Wiesmann Roadster MF5

Wiesmann Roadster MF5

The German coachbuilders Weismann unveiled the new MF5 Roadster at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The MF5 is limited to only 55 units, each priced at 189,500 Euros and features the classic curves of an English sports car at first glance with an unparalleld driving experience that could only come from a modern day high tech package.

The Weismann MF5 roadster is powered by a 5.0 Liter V10 from a BMW M5 mounted in the front midship position for better weight distribution and features a few tricks to ensure that all 507 HP and 384 lb-ft of torque make it to the ground through the BMW sourced SMG sequential 7 speed gearbox that allows it to rocket from 0 to 60 MPH in just 3.9 seconds on its way to reaching a top speed of 192 MPH.

With this much power comes great responsability, so the MF5’safety system includes: an integrated side impact protection beam, ABS, DSC, a safety steering column that is adjustable in both height and length, BMW’s security system including an electronic engine immobilizer (EWS III), 3 point harness, Hydraulic Power Steering and the oh so important driver and passenger airbags.

Hamann Largo

Hamann Largo

At first glance the diminutive FIAT 500 might look like an ordinary uninteresting city car, however the high performance modification specialists at Hamann beg to differ. The German tuners have added a very sporty aerodynamic package made from light weight composite materials that transforms the way you will think about the little 500. The Hamann body kit consists of a redesigned front bumper complete with integrated LED lights, a set of wider fender flares for all four corners, a pair of lower hanging side skirts and a quad tipped exhaust complete with a redesigned rear diffuser. The components not only improve the FIAT 500 aesthetically, but they also make space for the wider wheels and tires that the tuner places underneath.

Hamann has increased the output of FIAT 500 by allowing it to exhale a little better. The tuners have incorporated a new exhaust manifold, high flow catalytic converter and a stainless steel exhaust to increase the 500’s engine output all the way up to 265 HP at 5,630 RPM and 257 lb-ft of torque at 4,200 RPM.

The Hamann Largo’s black body is set off by the set of matte black 18 inch rims that hide the larger brakes and Hamann coil over suspension underneath, the latter lowers the car by up to 3 inches, this not only gives the Fiat 500 a more aggressive stance, but also lowers the car’s center of gravity and dramatically improves the 500’s handling.

BMW X1 unveiled at Frankfurt Motor Show

Of all the props that were used at the Frankfurt Motor Show, we can’t think of anything that has served a bigger purpose than the BMW track. Since the show opened, we’ve seen car after car take a lap on the track and we figure that it’s only bound to get busier as the days go by.

One of the vehicles that made its intro on the said track is BMW’s new SUV, the X1. We’ve heard so much about the car – from its Facebook page to a bunch of commercials – but seeing it up close certainly brought our excitement up a few notches.

Of course, the X1 does cater to a younger – and more dynamic – market so it was expected that the SUV came with a more aggressive design compared to the X3 and the X5. If you look closer at the vehicle, you’ll actually notice that the car took some design cues from another BMW new release, the 5 GT.

But judging from the responses we gathered, the X1 looks to be a real winner, and not just to the market it aims to conquer, but to the more traditional BMW market. As it stands, the X1 is set to be released in Europe sometime in 2010 while the US would have to wait longer – in 2011 – to see the X1 out on their local BMW dealerships.

Volkswagen R-Line

Volkswagen R-Line

The German automotive conglomerate’s personalization line, Volkswagen Individual, has just revealed the new R-Line package for the new Golf, Scirocco and Passat CC at the Frankfurt Motor Show, all three of which will go on sale later on this Fall.

The sixth generation Golf is upgraded with a set of stylish 17 inch alloy wheels and a sport suspension to make it handle better as well as a set of body colored side skirts and a pair of aggressively redesigned set of bumpers inspired by the new Golf R. Down force is improved with a new rear diffuser integrated into the back bumper and a roof spoiler to finish off the top of the hatch while on the inside a pair of decorative door tread plates wears the R-Line logo. Volkswagen’s newest hot hatch, the Scirocco, benefits from both interior and exterior upgrades as well. The new Scirocco R-Line follows a similar diet as the Golf R-Line, except that the Scirocco’s modifications are based more on improving the vehicle’s appearance as opposed to swapping out the mechanicals underneath.

For the more luxurious end of the Volkswagen R-Line, the Passat CC gets a set of 18 inch wheels, a freshly redesigned front spoiler and lower hanging side skirts to complete the ground effects package, while the interior is upgraded with four special edition kick plates and a leather wrapped multifunction three spoke steering wheel finished off with the R-Line logo.

Welcome back, Trabant!

Welcome back, Trabant!

Trabant has finally come back from the ashes with their all new electric concept car that debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

It’s been a while since we last saw this diminutive vehicle making the rounds out on the road but apparently, the car that was once enjoyed a cult following in the Eastern Bloc is now poised and ready to return to the mix. In keeping up with the times, the new Trabant has taken the electric power route with a car that comes with a 64 horsepower electric motor that can produce speeds in excess of 130 km/h for about 250 km.

While the full and unabridged details of the car remain a good point of conversation, we do know that the car’s batteries can be recharged in just under eight hours before its ready to hit the streets again.

We don’t know about you guys, but we’re definitely excited to see one of our old favorites back in the thick of things and you never know, Trabant might be ready to regain its footing as one of the more popular vehicles to hit Europe, only this time, it’s reach just might stretch farther than just the Eastern Bloc.

Wiesmann MF5 Roadster is money well-spent

Wiesmann MF5 Roadster is money well-spent

There’s something about a car that’s decked in red and white color schemes that we find oddly attractive.

Whether it’s the pearly white exterior finish or the red upholstered interior, the Wiesmann MF5 Roadster look every bit like the car all of us have been pining to have. And now that it’s been unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the craving and yearning for this car has gone through the roof.

Sure, only 55 models are set to be released and each car costs a staggering $278,000 so there’s a big chance that we’ll never get to sit behind the wheel of one.

Then again, Wiesmann only creates cars for the big boys so you should have expected the MF5 Roadster to bring it. And ‘bring it’ it does. The car’s BMW-powered 5.0-liter V10 engine, which if you must know, can rip out 507 horsepower and 520 Nm of torque, sitting under its hood is nothing short of monstrous. Likewise, the MF5 Roadster is capable of acceleration from a 0-100kmh in just a shade under 4 seconds and topping out at speeds of well over 300 kmh.

We can buy a lot of cars for a quarter of a million dollars, but while a lot of them can be considered as lavishly extravagant spending, somehow, spending that kind of money for an MF5 Roadster doesn’t qualify as overspending. Suffice to say, it should be worth every penny.

Video: Introducing the Renault Twizy Z.E. Concept

In a day filled with super car unveilings, Renault took an entirely different approaching by unveiling a car of their own: the cute and adorable Twizy Z.E. (Zero Emission) Concept. It’s far from a super car, that much we can tell you. The car actually looks like more like a highly advanced Lego on four wheels as opposed to a traditional smart car.

The pearlescent color scheme of the car comes in a sky blue and sunflower yellow shade and the interior looks like something you’ll see in an arcade. Nevertheless, the Twizy Z.E. is more than just eye candy; it comes with state-of-the art features including a luminous matrix-like display that serve the dual purpose of headlights and taillights, full wheel covers, and that unmistakable flower ‘ornament’ sitting oh-so-happily on the dash.

For a smart car, the Twizy Z.E. does have room for four people, although we strongly advise tall people from sitting at the back. As far as its electrical power is concerned, the car takes it from an electric motor that has a grand total of 20 horsepower and 70Nm of torque and maximum speed of 75 kmh. While it certainly lacks in unbridled speed, the Twizy is as efficient as they come with a range of up to 100 kilometers.
