2014 Ford Flex

Posted on by

Ford unveiled the production version Flex at the 2007 New York International Auto Show and put it on sale in the summer of 2008. A mild facelift was revealed at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show , when the model received an updated exterior look with a single-bar grille replacing the old three-bar grille and "FLEX" lettering replacing the Ford logo. A more powerful V-6 version was also added.

Given all the updates offered for the 2013 model year, it’s no surprise that the 2014 Flex remains pretty much unchanged, with the only updates including new exterior colors — Sunset Metallic and Oxford White — and a series of new standard features.

The model will continue to be offered in three trim levels — SE, SEL and Limited — with prices starting from $31,100 plus $895 destination and delivery charges. Buyers can order it in six- or seven-seats versions, plus front wheel drive or all wheel drive configurations.

Competition

2014 Dodge Durango

Dodge Durango

Just like with the 2014 Flex, the 2014 Durango is offered with a choice of two engine. The standard engine is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine that delivers a total of 290 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Optionally, buyers can select a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine delivering a total of 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque.

Still, when it comes about general look we will take the Durango over the Flex, mainly because the Dodge model received a sportier look and a better equipped interior.

2014 Chevrolet Traverse

Chevrolet Traverse

Traverse has the disadvantage of offering only one engine variant: a 3.6-liter, V-6 engine that pumps out 281 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and 266 pound-feet of torque at 3,400 rpm when equipped with single exhaust. This output can be increased to 288 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque with the optional dual-exhaust system.

Conclusion

Ford Flex

Ford Flex is a combination between a SUV and a mini-volume. No matter what you are considering it, the 2014 Flex offers quite a spacious interior, lots of cargo volume and numerous storing places hidden all over the interior. The fact that it is offered in both FWD and AWD configurations make it even interesting, while the seven seats version make it the perfect ride for large families.

Ford Flex

Flex offers Intelligent AWD, which continuously monitors vehicle and driver inputs, predicts traction, and automatically delivers the precise amount of engine torque needed to all the wheels – even before slippage occurs. AWD is an option with the 3.5-liter Ti-VCT V6 engine. It’s included on models powered by the available 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6
Torque Vectoring Control uses the vehicle’s brakes to imitate the effect of a limited-slip differential, constantly balancing the distribution of engine torque between the front wheels during cornering, resulting in improved grip and steering and a reduced chance of understeer
Curve Control senses when a vehicle is entering a curve too quickly, and can apply four-wheel smart braking to reduce vehicle speed by up to 10 mph in approximately one second and help drivers follow their intended path. When a vehicle enters a curve too fast, the system responds to the driver’s steering input by rapidly reducing torque and increasing brake pressure to help keep the vehicle under control
