Ford Racing announced today the list of updates for the 2014 Mustang Cobra Jet that will be used in competitions like NHRA Stock and Super Stock racing. Changes for the 2014 model year include two new exterior colors: Gotta Have-it Green and a Cobra Jet-exclusive flat black, an all-new 3-speed race transmission with SFI approved housing and a parachute mount needed when driving up to speeds above 150 mph.

As usual, the 2014 Mustang Cobra Jet will be for off-road use only and will be powered by a 5.4 liter DOHC supercharged aluminum block engine that delivers a total of 430 horsepower.

The model will also feature roll-cage optimized for rigidity and safety, Recaro race seats, suspensions from Ford Racing and an electric power steering.

The 2014 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet will be priced at $97,990 plus optional paint and graphics. The model will once again be limited to only 50 units.


Remember the days when the V-6 model of various performance vehicles –the Mustang and Camaro, for example – were often seen as sub-standard models with laughable performance numbers? Well, these days these base-level V-6 models push well over 30 horsepower, allowing them to perform rather effectively.

Roush Performance has just announced its tuning program for the 2014 Mustang lineup V6, dubbed the “RS V6.” Unfortunately, two of the stages do not offer any performance upgrades, but the top levels do push the V-6 engine to its limits.

The entry-level kit, dubbed the Stage 1, includes an aero body kit, a set of wheels and interior upgrades, but no engine mods. Stage 2 upgrades the Stage 1 and adds a new racetrack-inspired suspension that improves the car’s behavior in the twist.

The good stuff arrives with the Stage 3 kit, which offers a supercharger that increases the engine’s power up to 575 horsepower and 505 pound-feet of torque.

The most powerful upgrade it the "Aluminator" engine, which is offered in two different phases. In Phase 2, the engine’s output is listed at 625 horsepower and Phase 3 hits a monstrous 675 horsepower.

Last week it was rumored that the next-generation Ford Mustang will indeed receive a four-cylinder engine, but only the European customers are going to enjoy it. Things have changed since then, as it looks like the guys over Road and Track have a different story.

According to the magazine, the American market is going to receive the 2.3-liter turbo four-cylinder engine, but not in the base version. Ford is already offering such an engine on models like Fusion and Explorer, so why not also offer it in the Mustang as well? The four-cylinder EcoBoost is rumored to deliver over 300 horsepower, making it an improvement over the base 3.7-liter V-6 that delivers a total of 305 horsepower.

It is also speculated that the 2015 Mustang will be offered with a paddle-shift automatic transmission too.

However, it looks like things are just getting ramped up and we expect to learn more about the next Mustang in the upcoming weeks. Stay tuned!

The sixth-generation Ford Mustang is already under development, but all we know up to this point is simple speculations. For a long time, we have talked about rumors that the 2015 Mustang will come with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine for the first time since the 1986 Ford Mustang SVO.

At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Edmunds spoke with Ford insiders who let them know that a boosted four banger will be part of the lineup, but only for the European market.

According to the report, this four-cylinder gasoline engine will be offered as a low-emissions alternative to the V8 engine currently offered in the Mustang. The V-8 engine is highly-taxable in Europe, so the four-cylinder engine will help to boost sales.

The engine will be based on the current turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine featured in the 2013 Ford Focus ST. For the Mustang, the displacement will be increased to 2.3 liters through extending the stroke, widening the bore or maybe both. The output will be increased to about 300 horsepower up from the current 250 horsepower. It is expected to keep the fuel consumption at the current 23 mpg in city driving and 32 mpg on the highway.

These are, of course, unconfirmed rumors but they do come from a very reliable source. We’ll keep an eye out for some confirmation from Ford.

We all fancy ourselves to get involved in some wild car chase with a car as powerful as a Ford Mustang . The cars crashing into everything; fruits flying everywhere; and yes, the occasional smashing of a water hydrant that explodes with a jet of water.

Normally, we’d probably go to jail, or worse, die, if we dared pull off such a stunt. But that doesn’t mean some people can’t recreate a car chase scene like that with the help of some scaled-down Mustangs.

The fine folks of FinalCutKing did just that, and boy, did they do a terrific job at it. Two souped-up, albeit R/C-oriented Mustangs were the stars of the 90-second chase, giving new meaning to the phrase running roughshod through a city. In this case, the "city" is made up of cardboard, hot glue, and spray paint.

Even with the makeshift location, the car chase itself, which also has a cameo appearance by a military chopper, together with the fantastic editing and sound mixing, ended up being pretty remarkable.

One of the finest we’ve seen in its size, to say the least.

We’re sure you’re tired of all the comparisons between the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang , but we have to admit this one is a little bit different. In the latest episode of “Head 2 head,” the guys over Motor Trend have put to test two track-bred versions of these long time enemies: the Camaro SS 1LE and a Ford Mustang GT Track Pack.

Of course, this is not the first time these two cars have been pit against each other, but this one is one of the most impressive we have ever seen. Behind the wheel, you will see Randy Pobst, who will put the two pony cars on the drag strip and the curviest track he could think of, Streets of Willow.

Watch the video and you will see everything you have ever dreamt about: drag races, hot laps and burnouts. Ford lovers, you may want to turn away for this one.

A standard Ford Mustang Boss 302 comes from factory with a 5.0-liter V-8 engine that delivers a total of 440 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. Those are very impressive numbers for a muscle car, but not good for a car enthusiast like Ricky Wilson who wishes his car to deliver much more than that.

As a result he took his standard Boss 302 and took it to Millersville, Maryland-based tuner Justin Performance Center (JPC). The tuner updated the car to an amazing 1,200 rear-wheel horsepower. For this JPC installed a forged short block, 105-pound injectors, JPC fuel system using E85 fuel and a custom 76 mm Precision turbo kit.

Despite these impressive changes made under the hood, this Mustang Boss 302 keeps the standard close-ratio six-speed manual transmission, helping to keep the cost of the build minimal. This also goes to show just how awesome that transmission really is.

At the 2011 SEMA Show, Bodie Stroud unveiled a bad-ass 494-cubic-inch-powered 1969 Mustang . Oh, and this is no normal 494 either, but we’ll get to that later. One year later the folks from Unionhz TV, under the direction of Julian King, have created an awesome called "The Real Thing" that presents the story behind this amazing project.

With his project, Bodie Stroud wanted to re-imagine a classic Mustang powered by an extremely rare and powerful engine built specifically for legendary racer Mario Andretti’s 1969 Can Am series race car. This all-aluminum 494-cubic-inch V-8 engine was so powerful that Ford never even attempted to transfer it to its road-going cars.

This movie follows all the steps required to develop this project, starting from the rendering phase all the way through its initial test drive and to its unveiling at the 2011 SEMA. Sit back, enjoy and you will learn about the hard work needed to develop such an amazing muscle car.

The 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Fastback represents the essence of the Ford Mustang, but finding one in good conditions after more than 40 years can get pretty difficult.

This is where the custom-car builder Retrobuilt comes into picture. Retrobuilt took a modern Mustang — a 2013 GT version in this instance — and transformed it so it looks the part of a 1969 Mach 1 Fastback without the hustle and bustle to find one, restore it and maintain it. The car is built on an S197 chassis and is powered by a 5.0-liter V-8 engine with an output of 420 ponies.

The work of getting a new car to look like a 40-year-old one is, of course, pretty difficult and the team behind the project required hours of work. Almost everything in the car has been changed, ranging from minor elements — door handles and other little trim pieces – up to the major changes made under the hood. The resulting creation, however, is worth all of the work. This 1969 Retrobuilt Mustang is faster than the original model to boot, as it goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds — the true 1969 model did the same sprint in 5.7 seconds.

The lucky guys over AutoBlog were invited by the Retrobuilt team to test its latest project and it looks like they were impressed!

Apparently touted as the ’the last hurrah before the major overhaul in 2015, the 2014 Ford Mustang is the last chance for customers who are fans of the current, retro inspired design to snag one up before the Evos-inspired 2015 Ford Mustang is announced.

For the new ’Stang, Ford will axed minor features such as the cheap-looking lower-body tape stripe and the rear deck spoiler. Ford will announce two new packages that customers can choose to personalize their vehicle even further. One package is known as the Black Appearance Package and it includes black outside mirror skull caps, a black deck lid spoiler, quarter window louvers and 18-inch black aluminum wheels. The other package, known internally as the FP8, includes the features of the first package in addition to larger 19-inch black aluminum rims. People opting for this exterior package can expect the car to look more aggressive and visceral.

In the performance department, the engine lineup remains unchanged. The 2014 Mustang will be powered by a 3.7-liter V-6, a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V-8 for the GT or a supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 for the range-topping Shelby GT500.

As of now, no changes to the suspension systems and transmission system have been announced or leaked. So, expect the same 5-speed automatic or, the favorite, 6-speed manual to stay.

Prices for the 2014 Ford Mustang start at $22,995 for the V6 Coupe, $26,995 for the V6 Premium Coupe, $31,545 for the GT Coupe, $35,545 for the GT Premium Coupe, $55,445 for the GT500 820A Coupe and $58,940 for the GT500 821A Coupe. From the figures, we can notice that the V-8 models are $450 pricier. Also, Ford has dropped the $1,500 rebate on V-6 and GT models. Customers opting for the new Black Appearance Package will have to shell out an extra $995, which is kind-of worth it judging by the contents of the package. Notice the lack of the Boss 302 Mustang price? Yeah, we did too... Ford stayed true to its word by eliminating it after just two years.

For now, this is all the information we have, but we anticipate seeing the veil lifted from the 2014 Mustang in early 2013. We’ll pass on more info once it becomes available.
