We’re only a few months away from seeing Ford dealerships packed with 2015 Mustangs , but the Blue Oval automaker is still trying to keep some of the essentials in the vault. Luckily enough, it’s not really working, as more and more details continue to leak out. Less than a month ago, for instance, we got a taste of the pony’s options, packages and their pricing via the first major 2015 Mustang leak . Now we’re about to have a look at the vehicle’s ordering guide, which sheds even more light on what customers will be able to have their Mustang fitted with once it goes on sale.

The guide is quite extensive and consists of 21 pages, but we’re already familiar with some of its content, like standard features, colors and what packages each trim level can be equipped with. New on the sheet, however, are the contents of the Performance Package that can be had with both the EcoBoost and the GT models.

For $1,995 — as it was revealed by the previous drip — the bundle will add goodies such as a larger radiator and rear sway bar, heavy-duty front springs, larger brake rotors, 19-inch Gloss Black aluminum wheels and a spoiler delete. Additionally, the pony will benefit from a unique chassis tuning and calibration.

Moving over to the Mustang GT, the package will bring most of the features and tweaks from the EcoBoost plus 3.73 Torsen limited-slip differential, a strut tower brace, a K Brace and Brembo six-piston front brakes, the latter only available on vehicles selected with a manual transmission. For the GT, the Performance Package is priced at $2,495.

You might also be interested in having a look at the five wheel designs that Ford will be offering. They all come in 19-inch sizes, but feature different twin-spoke styling and a multi-spoke design. None of them, however, are available as standard and require a Performance Package or a 50 Years Appearance Package.

You’re probably wondering why we’ve been talking about all of the above and haven’t said anything about performance specs. Well, the order guide doesn’t list any of them, with the respective sections being marked as TBA. Looks like we’ll have to wait a bit longer to find out more about horsepower, torque and 0-to-60 mph times. Make sure you stick around, ’cause we’ll be back as soon as we lay our eyes on them.

The celebrations over the Mustang’s 50th birthday have been nothing but extraordinary — from launching a completely redesigned model for 2015 to displaying a drop-top pony atop the Empire State building, Ford and its fans have been having a good year. However, the guys in this video have quite literally topped all other efforts by sending a model Mustang to space.

Yep, the guys strapped a plastic Revell kit Mustang to a weather balloon fitted with cameras and sent it off to space. The video is edited down to under three minutes, but it documents the major points in the Mustang’s journey. It took 74 minutes for the Mustang to reach its maximum height of 110,000 feet before the balloon burst, allowing the car and its cameras to plummet to earth some 21 miles below.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect about the Mustang’s ascension into space is when the original pony car debuted some 50 years prior in 1965, the American Space Race was just heating up. The United States went on to land men on the moon in 1969 while Ford’s Mustang has moved to become a global product for 2015 and one of the most iconic vehicles to ever roam the streets.

We’ve learned everything Ford would tell us about the 2015 Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition at the New York Auto Show last month, when the iconic pony turned half a century, but what Ford failed to mention is that this special muscle car will also get a convertible version.

Unfortunately, the drop-top pony isn’t intended to hit dealerships along with other 2015 Mustangs . The 50 Year Limited Edition-based cabriolet will only be built as a one-off, with its lucky owner to be decided through a charitable raffle.

Finished in Wimbledon White and fitted with all the amenities found on the 50th Anniversary Mustang, this unique ride will be equipped with a special instrument panel badge with serial number 0001 of 0001 and signed by company Executive Chairman Bill Ford. Just like the 50 Year Limited Edition, the convertible will be built in GT guise, with the iconic 5.0-liter, V-8 Coyote engine under the hood.

The muscle car will be donated to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, who is raffling it to raise funds for its "No Opportunity Wasted" MS research initiative. The raffle tickets can be purchased in "limited numbers" through both the National MS Society and Ford, as well as on Ford4MS.com, for $20 each. The Society is hoping to raise $2 million for the unique Mustang, which shouldn’t be too hard. To achieve this goal, Ford and the National MS Society need to sell 100,000 tickets.

The winning raffle ticket will be drawn during the Woodward Dream Cruise on August 16.

The 2015 Ford Mustang is one of those cars that really doesn’t need too much advertising. It already stands out just by its presence, and there’s something about the Mustang badge that attracts buyers like a moths to a flame. People love the Mustang so much that there are those willing to spend money to have the muscle car appear in some pretty weird music videos.

Scott Winn and Derek Pueblo, together with a musical duo that call themselves Scott & Brendo, have created a music video of the latter’s song "Shimmy Fallon" in what looks like their entry to Ford’s #inamustang competition. The objective of the competition is to find the best Mustang story with the winner getting its entry used to inspire an actual film.

Directed by Winn, the music video has a pretty weird "80’s Aerobic Dance Battle" theme. But what’s even weirder, or funnier depending on how you view the video, is the sheer absurdity of the whole concept. 80’s aerobics? Really?

It’s so silly you can’t help but let out a few chuckles yourself. But it is entertaining in its own way, that much we’ll say.

The only comment we have is why the Mustang looks like its been relegated to the background.

Okay, folks, the 2014 New York International Auto Show is in the books, and we saw more debuts than we could even keep up with. We saw all of the big boys come with at least one key addition to their lineups, but we also had a few misses. For example. we were hoping to see the Hellcat option for the Challenger and Charger , and some extra information on the next-gen Miata — not just a glimpse at its chassis — neither of which happened.

As with every year, we are set to bring you the best and worst of the NYIAS, but we’re changing things up a bit. This year, each of our esteemed staffers has chosen their favorite and least favorite of the show and let you know why they loved or hated each one — some of us even had complete opposite opinions. Included in the list below is the Dart-ized Charger, the even-more-retro Challenger, a concept from Land Rover and even a "dirt cheap" Aston Martin .

Although production of the 2015 Ford Mustang has yet to commence, the pony is attracting a great deal of attention as everyone, potential customers and enthusiasts alike, are champing at the bit waiting for final specs and pricing figures to come out. The wait shouldn’t last much longer, but if you already find it unbearable, we have some preliminary pricing and options information to keep you busy until the Ford spills the beans.

Specifically, some of the details the Blue Oval company has introduced in its dealer ordering system have surfaced on the Interwebz, via a batch of snapshots taken by a few willing folks. Pricing for the actual vehicle is not included, but don’t be disappointed, there’s plenty of stuff to chew on.

For instance, the leaked data comes to confirm that Ford will, once again, offer a pony slotted atop the Mustang GT for the 2015 model year. Although the documents do not reveal what sort of badge the vehicle will wear, its different body code suggests we’re in for more than just a polished GT.

Ford ’s intentions with the brand-new, sixth-generation Mustang are more than obvious. The more European design, the independent rear suspension and the new tech behind it are there with one purpose, to make it appealing to a global audience.

Sure, the Mustang benefits from a 50-year-long history and its iconic, American charm, but Ford was aware that most non-U.S. costumers that haven’t been touched by the muscle car bug were more likely to choose other offerings, such as a BMW 4 Series, over the ’Stang. Hence the diluted recipe for the 2015 model, one that has been acclaimed and criticized as well since day one.

It’s been a little more than four months since the Blue Oval took the wraps off the new Mustang , but new details around the pony are still to come. While we’re anxiously waiting for Detroit to release final performance numbers and pricing figures, the manufacturer introduced us to yet another brand-new feature that will come with the Mustang: electronic line-lock.

Don’t let the name confuse you, this is no groundbreaking technology set to improve handling or braking, but an electronic burnout-control system that enables the driver to burn rubber without risking damage to the clutch. To put it simple, when activated, the feature gains access to the stability control’s hydraulic control unit and locks the front brakes while releasing the rear brakes. This means the driver can do a burnout without having to worry about finding the perfect balance while keeping one foot on the brake pedal and the other on the throttle.

Now don’t go thinking that this new gimmick, which comes standard on Mustang GT models equipped with manual transmissions, was added so that customers can show off by creating a cloud of smoke in traffic. Ford clearly states that the electronic line-lock is intended for race track use, quoting the drivers’ need to prep their tires before pulling a quarter mile run. On the other hand, the automaker says that "racing the 2015 Mustang will void warranty," a statement that leaves up puzzled to say the least, and is in stark contrast to Chevy’s stance on the Z/28’s warranty and racing .

Ford also claims its electronic line-lock is an industry-first feature, but we know this isn’t entirely true, as BMW offers something similar — it’s called "smokey burnout" — on the new M3 and M4 models.

All told, this electronic burnout trick will be hard to swallow by muscle car purists, but we bet it will find a lot of fans among users that are looking for these kind of technologically advanced features. Now everyone can do a burnout without having to practice or worry about anything...

The 50th anniversary of the Ford Mustang hasn’t gone unnoticed by the rest of the industry, including the muscle car ’s fiercest rival, the Chevrolet Camaro . In a move that’s a nod of respect to the rivalry, the Camaro — of all cars — has just wished the Mustang a happy 50 years.

If you’re thinking that this move is merely a publicity ploy by Chevrolet , there’s a good chance that you’re right. Partly, at least. But you can’t deny that there’s also some graciousness behind the act; after all, Chevrolet did recognize the Mustang as the original pony car and that the "healthy competition" between the two Camaro and the Mustang has benefited both models tremendously. I take mild issue with Chevy’s claim of the Mustang as the "original" pony car, as the the Barracuda actually predated the Mustang by a few weeks making it the actual original pony car. But it is commonly accepted that the `Stang receives this title, so I am outnumbered.

“For five decades, the Camaro and the Mustang have been battling it out in every possible setting,” GM’s Executive Vice President of Global Product Development Mark Reuss said in a statement. “These two cars have been striving to beat each other on the track, on the drag strip and on the streets. That competition is a big part of why both cars are so amazing, and so popular, today.”

There’s a whole lot of truth to that and the respect between both models is evident by this respectful gesture by the Camaro.

Rumors about a 50th anniversary 2015 Ford Mustang coming to the New York Auto Show have been flying around for quite some time now, but the Blue Oval manufacturer remaining hush on the matter. Now the 50th anniversary edition Mustang became reality, as Ford took the wraps off the 2015 Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition ahead of the aforementioned event.

Based on the brand-new 2015 Mustang GT that was unveiled last December around the world, the special edition 50 Years model will see only 1,964 examples — obviously a reference to the Mustang’s first year on the market — and fitted with numerous unique features inside and out.

Production of the 50 Year Limited Edition car will begin in mid-August, and although Ford has yet to announce when customers will be able to order one, we suggest you have them checks ready next month.

But before you start making any plans, let’s have a closer look at the anniversary Mustang and see what it has to offer compared to the regular pony.

A few weeks ago we reported that Ford was planning a daring reenactment of the 1964 Ford Mustang convertible launch atop the Empire State Building’s 86th floor observation deck. With only a few hours left before the big 50th anniversary celebration begins, Ford lets loose the details on how it’s pulling off the stunt.

Just like in 1964, the 2015 Mustang convertible has gone under the knife, getting sliced up into pieces in order to fit within the building’s elevators. Though the first Mustang was only sectioned into three pieces, the 2015 pony car had to be sliced into six. Each section is welded to a steel tube subframe that bolts together with the other sections, holding together the entire car. Even the suspension components are held in place by the steel tubing.

Despite the car’s divided ascension of the skyscraper, the car will look showroom fresh as it sits on the observation deck for 54 hours, while the New York Auto Show happens 1,454 feet below.

This isn’t the 2015 Mustang Convertible’s first public appearance, but it certainly is grander than the lackadaisical attention it was given when it was first seen along side the Mustang coupe when it debuted December 5th.
