2011 Fiat Freemont
As Fiat turns over a new chapter in their partnership with Chrysler, the Italian automaker is getting ready to introduce a new member to their already growing family, the Fiat Freemont SUV. The Freemont, which is based on the Dodge Journey, is one of the first vehicles to be born out of the Fiat-Chrysler alliance and is set to make its debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show with sales expected to begin sometime around the latter part of the year. Pricing for the Freemont is still being kept under wraps with Fiat opting to release spec details of the new SUV leading up to its debut in Geneva this March. The Freemont is set to be produced at the company’s Mexican plant of Toluca where it will share the same roof as that of another Fiat vehicle that’s also making its way north of the border: the US version of the Fiat 500. UPDATE 02/15/11: Fiat has just released more photos of the Fiat Freemont, particularly the SUV’s pretty spacious interior, including that impressive center console with chalk-full of unique features. Check them out in the gallery after the jump. UPDATE 04/09/11: Fiat has finally opened the Freemont up for sale in Italy. Details on the prices can be found after the jump. Okay, just reading the name of this car should make everyone wonder just how much it is going to cost, and don’t worry, we’ll get to that. First let’s introduce the car. The Abarth 500C is typically no more than about $25,000 and features lots of little goodies, like that four cylinder inline engine that delivers a weak 140hp. Now add a tuning package from Fenice-Milano that consists of a little bling bling, and now this expensive ride starts to sparkle. Just how expensive is this little car? Well, take the base Abarth 500C, add 24k gold inserts and an Apple iPad Supreme Edition made out of 24k gold and diamonds, and now you got yourself a $660,000 vehicle. That’s right, that is what a Chinese customer ordered and paid for this bedazzled 500. Ridiculous? Absolutely. Intriguing? Hell yeah! Hit the jump to read more about the Fenice-Milano La Dolce Vita Gold and Diamonds 500C. Full story 2010 Abarth 500 Estremo by Romeo Ferraris
A standard Abarth 500 develops a total of 135 HP, but how about cranking it up a few notches and almost doubling the output? The package capable of this comes from Romeo Ferraris and is called the Estremo (that’s Italian for extreme). Their package develops a total of 260 HP and can be ordered for both coupe and convertible versions. The car is painted in Blu Pozzi, an exterior color reserved for supercars like the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti and 599 GTB. The exterior also gets ice cap chromed mirrors, opening vertical doors, and "260 hp Far" applied on the hood and tailgate . For the interior, the tuner is has chosen tobacco colors for the grain leather coating for the sports seats and all the plastic parts (instrument panel, door panels, rear panels, pillars). The sun visors and surface of the trunk get special carpeting and Alcantara. In order to obtain the 260 ponies, the tuner has modified the parameters of the ECU and replaced most of the standard components of the engine compartment with high-performance products (turbine, injectors, pistons, camshaft, flywheel intercooler and front). Fiat 500 makes artsy US debut at Exhibitalia in Miami
With the increasing number of tuned-up and special edition Fiat 500s being released recently, it didn’t really come as a surprise to us that Fiat was going to do something unique with the 500 to introduce itself to the US market. And wouldn’t you know it, they actually did. The setting was the four-day Exhibitalia event in Miami where Fiat was on hand to participate in its first American art exhibit. During the four-day event, the Italian automaker displayed an array of vintage and new Fiat 500 models, showcasing the model’s iconic Italian design. Fiat’s involvement at the Exhibitalia event at the Art Basel in Miami also included the participation of a number of renowned artists and two student teams from the University of Miami, all of whom worked on the car as their “inspiration and canvas” in the creation of their artworks. While others opted to create designs using certain body panels of the little hatchback, one such artist – Christian Balzano – decided to use the whole car and turn it into his own personal Fiat 500 Art car. As far as US debuts are concerned, you have to hand it to Fiat for doing its part to ensure splashy debut for their popular 500 hatchback. Short Press Release after the jump. Full story 2010 Abarth 500 Monza
The Fiat Abarth 500 has become one of the more popular hot hatches to sprout special editions these days and this Abarth 500 ‘Monza’ edition is no different. Limited to only 10 units, this limited run hot hatch pays tribute to the legendary Italian racetrack just north of Milan. Though it’s not as fancy and as flamboyant as many other special edition 500s we’ve seen in the past, the Abarth 500 Monza’s combination of sound and simple aesthetic interpretation and surprising performance power makes it a real collector’s dream. The fact that only ten people in the world can have a chance to own one makes it that much more enticing. Full story 2012 Fiat 500 Bicolore Edition
Fiat’s little 500 hatchback is gaining quite a reputation as a special-edition friendly model. We’ve already seen a number of them in the past, but it seems that Fiat isn’t done with releasing special edition models. The latest to come out of the Fiat woodwork is the 500 Bicolore Edition, which the Italian automaker revealed at the Bologna Motor Show. So what sets this particular 500 apart from other models? Well, taking from its name ‘bicolore’, Fiat dressed up the car in a two-tone paint finish comprising of white on top and red on the bottom, separated by a line where the bonnet meets the body. Similarly, Fiat used the same treatment on the inside of the passenger compartment, which should add more life to the car’s interior. Apart from that, Fiat left everything the way it was, which really isn’t so much as a bad thing because added features mean increased cost. In the end, we liked the way Fiat treated the Bicolore Edition 500 - classy without going too overboard. Details after the jump. Full story 2010 Fiat 500 Abarth by Novitec
While a standard Fiat 500 develops around 100 HP, Abarth managed to do a bit of tweaking to the hatchback’s engine to increase this output to 135 HP. This was a pretty good little boost, but in the hands of another tuner, this output could still be improved. And this is where Novitec took the hatchback coupe and gave it a little makeover of its own, providing some engine updates and a couple of minor exterior modifications. The first kit to come upon the Abarth 500 is the NT4-CORSE power kit. This kit runs 3,016 Euro and boosts the 500’s power to 164hp. Novitec accomplished this by adding a special turbocharger with a more efficient air supply to cool it down. Assisting the engine are larger injection nozzles and a special fuel pressure control. After that it was an optimized air-cleaner box with sport air-filter cartridge and a Novitec CORSE high performance exhaust system to round off the kit. The second kit from Novitec is a tuning kit called the NT4-CORSE. This package provides a power boost to 212hp with the use of stainless-steel sport mufflers and high performance exhaust systems, available with one or two tailpipes in various shapes. The cost for this kit was not provided, but whatever the base price is, it is slightly increased if the customers opts for sport springs, a height-adjustable sport suspension made from stainless steel, 17 or 18" light alloy wheels, and a carbon front spoiler lip. Not all police cars can be a Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 Polizia Stradale or even a Stealth Ford Police Interceptor concept, so Bilstein has come up with a less dramatic police car and will be bringing it to the 2010 Essen Motorshow starting this weekend. Bilstein’s interpretation of a police car doesn’t necessarily have tons of horsepower under its hood, nor is it big enough to scare even the puniest of criminals. No, their choice for a police car is the cutesy Fiat 500 Abarth, proving that even the smallest cars on the market can be police cars. The Fiat 500 Abarth in Polizia livery may not scare the living daylights out of Ms. Daisy, but any tuning fan will enjoy the Bilstein B14 threaded kit added to the hatchback. This kit comes with variable height-adjustment and adds a cool look to the otherwise mundane vehicle. We are going to venture a guess that this will not be the most exciting model to appear on the Essen Motorshow’s floor. Actually, we are desperately hoping this is not one of the highlights, but the Porsche Panamera Racing Car by H&R and the Porsche 911 BT1000 by 9ff will be there, so we can rest easy. Stay with us from Sunday November 27th to Saturday December 5th to see what other cool tuned cars will see in Essen. 2010 Fiat 500 by Hamann & H&R
The Fiat 500 is adored because of its cute and retro styling, and now German tuners, Hamann, and suspension specialists, H&R, have given us even more reason to like the little runabout. This tuned version is due to debut at the Essen Motorshow in Germany going on from November 27th through December 5th. To add a little funk to the hatchback, Hamann upped the power from 135HP to a GTi-worrying 275HP thanks to some clever ECU tuning and a new exhaust. They also kitted the 500 out with new bumpers, sideskirts, and two-tone Hamann wheels that reveal the beefed up braking system. We’re not sure on the body vinyl yet, but do love the performance potential from the sorted 1.4 liter turbo mill under the bonnet. Power without control means nothing – especially in a small FWD car. So, to help make full use of the new-found ponies, H&R have developed a lowering kit for the Hamann 500 that gets it lower to the ground, promoting nippy handling and good driver feedback. They also fitted a set of their billet wheel spacers to beef up the appearance of the cute car that will surely get it noticed more often while helping out the dynamics as well. 2012 Fiat 500
Fiat is making a come-back to the US market with the smallest model in their line-up: the 500. Making its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the 500 has been heavily adapted for the U.S. customer. It will be offered in three versions: Pop, Sport, and Lounge and prices start from $15,500, but a Fiat 500 with a few options added and a 6-speed automatic transmission will easily take you to $20K. Compared to the European model, the 500 US version receives a redesigned body structure for increased strength, exclusively tailored suspension, new four-wheel anti-lock disc brake system (ABS) with redesigned front calipers for optimum brake performance, larger fuel tank, redesigned driver and front-passenger seats, new steering wheel controls and revised steering effort calibration and a new BOSE® Energy Efficient Series premium audio system. It also gets an all-new air bag system created to meet all U.S. regulatory requirements. Under the hood there is an all-new 1.4-liter, in-line four-cylinder engine with state-of-the-art MultiAir technology that delivers 101 HP at 6,500 rpm and 98 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm. Also, exclusive for the US market there is an all-new six-speed automatic transmission. Updated 08/03/2010: Fiat USA has launched a new ad campaign in the United States to promote the tiny 500. There are two commercials promoting the model: "Simply More" and "Drive In." Enjoy! Press release after the jump. Full story | featured reviews:
