to soul. The BeatsAudioTM system is complete with an amplifier with DSP and 8 channels that integrate an advanced equalisation algorithm, recreating the sound spectrum that only an artist experiences during studio recordings.

Engine versions

The Fiat 500L Beats EditionTM is available with two petrol engines - 120 HP 1.4 T-Jet and 105 HP 0.9 TwinAir Turbo - and two turbodiesel engines: 105 HP 1.6 MultiJet II and 120 HP 1.6 MultiJet II. Among the engines that best demonstrate the metropolitan spirit of the new special series, the 1.6 MultiJet II - in both power versions - definitely stands out. Thanks to a torque which is already high at low engine speeds, it proves a highly flexible engine which is therefore ideal for every situation and every road.

Traction +

The Fiat 500L Beats EditionTM offers as standard smart front-wheel drive with Traction+ technology which, together with Mud and Snow "snowflake" tyres (also as standard), improves the vehicle’s handling on terrain with poor grip. All of this without compromising on the space and functionality of the 500L, the Fiat City Lounge designed to accommodate life’s little pleasures and greatest joys all together - children, friends, travelling - thanks to its 3.17 m3 of passenger volume and a spacious, regular-shaped luggage compartment offering no fewer than 455 litres.

Equipment

The Fiat 500L Beats EditionTM is packed with high-value equipment as demonstrated by some important standard content. In addition to the automatic climate control, it comes with electric rear windows, fog lights, the Traction+ system, 17" alloy wheels, the Mud and Snow ’snowflake’ tyres, the Uconnect system with 5" touchscreen, automatic headlights, rain sensor and privacy windows.
