The Lotus-Renault team became the fourth Formula One team to present their 2011 race cars to the media. The R31, as it’s being called, was presented at the pit lane of the Valencia race track ahead of its first pre-season test session that’s been scheduled for next Tuesday at the same circuit.

In addition to the presentation of the black-and-gold R31, Lotus-Renault also presented their 2011 driver line-up, featuring Robert Kubica and Vitaly Petrov. Together with technical director James Allison, team principal Eric Boullier, and chairman Gerard Lopez, Kubica and Petrov personally pulled the covers off of the R31, marking the return to partnership of two companies - Lotus and Renault - that last worked together in the 80s.

“Words like ‘aggressive’ and ‘innovative’ are very much in vogue in Formula One at the moment, but where the R31 is concerned we feel those adjectives are appropriate,” Allison said.

“It’s true to say that the car has been designed in an ambitious manner and a quick glance at the layout will confirm that its entire concept differs considerably, not just from last year’s car, but from any car this team has ever produced.”

Ferrari drivers, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa , were on hand at the company’s Maranello headquarters to draw back the drapes covering the new "150°" Italia Formula 1 car. The 150° Italia is Ferrari Ferrari ’s fifty-seventh single-seater and is named as a tribute to the 150th anniversary of Italy’s unification.

Built to comply with all of the regulations set forth for the 2011 season, the 150° Italia, internally known as the 662, features a more aerodynamic front and a hydraulically controlled adjustable rear wing (replacing the now illegal double diffuser and blown rear). The KERS regenerative brake system also makes a comeback in this model thanks to a higher minimum weight and stricter controls on weight distribution figures.

Tests are still being run on the new race car in Valencia, and the team predicts that a few more changes will be made before the first race in Bahrain in March 2011.

UPDATE 02/10/11: It seems like trouble may have found a soft couch at the Fiat household. Apparently, Ford wasn’t all that happy when Ferrari decided to name their 2011 Formula One car "F150" as an ode to the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy. According to the Blue Oval, the name drew too close to their F-150 pick-up truck and has since filed a lawsuit against the Italian automaker on grounds of trademark infringement. Ferrari quickly clarified the matter, saying that the F150 is actually an abbreviated version of the car’s real name, the "F150th Italia". On that note, Ferrari will begin using the complete name of the car moving forward to avoid all the trouble.

UPDATE 03/07/11: Either somebody is having a hard time letting go or it’s just a pretty serious case of ’fickle-itis’. Either way, Ferrari has once again changed the name of their 2011 Formula One car from the "F150th Italia" to just "150°". Apparently, the symbol ’°’ is the equivalent symbol of "th" in Italian. So there you have it, Ford. Ferrari has acquiesced to your demands. Now you can go about and try convincing people that your F-150 truck isn’t really a Ferrari Formula One racer.

A Formula One car is easily recognizable in this day and age, but what lies ahead for the sport will quickly change the look and feel of these vehicles faster than we can say, "regulations suck." The FIA has already stated that these vehicles need to utilize a 1.6-liter turbo engine starting in the 2013 season and teams will also need to reduce their fuel consumption by 35%. So what happens to these cars when they have to be nipped, pulled, tweaked, and downsized?

Former Executive Director of Engineering of the Renault Formula One team, Pat Symonds, wanted an answer so he took it upon himself to design the 2020 Renault Formula One car. The car is being featured in Issue 179 of F1 Racing Magazine and offers up some unenthusiastic power figures. The design is characterized by low-profile tires on bigger wheels, the return of ground effects aerodynamics, Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS) that produce 250bhp, and a standard, non-downforce rear wing. We may have glazed over the 250bhp rather quickly, but that’s because we aren’t too jazzed about the decrease in power. However, these changes will need to be made in order to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

"Taking into consideration all the variant motivators that drive regulations, I expect that the F1 car of 2020 will demonstrate much more change than has been seen over the past 10 years. A few simple assumptions can determine the basic architecture of the car. By the time we add a few changes, such as larger wheels and low-profile tires, we start to get a fairly clear picture of what the car might look like."

"The illustrations we’ve produced are certainly an artistic impression, but they capture the essential characteristics of a car that will be contesting the Formula 1 World Championship in 2020."

When people say that Formula One cars are some of the fastest moving vehicles on the planet, some might scoff at that as an exaggeration of speed. Well, if you’re one of those skeptics, prepare to eat your words with this video.

Shot as an overlap featuring two separate videos taken at the Eau Rouge section of the Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium, these videos will give you a clear picture as to how much faster a Formula One car is compared to cars competing at the FIA GT Championship. Keep in mind also that cars that compete in this class consist of race-spec models from brands like Aston Martin , Audi , Lamborghini , Porsche , and Maserati .

With a notable line-up like this, you would think that the difference wouldn’t be that dramatic when you compare it to a Formula One car. Well, watch this awesome video and prepare to be proven wrong. Very, very wrong.

Formula One’s return to American soil is scheduled for 2012, but as of now, the site that’s going to host the US Grand Prix in Austin, Texas is still nothing more than just a patch of dirt with no resemblance of the actual race track .

Deadline’s a little under two years away so we can only hope that they’re already doing something to break ground on the site. The plan was for that to start happening last December and to their credit, they seem to have made their target after construction equipment was spotted in the land before the year ended. Let’s just hope that with the constrained timetable, they’ll be able to work hard enough to finish the track before the summer of 2012, around the time the F1 circus hits the US once again.

If you’re looking for any updates on the track, the Statesman has released a video reporting the progress being made on the track with a few sound bytes from the construction crew that’s already hard at work in laying the ground for the future Formula One race track.

The shares from the Renault F1 team, which is partially owned by Genii Capital, have been sold to Group Lotus just in time for the 2011 season. This will mean that for this next season, the team will be renamed "Lotus Renault GP." The partnership has been formed for the next seven years, making sure that we will see them in Formula 1 until at least 2017.

Their new car, the Lotus Renault GP F1, will incorporate new technologies from F1 cars into Lotus road cars including hybrid technology, Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS), aero advancements, and lightweight materials. The benefits of Genii’s part-ownership will be the availability of non-F1 technologies such as lightweight braking systems, variable compression engine technology, and on board software systems.

Group Lotus CEO Dany Bahar said: "I can think of no better platform for automotive brand communications than motorsport and F1. We’re well aware that there has been a lot of controversy around the usage of our brand in F1 and I’m delighted to be able to formally clarify our position: We are Lotus, and we are back."

It’s all over now, as the2010 Formula One season is complete and we have a new, first time, world champion in Sebastian Vettel, as he took the race in Abu Dhabi.

The young Red Bull driver started the day in third in the table, but managed to lead from pole for nearly the entire race, becoming the youngest driver to win the title.

Fernando Alonso , who led coming into the weekend , came seventh, with Mark Webber right behind him in eighth.

Lewis Hamilton , who was still mathematically in the title hunt, came second, while his McLaren teammate Jenson Button came third.

The final race of the season that took place under the setting of the Middle Eastern sun was a great finale to what could have been the first season in F1 history, not to mention the best ever season for Red Bull, who took the constructors title last weekend.

We know that journalists should be objective, but we honestly would love to see Mark Webber take the title this year and it seems like he might get some help from his Red Bull teammate.

Sebastian Vettel has come out and said that he would help Webber if there was no way he could take the Formula One driver’s championship himself. If Vettel were to win, all current championship leader Fernando Alonso would need to do is come fourth, but if Webber wins, Alonso needs second place.

"In my case, it is pretty straightforward - all I can do is optimize my result, ideally repeat the result we achieved today and then it depends where those two guys are," said Vettel to the BBC.

We’ve been talking about this subject for some time now, as to whether or not the Red Bulls should work together to help Webber take the title and it’s been clear that this may just happen. That being said, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has said that if only one driver had a chance to win the title, team orders might be used.

"Of course if we find ourselves in a situation where, on the last lap, the team and one of our drivers can win the world championship, the drivers will do whatever’s necessary to ensure as a team we achieve the best result," he said to the BBC.

Alonso has said that he is 100% confident, so we’ll see during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Sebastian Vettel and his Red Bull Racing teammate, Mark Webber, came one-two in this weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix to save off Fernando Alonso’s world championship celebration.

Alonso managed third palace, but he is now only eight points ahead of Webber in the championship race.

Lewis Hamilton came fourth, all but ending his title hopes, as it would now take some sort of miracle for him to win his second championship. Mind you, at least he has some hope, as his McLaren teammate Jenson Button is now completely out of the running.

"It was an incredible day, not easy to start with. I was on the dirty side but got a good start and I saw Nico [Hulkenberg] had wheelspin. He didn’t give me a lot of room but then it was OK. I could cruise into the distance and control the pace. It’s an incredible effort from the team. It has not been an easy season, but this was the perfect answer after what happened in Korea,” Vettel said to the BBC.

One’s home race is always important and nowhere is that more evident than for Rubens Barrichello at the Brazilian Grand Prix . It hasn’t been the greatest season for the veteran driver, but he hopes for a good showing over the weekend.

The Brazilian born driver, in the effort to have the best car possible, has equipped his Williams with a brand new engine, as power and the right setup are key to a strong race finish.

"The Williams tends to suit Brazil, and I have a new engine for this race," explained Barrichello to Sky Sports. "Achieving a good set-up and qualifying result is important, but it’s not always easy to set the car up - you need strong traction and balance."

The Brazilian Grand Prix has long been either the final or the penultimate race of theFormula One season and it has never disappointed. The track is fast and features some fantastic corners that really test the car and driver.

We’ll see if Rubens can pass that test when the race gets underway.
