We've never been to the Land Down Under despite it being a beautiful country/continent. From what we've heard though, that place is the home of some of the best beaches in the world, thousands of beautiful women, and some pretty randy performance vehicles.

One of the cars that caught are attention is a machine built straight out of Ford->ke31 Australia's Performance Vehicles division: the Boss 335 GT.

The mere fact that it carries the legendary 'Boss' monicker is enough to warrant this car a stamp of approval, but we're not all about judging something based on sheer name value alone. We went out and took a look at the 335 GT to see if it was deserving of a 'Boss' badge.

What we found was a car that packs quite a bit of meat under its hood, although not to the stratosphere of the Boss Mustang 302 in this neck of the woods. Nevertheless, it's still pretty powerful and, on top of that, it has its fair share of features to boot.

Sure, we've seen more powerful cars here in the US, but over in Australia where the cars drive on the other side of the road, the Boss 355 GT is one car you wouldn't want to mess with.

UPDATE 04/10/11: In Australia, Allan Moffat is considered as one of the finest racers in the country, having won four Australian Touring Car Championships to go along with his four Bathurst titles. So when he gives his stamp of approval on anything, those Aussies will definitely listen. Recently, the racing legend got behind the wheel of the new Australia-exclusive Ford Boss 335 GT. The rest, of course, is a matter of taking his word for it, which we believe people at the Oz take seriously. Check out the video for your viewing pleasure.

Details after the jump.

Exterior and Interior

The Ford Boss 355 GT’s design language takes its cues from its predecessor’s aesthetic heritage. Aggressive and svelte at the same time, the GT’s exterior styling is highlighted by the new and exclusive Boss 335 stripe package, a set of new 19” five-spoke premium Alloy wheels with a machined face and Dark Argent access, and a newly developed high-flow pipe quad outlet exhaust system. Other features include an FPV oral badge on both the front grille and rear, an FPV fender feature badge, side mirror turn indicators, an FPV high-wing rear spoiler with center strut, and an LED stop light.

For the interior, the folks over at FPV spared no expense in dressing up the Boss 335 GT to impress even the most skeptical of customers. Among the notable features found in the car include sports seats in Silverstone cloth with a GT logo embroidered on it. Customers who prefer an upgrade from the Silverstone cloth can opt to deck out their seats in Soho leather. The car’s steering wheel, which has also been dressed in sports leather, comes with an array of easily accessible controls including cruise control and audio-mounted switches. Rounding out the standard features are dual zone temperature control air-conditioning, a four-way power adjustable driver’s seat, a premium audio system, Bluetooth and iPod integration, and a reverse sensory system.

Performance

The Boss 335 GT will be powered by a high-performance 5.0-liter supercharged DOHC 32V all-aluminum V8 engine that produces 335kW @ 5,700 RPM with a maximum torque of 570Nm@ 2,200 – 5,500 RPM. The engine is then mated to a TR6060 six-speed manual transmission with a leather and satin chrome gear knob. As for the brakes, the car comes with 335 x 32mm cross-drilled and ventilated front rotors with Brembo 4-piston calipers and 328 x 26mm cross-drilled and ventilated rear rotors with single red piston caliper.

Pricing

The FPV Boss 335 GT is priced around AUS$70,000, which is around $70,300 based on current exchange rates.

COMPETITION

It’s tricky to find a competitor for a car that lives in the Land Down Under, but since its Australia, the best comparison to make for the 335 GT has to be something out of its local rival, Holden and it’s own performance division, HSV->ke3092. The closest to come to the 335 GT is the HSV GTS and its 6.2-liter LS3 Generation 4 alloy V8 engine that produces 13hp less than the Boss GT at 436hp.
