Frankfurt Auto Show

Frankfurt Auto Show

To be clear: you’ve seen this program before from Mansory at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show back in March.

But the Swiss tuner wasn’t content with building just one show-piece model of the Gronos program for the Mercedes G63 and G65 AMG models. So it built another one, and quite frankly, the model that’s being shown at the Frankfurt Auto Show is even more over-the-top than the one we saw in Geneva.

If you remember, the Gronos program back in Geneva sported a Magic Yellow paint finish, outlandish but not really too out-of-this-world. This one appears to come in naked carbon, with Mansory opting to show the newly designed bodywork in all of its ultra-light carbon glory. Notice also similar treatments done on the front spoiler, particularly the way the tuner positioned the LED daytime running lights and the front fairing that lays over it. Even the roof, the mirror housings and the decorative trims on the sides of the utility SUV exude the pure-carbon design without any coloring.

Moving inside, the modifications are a little more subdued, although still distinct enough to warrant attention. The dashboard, as well as the entire area of the center console, is completely redesigned, while various parts of the cabin are treated to a combination of pristine leather, fine wood and carbon-fiber details. With all these materials in play and subject to a customer’s whims and tastes, you can pretty much dress up your own G63 AMG anyway you want using only the finest materials available.

Like the first Gronos program that was showcased in Geneva, this one received a completely reworked 5.5-liter V-8 engine that’s been kitted with real racing components, a lot of which have been changed to go with a newly designed exhaust system. In the end, the G63 AMG Gronos now pushes out 840 horsepower and an electronically limited 738 pound-feet of torque. The 0-to-60 mph sprint is now estimated at just under four seconds, and top speed is now 175 mph.

For the entire program, vehicle included, Mansory is asking quite a pretty penny for the Gronos program to the tune of €1.1 million, which is about $1.4 million based on current exchange rates.

Audi unveiled the new-generation A3 hatchback at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show , and shortly after, it started to test the other models in the A3 lineup, including the convertible version.

After being caught testing in many times, the new A3 Cabriolet will make its official debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show . To no one’s surprise, the model will carry over many of the components from the hatchback version, with the only exception being, of course, that new cloth top.

The new model grew significantly, as its total length goes from 166.8 inches to 174 inches. Despite this growth, the A3 actually drops 110 pounds over the previous model, thanks to Audi switching over to lightweight materials and the new building technologies.

Updated 09/09/2013: This review has been updated with the official details, images, specs and video.

After releasing arguably one of the most straight-forward press releases in the auto industry, Citroen bared its Frankfurt Auto Show plans and a big part of it will be the Cactus Concept , a car that has turned to be better than we previously thought.

After all the details of the Cactus Concept were bared, we couldn’t help by wonder how much of all the new technology, including the highly advertised "Air Bump" bumpers, will translate into the production model.

An indication of this technology seems points to bumpers that absorb the kind of damage that would’ve messed up any other bumper. The accompanying video after the jump even does a demonstration, although how much help the phrase "touch me" does when you accidentally touch your own monitor is a little misleading — you feel even worse when you realize that your monitor is not a touchscreen...

We’re guessing technology like ’Airbumps’ was what Citroen was aiming for when it said that it was embracing a “Pure, Simple, Smart" philosophy.

It’s hard not to give the Mercedes G63 AMG 6x6 the applause it deserves because not doing so would probably result in the vehicle jumping off our page and slapping us silly with those two extra tires.

All joking aside, this vehicle really is one for the ages. Adding German tuner extraordinaire Brabus into the equation, makes this one monster ride that will no doubt leave every other vehicle scampering away and cowering in fear by the vehicle’s mere presence.

At the Frankfurt Auto Show , Brabus will present its program for the G63 AMG 6x6. You had better find a nice place to hide because if this Brabus-tuned G63 AMG 6x6 finds you looking at it funny, it might just decide to give you a knee-buckling stare of its own.

Give credit to Brabus for taking the time to work on a vehicle like this. Chances are, the company enjoyed working on it so much that Brabus engineers likely "tested" the model extensively.

Renault unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show the new family of Megane models, topping the lineup with the high-performance version: the Renault Sport 265. The model received an updated exterior look that includes a new hood and headlights, plus some elements inspired F1 technology.

If you remember, a special edition Megane RS 265 Trophy smashed the Nurburgring record for front-wheel-drive cars back in 2011, and it was to expected for the new Megane R.S. to pay tribute to that model. From the Trophy model this new Megane R.S. borrows a few design elements, like the 19-inches wheels wrapped in the same Bridgestone high-performance tires used to set the world record.

The model comes equipped with limited-slip differential, front suspension with an independent steering axis and a chassis offered in two configurations — Sport or Cup — allowing the driver to enjoy it at its full potential.

The production version i8 wasn’t the only unveiling the Bimmer had coming at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show , as BMW also threw together an X5 Security Plus — a concept specially designed to offer all-round protection against violent assault, kidnapping and organized crime.

The concept features high-performance steel moldings and panels that ensure the best protection, even against an AK-47. There is also a specially developed security glass resistant to attack by blunt weapons, while the polycarbonate coating on the inside of the glass provides effective protection against flying splinters. The concept is also equipped with security-specific components and technologies that help you protect yourself against all kinds of attacks.

Along with the safety features, the new X5 Security Plus Concept also offers excellent driveability, thanks to its V-8 TwinPower Turbo engine with 450 horsepower, and BMW xDrive all-wheel drive.

BMW also optimized the chassis to compensate for the extra heft that installing these security system creates. This helps assure that the security-detail X5 looks, drives and behaves just like a normal X5.

Every major auto show that Brabus goes to, you can expect that at least one of its programs will be dedicated to the billing "fastest-something-in-the-world".

At the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show , that distinction falls on the capable shoulders of the 2013 Mercedes CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake .

If you thought that station wagons are merely characterized as family cars, Brabus’ 850 6.0 Biturbo program will throw that notion right out of the window with the fury of a car running 800 horsepower worth of output.

That’s what makes this Brabus program for the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake such a mouthful to digest. Sure, it already has the performance credentials to be called a powerful car, but the German tuner takes it to a whole new level normally reserved for exotic coupes.

Then again, we shouldn’t be surprised anymore because Brabus does it over and over again, and the results have been nothing less than spectacular.

Somewhere in this world, there’s somebody willing to shell out over $1.65 million for a car. Sure, it’s a supercar and its actually a Lamborghini Aventador Roadster, but for that price, you can actually settle for about five standard Aventadors in different colors, right?

Well, for the few people that can shell out that much money on an exotic without even breaking a sweat, Mansory has the car for you.

It’s called the Lamborghini Aventador Carbonado Apertos and Masonry will offer just three examples for sale, which is the likely reason for the huge price tag. Besides its exclusivity, the Aventador Carbonado Apertos is the kind of car that only a Swiss tuner with the reputation of Mansory can build.

You want an excess of carbon fiber on your Aventador? Check. You want an interior that’s dressed to the nines, tens, and elevens? Check. You want a car that has over 1,250 horsepower under its hood? Check.

That’s what you’re going to get with this crown jewel program and if you happen to have plans to go to the Frankfurt Auto Show , you can see one of the three models up close and personal.

After unveiling the 2014 S-Class sedan back in May, Mercedes decided to preview the coupe version at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show . However, in a strange twist, the German company decided to only show a concept version of the new S-Class Coupe and not the production version.

After teasing it yesterday for the first time, Mercedes fully unveiled the S-Class Coupe Concept today. The production version will serve as the successor for the CL-Class , and it will target super-luxury models, models like the Bentley Continental GT .

Mercedes will build the new S-Class Coupe on a modified version of the S-Class sedan’s platform and will come with the choice of either a V-8 or V-12 engine. In concept form, the S-Class Coupe carries just a V-8 engine.

A production version will follow at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show .
