Back in March 2012, the Hennessey Ford GT became the fastest car at Texas Mile with an impressive top speed of 257.7 mph. Now, the supercar has set a new world record. With Sean Kennedy behind the wheel, the Hennessey GT posted a new standing half-mile record of 219.9mph in the half mile. This impressive result was achieved at the 8,000-foot runway of Ellington Airport, the Houston Half Mile.

The Hennessey Ford GT that established this impressive record was powered by an Accufab Racing V8 engine updated with two Precision Turbochargers for an impressive output of 2000 bhp. By comparison, the most powerful Hennessey Ford GT is the GT1000, a model that has a Twin-Turbo 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 engine that produces 1,000 horsepower at 6,600 rpm. The GT1000 has a 0-60 mph time of 2.8 seconds, a quarter-mile time of 10.6 seconds at 142 mph, and an increased top speed of 245 mph.

The name Carroll Shelby may not be quite as familiar to new automotive enthusiasts as it is for older generations, but his creations are no stranger to anyone that follows and loves performance automobiles. Mr. Shelby was not only a genius when it came to building high-performance American muscle, but he was also an accomplished racecar driver.

Carroll managed to parlay his racing roots into a partnership with Ford that spanned over 50 years. However, that partnership almost never happened, as his first choice in partners was Chevrolet. Imagine that, a “Shelby Camaro ” or “Shelby Corvette,” it just doesn’t quite sound as good as "Shelby Mustang ,” does it?

Carroll Shelby lived a full life, as he graced this world with 89 years of his presence and nearly 60 of those years he was providing us gearheads with examples of his automotive skill, be it winning races or designing hot rods. Carroll Shelby will be missed dearly by everyone in the automotive world, but we are not here to mourn the passing of this legend. Nope, we feel that the right way to send off this legend is by celebrating his long and legendary life.

If we were writing about a motorcycle, then this story would not be as incredible as the one we are about to tell you, but James "Ski" Smith attempted to do something a little more extraordinary then hopping on a motorcycle for a fast lap. Smith flipped his Fox bodied Mustang up onto a 2 wheeled SKI and tried to complete a lap around the famous Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey California.

The first thing we have to mention is that no one should try this at home, or their local streets. It takes a tremendous amount of skill to drive a car on two wheels for that length of time and, to make his attempt even more difficult, James Smith had never actually been around the race course before this stunt. Imagine how difficult it was to go on a maiden lap on two wheels!

Check out the video to see what it’s like lapping Laguna Seca on two wheels with the use of the onboard camera and the view from the car alongside it! Enjoy!

Every automotive enthusiast has heard about Carroll Shelby and knows about his huge contribution to the automotive industry. He began his racing career as an amateur, and in 1959, won Europe’s prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 1962, he tested his first Ford-powered AC 260 Roadster – the car that would become the Shelby Cobra . This was the beginning of his extremely impressive career, but unfortunately, on May 10, 2012, this legend died at the age of 89.

"Today, we have lost a legend in Ford Motor Company’s history, and my family and I have lost a dear friend. Carroll Shelby Shelby is one of the most recognized names in performance car history, and he’s been successful at everything he’s done. Whether helping Ford dominate the 1960s racing scene or building some of the most famous Mustangs, his enthusiasm and passion for great automobiles over six decades has truly inspired everyone who worked with him. He was a great innovator whose legend at Ford never will be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends," said Edsel B. Ford II, member of the Board of Directors of Ford Motor Company and great-grandson of Henry Ford, founder of Ford Motor Company.

RIP Carroll Shelby. The automotive industry has lost an inspiration and will surely miss you.

Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

The 2007 Shelby GT500 came out with a whopping total of 500 HP, before the power output jumped up to 540 HP in the 2010 model year . Both sets of numbers are rather significant, but with the 2013 Shelby GT500 pushing 650 HP upon its arrival, customers who own a 2007-2012 GT500 may feel as though they are at a disadvantage. Well, worry no more.

Shelby Performance Parts has announced a new supercharger kit for the 5.4-liter V8 engine that can add an impressive 300 HP to the GT500. This means, the total output can be increased to an amazing 840 HP!

The new kit will replace the stock roots-type supercharger and will add a new Competition Heat Exchanger and Shelby GT500 Competition Intercooler Tank to improve cooling performance. The new Competition Heat Exchanger will keep the intake charge cool, while the Competition Intercooler Tank can be filled with ice or dry ice to further reduce intake temperatures.

The bad part to all of this is that there are no pricing details associated with the package as of yet. We’re thinking an upgrade package of this caliber will run customers somewhere in the $5-6K area.

Ford and Roush have joined forced one more time and have developed a one-off Stage 3 Mustang that will put on auction May 16th, as part of the SAE Foundation’s 25th Anniversary Celebration. All the proceeds will go to SAE and will help to promote and support foundation’s math and science education programs.

The car will be painted in custom silver and will feature a pretty impressive Roush body kit. It will include a hood scoop, a new grille with RS3 badge, a Ford Laguna Seca Boss front chin splitter, a rear decklid spoiler and valance and dual chamber exhaust tips. This impressive body kit will be combined with lots of painted graphics and the signature of Edsel Ford II, Bill Ford Jr. and Jack Roush.

For the interior Roush will add Recaro seats, a Ford Laguna Seca X Brace, illuminated door sill plates, a Roush gauge cluster and billet pedals.

The car will keep the same supercharged 5.0L-4v powertrain found in the 2013 Stage 3 models, but output will be increased from 565 HP to 625HP and 540 ft-lbs. And in order to handle the extra power the tuner will add a Roush-tuned suspension; SVT GT500 track pack wheels and Roush four-piston brakes.

UPDATE 05/20/12: The Roush Stage 3 Ford Mustang Special Edition has been sold with a final bid for the car reaching $100,000. Proceeds from the auction will be donated to benefit the SAE Foundation’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education programs.

We all love Ken Block and his series of high-action Gymkhana videos, but that’s on a real-life scale. On a more micro scale, we can enjoy piloting our very own Ford Fiesta - actually, it’s Block’s Fiesta - to do Gymkhana our way.

The only caveat is we have to do it with a Hot Wheels model. Recently, Hot Wheels released a pint-sized, RC replica of Ken Block’s world-famous Gymkhana Fiesta . Clearly, they think highly enough of their new toy that they even made a video of it running roughshod in Venice Beach, California.

More than just the video, the toy itself is pretty cool and it gives all of us frustrated drifters to live our drifting dreams vicariously through a toy. The only downside to this R/C is the non-existence of smoke that’s being generated by the tires.

In its place? A center-mounted wheel under the car that effectively does the drifting for us. Despite that, though, we’d still buy this toy for all the reasons we just said. And if you need further convincing, look no further than the video and you shall too be tempted to make the purchase.

In the past few years Ford has significantly changed the technology inside their vehicles. As a result most of the vehicles that are now available on the market will be available with innovative technologies, plug-in hybrids and EcoBoost® engines that combine power and efficiency.

And more than that the cars are also coming to the possibility of "self-parking" or they are opening their doors for you. One of the most innovative models announced lately is of course the new Focus Energy that will go on sale as a 2013 model. It is powered by a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine paired with a paddle-shifted six-speed SelectShift Automatic™ transmission for an estimated fuel consumption of 26 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway.

Bottom line: when designing their vehicles Ford has chosen to "Go Further!" And now, they are inviting you to do the same! More details on gofurther.com

The Ford Mustang 3.7 V6 doesn’t get as much love as its 5.0-liter counterpart , and for the most part, the less attention is warranted. But every so often, a V6 Mustang comes out of the woodwork and makes a name for itself.

One tuner that has found a soft spot for the V6 Mustang is ProCharger, which built a supercharger kit for the lesser ’Stang. The supercharger kit gave the Mustang a dramatic increase in output from the standard 305 horsepower and 280 lb/ft of torque all the way up to 475 horsepower from the muscle car’s 3.6-liter V6 engine.

Taking that one step further is Central Florida Motorsports, which fitted ProCharger’s supercharger kit on the Mustang and proceeded to smash the existing quarter-mile record - one that it already owned - for a 2011+ Mustang V6, covering the distance in just 11.20 seconds at 119 mph.

In order to achieve this remarkable time, the standard V6 Mustang by CFM went through a variety of changes, including the addition of ProCharger’s D1 centrifugal supercharger system producing 13 pounds of boost, as well as BBK long tubes, BBK offroad X, FRPP 4.10 gears, a Magnaflow "street" catback exhaust, an SCT custom tune, 80lb/hr injectors, a Driveshaft Shop aluminum shaft, and a Circle D 3,000 Billet Converter. These modifications gave the Mustang a dramatic increase in output from the standard 305 horsepower and 280 lb/ft of torque all the way up to 475 horsepower from the muscle car’s 3.6-liter V6 engine.

The car was also equipped with a new set of RaceStar wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial 295/55-15 wheels. There is also a Steeda adjustable control arm and BMR lower control arms.

Check out the video posted by Central Florida Motorsports of their Mustang V6 and watch how it annihilates the quarter-mile strip.

UPDATE 06/22/2012: Central Florida Motorsports - aka CFM - just developed one of the most amazing Mustang V6 models available on the market. Based on a 2011 model, the updated muscle car just became the world’s fastest V6 Mustang , running the quarter mile in 10 seconds at 125.37 mph, an improvement from the 11.20 seconds at 119 mph it just achieved a few days ago!
