The third generation Ford F-Series Super Duty has been unveiled in 2011 and now, for the 2013 model year the pick-up truck gets even more impressive thanks to the addition of SYNC with MyFord Touch, but also with a first-ever Platinum series model.

The Platinum trim will only be available in Super Duty Crew Cab configuration and it will be distinguished by an exterior chrome treatment for the grille, door handles, mirror caps, running boards and exhaust tip. The interior gets high-quality wood grain trim and premium leather seating.

"The F-Series->ke1913 Super Duty Platinum is the latest expression of Built Ford->ke31 Tough truck luxury," said Brian Rathsburg, F-Series Super Duty Marketing manager. The exterior and the interior

The new Super Duty Platinum will be distinguished from the rest of the line-up thanks to its grille that features a satin chrome surround, a monochromatic bumper and chrome tow hooks. The chrome treatment has also been applied to the door handles, mirror caps, running boards and exhaust tip. A "Platinum" logo will help you to further identify and a new set of 20" polished-aluminum wheels with painted black inserts are the final element for the new Platinum trim.

For the interior Ford is offering a combination of the highest quality wood grain and quality leather. The steering wheel is heated and leather-wrapped, with genuine wood accents, while the instrument panel, center stack and door trims are all wrapped in premium wood grain. The seats are wrapped in softer, premium leather and they have a "Platinum" logo embroidered on fine craftsmanship.

Exterior colors include: Ruby Red, Kodiak Brown, Tuxedo Black, Ingot Silver and White Platinum and for the interior Pecan and Midnight Black.

The engine

The new Ford F-Series Super Duty Platinum will be available only in the Super Duty crew cab and it can be ordered as an F-250, F-350 or F-450 pickup. Under the hood you can opt for either a 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel engine or the 6.2-liter V8 gas engine. The two engines will be mated to a 6R140 heavy-duty TorqShift six-speed transmission.

The diesel version delivers an impressive 400 HP and 800 lb-ft of torque, while the gas version delivers a total of 385 HP and 405 lbs-ft.

Prices

The new 2013 Ford F-Series Super Duty Platinum will go on sale later this year. prices will be announced closer to its market launch.

The competition

We believe that the new Platinum version makes from the Super Duty a cooler pick-up when compared to competitors like Nissan Titan or Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD. The Titan is powered by a 5.6-liter DOHC Endurance V8 rated at 317 horsepower and 385 lb-ft torque - a huge advantage for the Platinum no matter what engine you will opt for. The Silverado is powered by a 6.6 Liter Duramax diesel engine mated to a heavy duty Allison 1000 six speed transmission and sprint from 0 to 60 mph in under 9 seconds.
