Since it first hit the market, the Ford->ke31 Mustang has been one of the “go-to” vehicles for great movie cars. From Bullitt all the way to this year’s Need for Speed movie, this pony is the king of the silver screen. One of the most memorable Mustangs->ke428 to entrance theater goers was Eleanor in the 2000 remake of Gone in 60 Seconds. The Eleanor from the film was a 1967 Shelby Mustang GT 500, but many modern remakes of that classic machine now roam the road. If you want a modern “Eleanor” GT500, I know just the place to get one; RK Motors in Charlotte, North Carolina.

This particular Mustang is a 2007 model with a host of visual and performance upgrades. From the supercharged V-8 dumping almost 500 horsepower towards those rear wheels to the shimmer of that Satin Silver paint, this is one machine you don’t want to miss.

Exterior

Aside from the special silver paint, this Eleanor has plenty of extra visual goodies to let everyone know how special it really is. There is a full body kit front to back, and it adds an aggressive touch that isn’t over-the-top. The rear of the car has an old-school duck-tail spoiler that perfectly molds with the overall design. There is not much else around back, as this Mustang has moved its exhaust tips to the side of the car. The dual oval exhausts exit just fore of the rear wheels.

For my personal tastes, the side window louvers and blacked-out headlights are bit to Pep-Boys, but to each his own.

Apart from my minor gripes, there are few fifth-gen Mustangs that look better than this.

Interior

Inside this Eleanor is business as usual for Mustang fans and owners. Very little of the interior has been changed or altered. You get standard Mustang buckets wrapped in black leather. The dash and steering wheel accents are silver to match the exterior paint. The best part of the interior is the white cue-ball Hurst shifter.

The pedals are Saleen units, there are Mustang-branded kick plates on the sills and the stereo has been replaced with a Clarion touchscreen unit.

Drivetrain

The real news about this Mustang hides under the hood. The standard 4.6-liter V-8 was not exactly a fire-breather, so more horsepower was priority No. 1. Open the hood and the first thing you will be staring at is a Saleen VI supercharger bolted to a Forged block from Ford Racing. Helping to keep that engine fed with fuel and air is a cold-air intake and a twin, 65 mm GT500 throttle body.

According to RK Motors, the car has turned out 482 horsepower and 485 pound-feet at the dyno -- 182 horsepower and 165 pound-feet more than the 4.6-liter in the 2007 Mustang GT. Sadly the transmission only has five forward gears, but it still has three pedals so I can forgive this one small misstep.

Like most every Mustang ever, this machine makes use of a solid rear axle; gearing has been set at 3.55.

Prices

This rig comes in at a relatively affordable $44,900, plus it has fewer than 14,000 miles on its ticker.

Competition

Competition for a used custom Mustang isn't exactly the easiest thing to really quantify, but if I was staring at $45k in my pocket and wanted a used rocket, here is what I would look at.

C6 Corvette

With a super-low curb weight, and 400-plus horsepower, the C6 Corvette is a great alternative to this 'Stang. Now that the new C7 is out, prices for the older cars are falling. You can find a nice C6 with some of the more desirable factory extras for around $40k. It is still far too difficult to find a manual transmission model though.

Conclusion

It is used, and it is based on a car that is now two-generations old, but with close to 500 horsepower, incredible looks and a bit of movie-star cache, it is hard to fault this Mustang. When you factor in the price of just $45,000 it's practically a bargain.
