Saleen 435S based on the Ford Mustang

Saleen 435S based on the Ford Mustang

The American tuning house known for pumping out high performance Fords has just unveiled the new Saleen 435S, based on the new 2010 Ford Mustang, it will be the first vehicle launched under the aftermarket automaker’s new ownership.

The Saleen 435S rides 1.5 inches lower to the ground than a stock Mustang GT and is powered by the same 4.6 Liter, 3 valve, SOHC V8 engine, with the addition of a Saleen Series VI twin screw supercharger and two stage intercooler to bring the intake charge down to a manageable temperature. The blower brings the car’s total output up to 435 HP and 425 lb-ft of torque.

The exterior of the Saleen benefits from an understated blacked out trim panel between the taillights with “Saleen” written in raised lettering, a mesh cover for the fog lights in the grill and graphic elements placed low on each side of the vehicle. Saleen is offering the 435S with a set of 18 inch 5 spoke alloy wheels with 19 and 20 inch rims available as an option. Finishing off the Saleen Mustang transformation are the “435S” lettered on each side of the hood of the pony car’s power dome.

2010 SMS 460/460X Mustang

2010 SMS 460/460X Mustang

After working their magic on the modern Mopar muscle with the 570 Challenger and the 570X Challenger from Steve Saleen’s SMS Supercars Limited lineup of vehicles. The American tuners turned their attention to a new modern muscle car, the 2010 Ford Mustang. Like for the Challenger, SMS Limited will launch two versions of the blue oval’s pony car, first a 460 and then a 460X version to follow later on this year.

The 460 Mustang will feature a few dress up items like a blacked out grille with horizontal bars featuring the SMS logo, a more aggressive front fascia, dual vented hood, signature series side skirts, signature series rear bumper, signature series integrated side splitters, signature series red butterfly induction hood and high down force rear wing.

Under the hood SMS Limited will use a supercharged version of the 4.6 Liter V8 that is found in the production model. The engines will be tuned to deliver either 470 HP or as much as 655 HP. The 460 version will be able to sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in only 4.5 seconds, while the more extreme 460X hits the mark in just 4 seconds.

Press release after the jump.

2009 Ford Mustang AV-X10 Dearborn Doll with Gallery

Ford Mustang AV-X10 Dearborn Doll with Gallery

Just a few days ago we brought you the first details about a special edition Ford Mustang created for the Experimental Aircraft Association’s “Gathering of Eagles.” Today Ford has made the official announcement: the AV-X10 "Dearborn Doll" will be built as a single unit that will be be auctioned off during the Experimental Aircraft Association’s (EAA) 2009 AirVenture Oshkosh.

The AV-X10 is based on a glass roof 2010 Mustang GT and adds a few parts from the Ford Racing Catalog: Supercharger, Handling Pack, tuned exhaust and exhaust tips that create a ground pounding 550 HP from the aluminum block 4.6 Liter 24 valve V8. The special racing Handling Pack optimizes the performance experience with thicker sway bars and stiffer shocks and springs that brings the chassis a full inch closer to the ground.

The exterior of the car is painted with custom Satin Silver paint with a yellow nose cone and rear wing along with the AVX’s call letters on the hind quarters. The modified Mustang rides on 19 inch Shelby GT500 wheels covered in liquid silver with yellow propeller tips and white gloss accents.

AV-X10 Dearborn Doll Ford Mustang

AV-X10 Dearborn Doll Ford Mustang

The American automaker Ford is preparing a special edition Mustang for the Experimental Aircraft Association’s “Gathering of Eagles.” The unique pony car will be known as the AV-X10 “Dearborn Doll” and will be auctioned off during the 2009 EAA Air Venture Oshkosh fly-in, a gathering of aviation enthusiasts from around the U.S. which will take place this July 27th thru August 2nd.

The AV-X10 "Dearborn Doll" started out life as a 2010 Mustang GT with the canopy inspired acrylic Glassroof option. The pint scheme is a tribute to WWII fighters made up of a custom Satin Silver base coat complete with a yellow nose cone and white stripe on the tail that goes along with this road going experimental aircraft’s “AV-X10” call letters.

However the beauty of the AV-X10 goes further than the sheet metal, under the hood of this special edition Mustang GT is the factory 4.6 Liter V8 that you would expect to find, except that thanks to the Ford Racing supercharger kit and FR500S performance exhaust this pony car now has the power of 550 raging galloping horses. Making the drive a bit more enjoyable is a short throw shifter inside the cabin, while a Ford Racing derived handling package made up of new dampers, a set of lowering springs and a new anti-roll bar all work together to keep this Mustang headed in the right direction.

2010 Mustang GT destroyed by teenagers

2010 Mustang GT destroyed by teenagers

Even if the Ford Mustang GT has been considered to be one of the safest cars on the market, that doesn’t mean that the blue oval’s pony car is immune to unfortunate incidents and didn’t help too much in this case, because when you are 19 years old and someone hands you the keys to a brand new red 2010 Mustang GT, safety is almost certainly the last thing on your mind.

That is exactly what happened at a Ford dealership when the teenage occupant of this 2010 Mustang GT grabbed the keys to go for a test drive. Shortly after leaving the lot, the driver was involved in a serious accident in the brand new Mustang that ended up ejecting one of the occupants from the vehicle. There were a total of three teenagers in the car at the time of the incident and none of them were wearing seat belts. Luckily all of them survived the crash. However, we cannot say the same about the car.

Video: Blind man gets behind the wheel of a 2010 Ford Mustang

The indomitable power of the human spirit can accomplish great things. The key is to know that despite your limitations, there is nobody stopping from you achieving your dream.

Take Roger Keeney for example. 20 years ago, this man lost his ability to see his surroundings, but despite going blind, Keeney has never let his disability get the best of him. It only seemed fitting that Ford – as part of their ‘Mustang P.O.V.’ campaign – gives Keeney the opportunity to do something he hasn’t done for 20 years: drive a car. By the way, it’s not just any car that Ford let Keeney drive. It was a 2010 Ford Mustang convertible.

With four-time world Trans-Am champion Tommy Kendall by his side, Keeney let the Mustang rip along the vast expanse of the desert, even taking the time to do a few drifts here and there. It’s a remarkable story for someone who hasn’t seen the light of day for two decades. But then again, Roger Keeney is blind, but his spirit and will to live is as strong as ever.

Chevrolet’s 2010 Camaro sits atop the Pony Car Sales Charts

1.

Chevrolet’s 2010 Camaro is on top of the pony car sales charts outpacing Ford’s reworked Mustang and the last of the modern day muscle cars, the Dodge Challenger is trailing far behind. It appears that all the hype General Motors has been generating about the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro is paying off, just last June the General sold 9,320 bowties with 10,000 more sales to fill; while the blue oval only moved 7,632 Mustangs and the Pentastar brand has only managed to find homes for 1,369 Challengers.

Ford offers more variety with the Mustang, but it looks like the General is offering what the people want with only two models. The RS being a 300 HP V6 that gets 29 MPG on the highway and the SS featuring the familiar small block V8 that Chevrolet fans have come to adore since the 1950. This is the same 6.2 Liter LS3 power plant that can be found under the forward opening hood of the Corvette.

While Ford offers a variety of power packages led by the Shelby GT500 that are available as both convertibles and hard tops, there is even an optional plexiglass roof panel. Perhaps by flooding the market with too many variations of the Mustang the American automaker has overwhelmed consumers. Perhaps Chevrolet has been able to sell more units by offering a less complicated buying experience and producing a much more desirable pony car. Either way this is only the beginning of the second chapter of the classic American rivalry, it looks like the muscle car days are making a comeback.

2011 Ford Mustang spied

2011 Ford Mustang spied

What we can only assume to be a 2011 Ford Mustang power train mule has been spotted testing in southern California. Despite the rear end that looks like the 2005 model, the Mustang was wearing a front end from a 2010 car. Those fenders and hood also featured plenty of ventilation openings that led us to believe that this pony car is powered by something special.

It is unknown whether this is the new 5.0 Liter Coyote V8 or some other sort of Shelby or modern day BOSS muscle car. One thing is for certain, the rumble that was coming from this test car’s tailpipes was apparently unlike anything that came out of a recent Mustang. The rumble was far deeper and much louder than any current Mustang GT. Either way, this blue oval badged performance machine will be an injection of excitement for both pony car and muscle car fans around the world.

With the domestic competition coming out with models like the Dodge Challenger SRT-8 and Chevrolet Camaro Z28, Ford is in desperate need of filling the gap between their base V8 and the ultra exotic Shelby GT500 in order to sell a high output pony car that consumers can actually afford.

2010 Steeda Sport Edition Mustang

2010 Steeda Sport Edition Mustang

The pony car wranglers at Steeda are preparing for the next stampede of blue oval enthusiasts looking to modify their 2010 Ford Mustang GTs with one of the aftermarket manufacturer’s immediate injection of power and agility for the V8 powered muscle car.

3.

Steeda’s plan is to transform the vehicle with a few low key exterior touches, some proven performance parts and a very serious amount of attention paid to the suspension. There is an option wide black stripe on the hood and the company’s signature “S” side stripes. A few extra horsepower are freed up by the high flow air filter and parasitic drag reducing under drive pulleys.

Everyone knows that in order to go fast you need to be able to carry speed through a turn. So Steeda didn’t skimp on the hardware. Aside from the standard Steeda Sport Springs, the American tuner goes so far as to use a set of Steeda Billet Lower Control Arms. Now that is a racing part. There’s no sense in going fast if you don’t look good soing it, so the Mustung sits on Steeda Spyder Wheels dipped in chrome and sized 20x9.9 inches up front and 20x11 inches in the rear. Just like an Olympic sprinter, the Steeda Mustang needs high performance rubber under their feet, so sparing no expense the company includes a set of Nitto NT05 High Performance Tires. All this can be your for only $8995, not a bad price to pay for a few seconds at the track.

2010 Ford Glass Roof Mustang

Ford Glass Roof Mustang

Ford gearing up for summer! The American automaker has revealed a few details about the 2010 Mustang Glass Roof and Mustang GT Convertible. Both models are now on sale.

The Glass Roof is being available on both V-6 model and the GT at a price of $1,995. The 2010 Ford Glass Roof Mustang offers consumers convertible-like driving without the need for sunscreen, because its factory-installed panoramic glass roof filters 90% of the sun’s heat-generating infrared (IR) rays and 96% of burn-causing ultraviolet (UV) rays.

Press release after the jump.
