1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 by RK Motors

We got pretty excited when we saw Ford has brought back the Boss 302 name, but the car has been originally produced in 1969 and 1970. And as the classic version usually is much more appreciated than the current version, RK Motors has brought to our attention a tuning kit based on a 1970 Boss 302. The car went through a full restoration process and now can be yours for $89,900.

If you remember a few months ago RK Motors has unveiled a similar treatment for a 1967 Shelby Supercharged GT500, so we guess the tuner really likes classic cars. For the 1970 Boss 302 kept its completely original, rust-free body panels everywhere except its front fenders. The car is painted in a very cool Grabber Blue paint combined with a trademark flat black rear decklid and spoiler and of course a set of Boss side stripes. The car sits on a new set of 15" chrome Magnum 500 wheels.

Under the hood the tuner has placed a completely rebuilt 302 V8 that delivers a total of 290 HP combined with a 4-speed gearbox. The engine treatment includes a heavy duty block design, original, large port, large valve, free flowing Cleveland heads, a race prepped crank, a solid lifter cam, heavy duty connecting rods, forged pistons and an aluminum intake.

Hit the jump for a video of the car.

2011 Ford Mustang SPX by Galpin Auto Sports

Fans of the Ford Mustang itching to get their hands on the latest special edition version of the muscle car will be delighted to know that Galpin Auto Sports, together with SPX Corporation, is building one exclusively for the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona in January.

The proceeds of the sale will benefit the St. Jude Children’s Hospital so at the very least, your bids will go to a very worthy cause. But what should really get you going about this special edition Mustang is the number of improvements Galpin did to turn it into an even more powerful piece of muscle.

Inspired by the legendary Mustang Boss 429, this particular Mustang will carry a 5.0-liter V8 engine that has been taken to a whole new level thanks to upgrades that include a Ford Racing supercharger, Comp Cams camshafts, and a Bassani exhaust system. All that has taken the output of the Galpin Mustang to a staggering 700 horsepower.

On top of the massive engine upgrade, the Galpin Mustang will also carry aesthetic improvements, including a Candy Apple Red Pearl PPG paint scheme, a Roush billet aluminum grille, the original 1969 Boss 429 hood, a Boss 302 Laguna Seca rear spoiler, and a set of 21" and 22" Forgiato wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tires.

The car is interesting enough on its own merit to have active bidders when it goes under the hammer at Barrett-Jackson, but if you add that all your bids will end up being for a good cause, then you should have no problem shooting for the moon when bidding.

UPDATE 10/20/11: We’ve just learned that the 700-horsepower Mustang by Galpin Auto Sports will be making its world debut at the 2011 SEMA Auto Show ahead of its auction date at Barrett-Jackson next January. Be sure to check out this completely modded Mustang before a lucky bidder drives home with it next year.

UPDATE 12/29/11: After being announced as a prototype back in August, the Mustang SPX is finally ready and waiting for its new customer. For those interested, this car will be available at the Barrett-Jackson auction in January 2011. All proceeds will go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital: "Cancer affects so many families across America and we’re very excited at the opportunity to utilize our talents to help raise money to fight this terrible disease," said GAS President Beau Boeckmann. "We’re honored SPX chose us as the shop to build this vehicle. Once completed, this car has tremendous potential to raise a lot of money for an organization that benefits a great cause."

Video: A quick way to destroy your Ford Mustang V6

Idiocy comes in many shapes and forms, some more ridiculous than others. For the owner of this Ford Mustang V6, a clear disregard of the limits of your muscle car certainly counts as an act of plain lunacy.

Determined to show-off his new Mustang V6, the driver decided to bring his muscle car into an isolated road to stretch its proverbial legs. What started as a leisurely joy ride slowly turned into a pretty ill-advised attempt at showing off.

Not content with the Mustang V6’s electronically limited top speed of 115 mph, the driver decided to extract a little more juice from his muscle car, flooring the car to well over 140 mph - it would have been fine if he had the 5.0-liter V8 Mustang - which is pretty much all the way north of what the car is capable.

The result, as the last few seconds of the video will show you, is what happens when common sense flies right out the window. Not only did the driver completely destroy the Mustang’s drive shaft - it ripped into the floor pan! - but he also managed to break the transmission and severely damage the muffler AND the exhaust system.

There’s a reason why the Mustang V6 has a speed limiter. This dude, apparently, didn’t get the memo and his car paid a pretty steep price for his utter idiocy.

Check out the entire debacle in the video above!

1967 Ford Mustang Convertible Body Shell

Ford tossed out a bone at the 2011 SEMA Auto Show in the form of a body shell for the 1965 Mustang Convertible, undoubtedly gauging interest for such a product. Turns out, the response was just what Ford wanted. Capitalizing on the avid interest, Ford has revealed yet another body shell for their favored muscle car, but this time, it’s for the 1967 Mustang Convertible. The price for the beginning part of someone’s 1967 Mustang rebuild project stands at $15,995.

The ’67 Convertible body shell was manufactured by Dynacorn International who worked not only to replicate the original ’67 convertible, but make it better. For this, the body panels were made from modern automotive-grade virgin steel and, for better strength, the panels were assembled using modern welding techniques. There are also newly engineered reinforcements in known stress areas to add strength and rigidity to the body.

"These days, the chances are fairly slim of finding a restorable, rust-free ’67 Mustang that has never been wrecked,’ said Dennis Mondrach, Ford Restoration Parts licensing manager. "As the value of classic Mustangs has increased over the years, garages, barns and scrapyards have been picked clean.’

2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302SX Concept

Joining the 2013 Cobra Jet in Ford Racing’s lineup is a one-off road racer concept named the Boss 302SX. The vehicle will be placed between the Boss 302S and the Boss 302R race car and features Ford’s new School Bus Yellow color. The 302SX is just a concept at this point, but when Ford Racing revealed it at the Performance Racing Industry Show in Orlando, Florida, they confirmed that they were "testing the water for feedback."

The 302SX will feature all of the changes previously seen on the 2013 Mustang Boss 302, as well as a lower front splitter and a massive adjustable rear spoiler. Another unique feature are the 1970-style graphics and the vented hood. The interior leans more towards racing with a Recaro HANS Pro Racer seat, an FIA spec 6-point roll cage, a fire suppression system, a data recording system, a 6-point racing harness, and a quick release steering wheel.

Powering Ford’s newest Mustang concept will is a 5.0 liter V8 engine that uses the same intake manifold found on the new Cobra Jet. The engine delivers a total of 500 HP and will be mated to a 6-speed transmission. Since the Mustang concept is not street legal, Ford has also provided it with a chassis prepared especially for the track. It features an adjustable coilover suspension, adjustable front and rear sway bars, tubular rear lower control arms, and adjustable caster/camber plates. The final element is a new set of 18" wheels combined with Brembo brakes at the front and rear.

Rare 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 for sale on eBay

Ford has has just recently brought the Boss name back to the Mustang line-up, but the original Boss Mustang was offered as limited edition between 1969 and 1970. A model like this in our day in age is certainly hard to find, especially since Ford only produced 858 units of this beauty, but an original 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 has turned up on eBay with a current bid of $185,000.

The 1969 Mustang Boss 429 has a large 429 cubic inch NASCAR motor producing 375 HP at 5200 RPM and 450 lb-ft of torque at 3400 rpm. Mated to a four-speed manual transmission, this engine sprints the Boss from 0 to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds on its way up to a top speed of 118 mph.

The specific 1969 Mustang Boss 429 being offered is painted in Wimbledon White and was purchased new in New York, then sent to Tasca Ford in Providence, Rhode Island. The car only has 2,219 original miles on the odometer and is completely original.

So far the reserve has not been met - even with the current $185,000 bid - but the age and relatively small number of units for this 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 makes this an opportunity of a lifetime for an avid Mustang aficionado.

2013 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet

It was only recently that we received all of the details for the 2012 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet, but spy photographers were still hungry for more so they were out on the hunt yet again. This time, they’ve caught the next generation Cobra Jet, due out in 2013, while it underwent some testing.

Anyone would have to be blind not to notice the giant ram air hood acting liked the flared nostril for the Mustang. Upon second look, one can see massive drag slicks stuffed in the rear wheel wells and special exhaust tips that spurt out their growl just behind the front wheel wells. From this, we can deduce that this new Cobra Jet will be a more powerful model with a sportier and more aggressive appearance.

For 2012, the Cobra Jet features a revised 5.4 liter DOHC supercharged aluminum block engine that delivers a total of 430 HP and is mated to a 3-speed C4 Auto Race transmission. It will be limited to 50 units, each priced at $91,900. We expect the 2013 model to come priced a bit higher, but with a similar limited run. We’ll get the official details as soon as they are released sometime in 2012.

UPDATE 12/02/2011: After seeing the entire 2013 Mustang line-up, Ford Racing parts has announced the official details on the 2013 Mustang Cobra Jet. 2013 Ford Mustang V6 Pony Package

ford mustang v6 pony package picture

With the Ford Mustang GT California Special Package catering to the much more powerful 5.0-liter V8 version of the Mustang line-up, it was important for Ford to have a separate package attached to the base Mustang model, the 3.6-liter V6 version.

This is where the V6 Pony Package comes in. As one of the two new special packages Ford has revealed for the 2013 line-up, the V6 Pony Package will see to it that your V6 Mustang gets some added exterior enhancements that would spice up the muscle car’s already smoldering looks. Ford has not released the full specs of details as far as what’s going to come with the V6 Pony Package, but we have been informed that some highlights will include a new chrome trim around the Mustang’s front grille and fog lights, a new rear spoiler, and a new set of 18" alloy wheels.

And just like the California Special Package for the Mustang GT, the V6 Pony Package will most likely be an exclusive aesthetic enhancement program, leaving the Mustang’s 3.6-liter V6 engine untouched.

That shouldn’t be all that problematic, especially if you know what you’re going to get with the V6 Pony Package. Besides, it’s not like the Mustang is a slouch without any engine modifications. It still packs an impressive 305 horsepower out of that V6 engine!

2012 Ford Mustang GT Velocity Edition

German tuning company, Velocity, has always been a fan of American muscle cars and they’ve made quite a reputation as one of the up-and-coming tuners on the other side of the pond. At the 2011 Essen Motor Show, Velocity will be on hand to live up to these expectations with their latest tuning project, one that involves Ford’s very own Mustang GT.

Dubbed the Velocity Edition, this returned Mustang has been given a pretty unique and distinctive individualization program that features a plethora of customizations. The first thing you’ll notice is the new vented hood, as well as a new trunk lid that appears to have been made using high-quality carbon. Other prominent additions on the Mustang GT include new KW coilovers that allow for precise setting of the ride height and adjustable for rebound and compression, a new set of 22" Giovanni ’Martuni’ wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tires, and finally, a new and bigger set of brake discs to ensure shorter braking distances for the American muscle car.

At the heart of Velocity’s program for the Mustang is the engine modification, significantly bumping up the output of the muscle car. By installing a new Roush compressor unit, Velocity was able to drive up the output of the car’s 5.0-liter V8 engine from 412 horsepower all the way up to 519 horsepower. On top of that, the tuning company also installed a new muffler unit, a new shifter lever, and an improved digital gear display.

Taking everything into consideration, the Mustang GT Velocity Edition comes at a price tag of €74,999, which is around $100,900 based on current exchange rates.
