Next to the Focus ST, Ford also unveiled the Fiesta ST at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The Fiesta ST is a concept car that features bold and dynamic exterior styling inspired by the Fiesta RS WRC and a driver-oriented interior. The concept also hints at what a future Fiesta ST performance model could look like.

The Fiesta ST concept continues a tradition started 35 years ago with models like the Fiesta XR2 and XR2i, Fiesta RS1800, and RS Turbo. Under the hood, the concept gets a 1.6-liter Ford EcoBoost engine that delivers a total of180 HP.

"The Fiesta has a rich history of high-performance models so a new ST performance model is a logical next step in our performance vehicle strategy for our global small cars," said Derrick Kuzak, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development. "The Fiesta ST Concept continues that tradition by showing how a global performance version of our best-selling B-car can be both technically advanced and dramatically styled."

Exterior and Interior

The exterior of the new Fiesta ST concept was inspired by the Fiesta RS WRC and includes a large, distinctive trapezoidal grille and a dramatic rear diffuser that envelops a twin exit exhaust. The concept has also received a lowered stance, widened wheel arches filled with 17" alloy wheels, and full ST body kit mirrors. The interior gets Recaro sports seats for the driver and front passenger.

The Fiesta ST is finished in a new color for the European market - Molten Orange - as featured in the North American Ford SVT F-150 Raptor pickup.

"With the Focus ST we promised to deliver uncompromised sports performance and styling to a truly global audience for the first time, without sacrificing Ford’s key values of Smart, Safe, Quality and Green. With the Fiesta ST Concept we are demonstrating that our Global Performance Plan has legs," said Jost Capito, Ford's director of Global Performance Vehicles.

"The Fiesta ST Concept shows in the most dramatic way possible that the qualities that define an ST are not limited to one model. The potential for delivering the ST experience to an even wider audience are laid bare by this striking new concept."

Engine

The new Fiesta ST Concept is powered by a 1.6-liter Ford EcoBoost engine that delivers a total of 180 HP and a peak torque of 177 lbs-ft. The output is just enough to sprint the concept from 0 to 60 mph in less than 7 seconds and allow it to hit a top speed of 136 mph.

Prices

The Ford Fiesta ST is only a concept so there's no chance that anyone will be ever to purchase one at this time. That being said, the production model for this concept is set to debut in 2013.

Competition

When the Fiesta ST goes on sale in 2013, it will have to take on models like the Renault Clio 200. It gets a 200 HP engine and sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds, while top speed halts at 141mph. The Clio 200's performance may be better, but the Fiesta ST has a more aggressive look that will appeal to the masses.
