New technology features available on the 2010 Mustang include: Vehicle Health Report (VHR): SYNC gathers relevant information from the major vehicle control modules and packages diagnostic data into a usable format in a matter of minutes. That data packet is sent to Ford via an 800-number automatically dialed using the customer’s paired and operable mobile phone. SIRIUS Travel Link™, an industry-leading technology that, when combined with the voice-activated navigation system will provide users with real-time traffic data with accident and incident information, coast-to-coast weather data including current conditions and five-day forecasts, and fuel price information for over 120,000 gas stations. Travel Link also offers sports scores and schedules and a listing of more than 4,500 movie theaters with movie times, theater addresses, movie synopses and more. Ambient Lighting System with MyColor™ allows drivers to customize the interior lighting of the vehicle to suit their mood. The enhanced MyColor system features seven base colors – ice blue, purple, blue, orange, red, white and green. Customers also can create 125 custom colors by mixing the red-green-blue palette. The driver can individually set the instrument cluster gauge background, instrument cluster “halo” lighting and the ambient lights in the front and rear footwells, cup holders, doors and the “M U S T A N G” logo in the aluminum door sills to different colors, or easily coordinate them all to the same custom color. Additional refinements include a new center console mounted trunk release; lockable stowage in the center floor console; covered cup holders; steering mounted audio controls; dual electronic climate control; outside temperature sensing; and remote keyless entry integrated into the key. Class-leading one-touch up and down windows continue as well. ---- InteriorThe 2010 Mustang introduces a modern interior – rich in the all-American heritage launched nearly a half-century ago and executed in a way on par with the most premium sports cars available today. Muscle Tension Creates Dramatic ShapesThe 2010 Mustang’s interior design is dramatically shaped with tensioned surfaces and sculptured forms that use light and shadow to create dimension, and evoke power and speed. Evolve the Mustang BloodlineMustang’s unrivaled, 45-year heritage provided a strong foundation on which to build the next chapter in the Mustang story. Gelardi and team first identified several core DNA elements, such as the “double-brow” instrument panel, flow-through console and conical lens gauges. Then countless hours were spent evolving and executing those elements in a modern form language relevant to 2010 and beyond. “There is definite Mustang DNA in the 2010 air register design,” said Mustang Design Manager Gary Morales. “The combination of circular and rectangular register shapes is well-represented in our family tree, but the forms are modern and inspired by the exhaust outlets drilled into the aluminum. Each gauge is fully encircled with chrome rings inset precisely into the IP to achieve a well-crafted appearance.” Unsurpassed Fit and FinishMorales and team agreed that flawless execution was the key element of the interior design. Morales defined execution as superior craftsmanship, world-class quality and premium materials. He said the very modern Mustang was designed with old-fashioned hard work. Further evidence is the design of the traction control and trunk release buttons. Instead of just a generic car symbol, the graphics were designed to show an actual 2010 Mustang. Mustang offers significant technology upgradesThe 2010 Mustang features SYNC, the award-winning, in-car communications and entertainment platform, developed jointly by Ford and Microsoft. It allows users to control most MP3 players and Bluethooth-enabled mobile phones hands-free voice commands. SIRIUS® satellite radio and next-generation navigation are available along with dual-zone temperature controls. Mustang owners are well known for personalizing their cars, and the MyColor system provides a unique level of customization. MyColor features a “welcome sequence,” greeting the driver with a sweep of the cluster needles, as well as staged halo and cluster lighting. Customers can create more than 125 background colors by mixing the red-green-blue palette. ---- Improvments on the 2010 modelThanks to Ford’s extensive racing and special program initiatives, customers can look forward to a nimbler, more-responsive Ford Mustang. Standard on all models is a three-link rear suspension with a panhard bar. Tires are increased by an inch across the Mustang line, with 17-inch tires standard on the V-6 and 18-inch tires standard on the V-8. A 19-inch Pirelli Summer tire is late available as an option for those seeking higher performance. Options include:GT Track Package I (manual only) ---- Modern lookMuscle goes modern for 2010 as the Ford Mustang – America’s favorite muscle car for 45 years straight – hits the streets with a new exterior design; new world-class interior featuring well-crafted materials and updated technology; and a V-8 with even more horsepower and an even throatier signature Mustang exhaust sound. “More than 9 million customers have made Mustang one of the world’s most beloved automotive and cultural icons,” said Mark Fields, Ford’s president of The Americas. “Making sure this modern legend lives up to their expectations has been a driving force for the team, which went to great lengths – gathering customer input everywhere from race tracks to Main Streets in cities throughout the U.S. – working to create the best Mustang ever.” “The best Mustangs have always been the ones that connect young America with the spirit of the times – and the 2010 does exactly that,” said J Mays, Ford’s group vice president of Design. “The new Mustang is close to the magnetic center of the original, fully loaded with the swagger you’d expect, but with modern refinement and attention to detail like you’ve never seen in a muscle car.” The exterior sheet metal, except for the fast-back roofline, is all new for 2010. At the front, the new headlamps, lower fascias, fenders and grille are capped by a powerdome hood that adds to the muscular appearance while functionally allowing for enhanced air cooling of the engine. The best of new, heritageCleverly combining modern technology with Mustang heritage is a signature of the 2010 model, in terms of both design and engineering. “All of the Bullitt elements are the base foundation of the GT,” said Randle, noting engine and chassis improvements. “We also applied some improvements gained from Mustang racing. We’re learning constantly and always giving that to the customer on the base car.” “It’s an upgrade to the most-robust, most-accessorized engine in the marketplace today,” Randle added. “No one has the reliability, no one has the upgraded options. This is a fantastic engine, proven on the race track, the drag strip and on the highway.” Interior leads in design, materials, content and comfortLike the exterior, the interior design is all new with world-class materials and execution. “That’s the difference between good enough and exceptional,” said Gary Morales, Interior Design manager. “We wouldn’t accept anything less than leadership design and world-class craftsmanship.” With a completely redone exterior that echoes the classic Mustang designs of the past, an interior featuring world-class materials, numerous technology upgrades and an improved driving experience, the 2010 Mustang is poised to become the latest classic in the proud line of Ford’s iconic American muscle car. ---- DesignMore muscle. More motion. More Mustang. All of that comes standard on Ford’s 2010 Mustang – which reflects a new design inside and out. The Mustang design team, led by Chief Designer Doug Gaffka and Design Manager George Saridakis, referenced classic Mustang design cues and developed a thoroughly modern interpretation, giving more “muscle” to the iconic car. The result is a more athletic-looking Mustang with continuous, flowing lines emanating from highly sculpted surfaces. This Pony is One Sinewy SteedLook no further than Mustang’s signature pony badge for the essence of the 2010 design. The badge, which is larger and more chiseled, sits proudly in the upper grille. The aggressive look is enhanced by larger grille openings flanked by slimmer headlamps, which now incorporate integrated turn indicators. The addition of lower front splitters adds to the sporting appearance but are also functional aerodynamic elements improving Mustang’s fuel economy, downforce and overall performance. An athletic, sinewy design is emphasized by distinctive character lines that grow out of the main body, “as if the sheetmetal has been shrink-wrapped like a skin suit around the muscles and skeleton of the car’s understructure,” Saridakis said. Another inherited and distinctly identifiable Mustang cue comes in the form of the tri-bar tail lamps. The three individual red chambers, each lit sequentially by a single Luxion LED, are separated by two clear vertical back-up elements, ensuring the tri-bar look is recognized in lit or unlit conditions. The sequential illumination of each chamber is a unique and important characteristic of the 2010 Mustang’s identity. ---- Quieter than everThe sound of a Mustang is one of the most evocative in the history of the automobile. “We wanted to improve the driving environment for the customer. While you’re travelling down the road, it’s now much easier to have a conversation with your passengers, but when you stand on the gas, you still hear the roar of the engine and the sweet sound of the exhaust,” said Greg Wayne, NVH supervisor for the Mustang. “We maintained that Mustang characteristic sound, but made the whole driving experience much more enjoyable.” Wayne said the NVH team worked closely with their colleagues in Design Engineering and Manufacturing and Assembly to integrate the solutions, which sometimes were neither obvious nor easy. “One of the guiding principles for Ford NVH is ’Feels Right, Sounds Tight,’ ” Wayne said. “Door opening and closing falls right into our efforts to create a solid, vault-like sound when you close the door and that positive ‘snick’ and feel when you open it. A lot of factors play into that in terms of the door hardware – latches, strikers, sheet metal.” The revised Cold Air Induction system yields increased power but cuts out a significant portion of the interior sound and the character that customers want to hear. The IST was developed and tuned to recover and enhance that character.
20 comments: Ford Mustang All things said, but fact is fact, Mustang WAS a great car, if these people continue to built these HP-less (performance less) cars then WAS will remain WAS. Ford gotta see that they have to compete. Everybody was expecting a better car after so many teasers, Cars like these are going to take the rest of american cars’s name down the drain
jtm, don’t bother with this guy. LS7BOYZ, GM and Chrysler have been granted a bail out of 17 billion, so its all good. GM won’t go down much as I wanted it to. Now lets see if your big 3 can deliver what they promised before March.
hey man chill i’m not saying the american car companies cant make great cars. i love vettes and vipers. the new challeneger looks sick and cant wait for the new camero to come out. all i’m saying is dont bash a skyline cus unless you’re driving something with a price tag around 300k chances are that the skyline will kick your in anything but a drag strip... and even then it can take on most cars there too. like i love the pontiac GTO also a favorite of mine and i love classic muscle too.. my dad owns a 69 charger RT that i’d die for but dont diss a car just cus you dont like it. i’d love to buy american... well a viper or vette or challenger srt8 or the new camero ss when it comes out but for now i’ll settle with tuning my 240sx. hell i couldn’t afford to import a skyline anyways and sorry but i dont have 70k+ to throw out for a new r35 either. nobody’s buying cars right now the economy in america is right now man. every company needs a bailout so just chill i got back ground on my cars. i love cars AMERICAN AND CARS FROM EURPORE. so dont come to with that u boy. how about u just shut the hell up and sit down because us americans made cars easier for assholes like u to buy. i support my country by having my parents buy a from the U.S. unlike u i live in detroit and if the big 3 go down most of my family will not have JOB u donkey raming so people like u guys is y the big 3 need a bail-out. so dont me and if u do u lose. so go home contemplate about how u ed up the big 3 z.
that was directed to the ls7 guy... not you AK47 just a little background info b4 he bashes a car is all
before you start throwing stats out the window you should do some research. first off... the r32 r33 and r34 are a 2.6 liter inline 6 twin turbo... they "officially" produce 276 hp and 280lbs of torque... but many have been dyno tested around 320hp and 315lb of torque... given the engine could produce much more... the japanese restrict boost on the skyline to around a total of 7 psi... thats 3.5 psi on each turbo. well most turbos operate around 7 psi each and the skyline could handle much more on stock internals so just raising each of the turbo boost to 7psi manually and removing the ecu which restricts the power even further you can easily surpass 400 hp... also the stock engine has a been detuned in the exhaust region as well... reseach has showed that the exhaust on the skyline reduces its power by nearly 30 hp as opposed to a catback exhaust...thats a pretty impressive gain for only reducing backpressure... now the new r35 is a 3.8 liter v-6 twin turbo...independent dyno tests have shown power range from 415 all the way to 500 hp and close to the same on the torque side of things... this car is also detuned just to keep the power in this range which the tranny and other technology are suited for... there are multiple codes all in the engine and ecu which have to be broken if you are to tune the car at all....and to be honest nissan doesn’t want you tuning this car.... oh yea and these two cars are a good 30k cheaper than their stock competitors... so i mean if we can throw 30 k under the hood to match the price of your production car then hell our numbers would be insane.... dont get me wrong i love muscle cars but you’re argueing against a skyline... come on man like almost any other japanese car i could see your point but these cars outrun ferraris and lambos and porsches and stuff.... like really Whoa! Whoa! Calm down domestic fanboy. Check the resale values of cars like Hondas and Toyotas and you’ll see how much value they have. Hell the Civic probably has a higher resale value than your stupid Cobalt. Car like Lexus have horizontal depreciation. You also need to get your eyes checked if you think any version from the R32 to the R35 is no different from each other. The only thing similiar between the R32 and R34 was the inline RB26 DETT and they had 276hp because of a gentlemans agreement. Very few guys would know the difference between a base Vette and the ZR1. So much for your different looks. And again- 10 more hp difference?! Dip$hit, subtract 276hp from the 473 0f the R35. What do you get? Ring times, how much more power did the ZR1 have and how much less wieght and how much more does it cost? Both your ZR1 and ACR beat the GT-R around the Nurburgring by a couple of seconds. Thats 473 hp with a curb weight of 1750kg of the GT-R verses 600hp and 638hp of the ACR and ZR1 respectively, with both having a much lower curb weight, not to mention supersticky tyres while the GT-R has runflats. And a difference of a couple of seconds! Thats absolutely pathetic, you dimwitted moron. They should have scored in the lower sevens instead of 7.22. As I said, it is because of idiots like you that GM and FORD are still selling cars because you would rather pay for crap built quality and $hitty interiors than cars with better quality and build which also happen to cost less or the same. yall should be mad at yourself most of u live in U.S so u have to support ours cars even if they got y interiors but this is my country. yall support people that u cant understand what their say half of the time.the U.S makes the best cars in surtain markets u dumb . a have a 67 GTO and the resale value is high. on most japenise cars resale for alot less then when u brought it. the corvette is a great car even JC of top gear said the zr1 is a great car its alot different than a z06 if u read the what it say. o yeah wats the different between a GTR r32 and a gtr r35 10 more hp when we americans make a new car we give alot more power a different look and a better sound out the V-8 so intill the an japenise car has the nurburgring record shut the -up and lay down no i completely agree a sports car should have quick acceleration times... i mean i dont consider a hyundai tiburon a sports car even if it has the looks but what i’m saying is that if you count the mustang out of a the sports car classification solely bc of its acceleration then you also have to cut out all the other cars i listed... 350z... s2000 rx8 and a load of others that are frations of a sec slower than the mustang... but by no means do i consider the mustang a respectable sports car... its just a sports car... its suspension is crap... its engine is crap... i mean like you said a 3.5 liter dohc v-6 engine produces more hp than a 4.6 liter v-8 like wtf thats terrible... but it still is a sports car bc its relitively quick for its price... but i will agree handling comes into consideration when determining whether a car is a sports car or not... hence why i consider the s2000 even though its 7 tenths of a second slower than a mustang to be more of a sports car than the mustang as well as the rx8 i’m just saying that setting the supra to be the lowest standard of cars to be considered a sports car is being quite critical since the supra is respected around the world as being quite performance driven... i’m only saying that a car doesn’t have to outrun a supra to be a sports car bc that would make nearly every affordable car on the market not sports cars including the 350z evo sti rx8 s2000 mustang camero challenger charger and even the base c6 vette would barely cut it into sports car classification... it doesn’t have to be a super car to be a sports car. LS7BOYZ, yes the Supra came out in 1979 and it hadn’t changed much until it stopped production in 2008. However the Mustang looks the same as it came out and it was the so called new model almost every year so it is basically an 80s Mustang. And WRONG! The big 3 is dying because finally the American public have become smarter. Carrying a patriotic flag when buying a car is one of the dumbest things you can do. The big 3 is dying because for years they have given cars with shoddy interiors and unparalled unreliability. It is people with your way of thinking that has led GM and Ford to constantly lower their standards knowing all the while that people like you would keep on buying the the garbage that you people regard as automotives. You are not getting the better deal when your car has a few more horsepower but a cheap interior. Example. the Cobalt SS. It is one heck of a car with plenty of performance but it fails in the interior department while costing the same as a base Mazda Speed 3. Yet almost every American site is full of Domestic fanboys harping on about the SS being the best. If you people had actually criticised the manufacturers about the interior, they might have been improved. If you people had been angry about the new Mustangs having live rear suspensions, Ford might have changed them and you might have gotten an actual sportscar. Instead you people choose to put on your country flags around your shoulders and carry on about domestics being the best regardless. It doesn’t matter if its crap, its domestic so it must be good, is your line of thinking and that sadly is the reason the American automotive industry is failing, because of you people. One more thing. How different is a ZR1 and an ACR from others Vettes and Vipers? My point exactly........ jtm, I disagree with you on one point. A sportscar should have quick acceleration figures, be lighter than conventional cars and most importantly handle well. The latter is something that I can guarantee you won’t find in a car with a live suspension. I doubt any Mustang can take a corner worth a lick. Is the Camaro a sportscar? With the new independant suspension setup, of course it is. Z06? It has a leaf suspension. A sportscar? It light and it can take corners, not as smoothly but it can. 350Z to a Mustang? Thats also not fair because the Z has a fully independant suspension. Not to mentionm it has a V6 running with 3.5 L and delivering 305 hp to 270 lb-ft of torque. Sure the Mustang has 10 more hp with 325 torque on a 4.6L V8.How that engine made Wards ten best list is beyond me because the ratings, as you said, the engine ratings are garbage. Iam also pretty sure the Z wil keep up with this Mustang in straight lines and hand the muscle car it own a$$ on a track. hey man i’m not bashing muscle cars the viper is one of my favorite cars of all time... i’m just saying that the mustang cant keep up with the supra but its bc the supra is twin turbo... the other guy was saying the mustang shouldn’t be called a sports car cus it cant keep up with a supra... i just said saying that if a car cant keep up with a supra then its not a sports car is setting pretty high expectations for all sports cars... i mean a gto with an ls2 has a hard time keepin up with a stock supra... so does a 350z... i was just sayin that if you say to be a sports car it has to keep up with a supra automatically eliminates about 80 percent of the cars on the current market... even performance ones that are under 60k dollars
u said a 92 supra which is 16 years old thats really old and u want to compare it to a 2010 mustang. the mustang look better way better sound better and has a all american V-8 and its people like u that is killing the U.S BIG 3 buying those japenise peice of . the ZR-1 and ACR will make it look like a pirus so dont come on the mustang with that old so go home and come to the present day cars ferraris lambos vettes and 911’s so u can say what ever u want but the 2000 and present day cars are way better and look better by far i bet u a an overfinch range rover sport will blow out an supra.
but i agree something should be done with this single overhead cam 4.6 liter sorry excuse for a v-8... ford needs to do some research... hell at least make it a dohc and 5 liter to satisfy the extra weight of the extra cylinders you do realize that even though it cant keep up with a supra... there really aren’t that many cars on the road today at all that can stock... cars like the supra skyline 300zx 3000gt and other stock turbo’d cars can outrun most cars on the road today... does that mean the rx8 isn’t a sports car... it cant keep up... is a honda s2000 not a sports car... it cant keep up either... realistically you have to realize the supra is twin turbo’d ... which is the about the equivalent of a 5 liter or bigger v-8... and thats on low boost... factory with upgraded ecu alone the boost can go up on a supra and it can outrun most vettes and other cars on the road... including an evo and an sti... so comparing the supra to a mustang is a little unfair... how not to mention a used supra still cost more than a new mustang if in good condition and low miles... try maybe a 350z to a mustang... thats at least around equal playing grounds Rodrigo315 is right! Mustang’s V8 cant even take on a ’92 Supra turbo (320 hp, I6 3 litre), And shame on those who call this thing a sports car!!! Horrible
