Frankfurt Auto Show

Jaguar C-XE

The 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show is still over a month away, but automakers are beginning to feed information to the press to draw in visitors. One such semi-confirmed rumor is this: Jaguar Jaguar is expected to show a new sports car concept in Frankfurt, and that car is said to form the highlight of Jaguar’s exhibit at the show. While Jaguar steadfastly refused to either confirm or deny rumors, it’s likely that the new car will be a smaller, less expensive alternative to the current Jaguar XK.

To grow sales, Jaguar has long wanted a car that could compete with the likes of the Porsche Boxster or the Infiniti G37 Convertible . If British auto magazine Autocar is correct, the car that Jaguar is showing at Frankfurt has been in development for quite some time, and “will blow the rest of the industry away” when it is revealed.

Rumored to be called the Jaguar XE , the car will likely use a V-6 engine with twin sequential turbochargers. Horsepower or performance numbers are anyone’s guess, but to make a big enough wave in the industry, the XE would need to cost less than the Porsche Boxster while providing noticeably better acceleration, braking and handling. That’s a tall order, especially when you’re comparing a front-engine, rear drive car to a mid-engine, rear drive car that’s known to be among the world’s best-handling.

Jaguar’s own official statement on the matter is typically British, with a company spokesman saying simply, “Jaguar has bold plans for the future, the next stage of which will be revealed at the Frankfurt show. We are likely to have a concept car to announce there.”

In other words, look for the revolutionary new Jaguar XE to debut in concept form at next month’s Frankfurt Auto Show.

Could it be that Alfa Romeo is preparing to introduce a concept sequel to a previously-introduced concept car?

Well, if you’ve seen their first Frankfurt-related teaser, it’s looking like that’s exactly the case. Released on their Facebook page, the teaser pretty much shows the Alfa Romeo 4C GTA , or at least something that looks virtually identical to the concept that Alfa showed at the Geneva Motor Show last March.

The only thing that we can take out of the silhouetted image is the car’s front end with its headlights on and what appears to be a different gray finish. If you recall, the 4C GTA from Geneva had a matte red finish to it.

For all we know, this car could be the Spider version of the 4C GTA as has been rumored in the past. But there’s also a growing sentiment that this could be an improved version of the original concept, which should only attract more positive feedback for the British brand since the first concept was such a hit back in Geneva.

Alfa Romeo has not given any indication on what it has in store for us, but it certainly looks like they’ve got a few surprises up their sleeves for Frankfurt . And since they’re in the process of coming back to the US market, these kind of surprises are exactly the things that’s making American consumers, us included, stand up and take notice.

If the suspense surrounding the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show wasn’t feverish enough, Lamborghini has decided to stoke the fire to a smoldering blaze with the release of a mysterious teaser. The image doesn’t do a whole lot to make our imaginations go crazy so the speculation behind what supercar this is going to be is anybody’s guess.

Based on what we know, there are plenty of guesses as to what car we’ll be seeing hit the show floor. It could be the roadster version of the Aventador . It could be the production version of the Sesto Elemento . Heck, it could even be the new Cabrera , the eventual successor to the Gallardo . Okay, that last one is a bit of a stretch, but who knows?

Then again, it could still end up being a totally new model that we’ve never heard of before. We’d love to make an educated guess, but with the words ’Lamborghini - Racing Towards Frankfurt’ being are only clue, our guess will probably be as good as anyone else’s.

What we do know is that Lamborghini’s going to make Frankfurt a whole lot more interesting. And on that alone, we already can’t wait for September.

The upcoming Audi S8 has been caught testing for the first time "completely naked" while cruising in the European Alps. These fresh prototypes reveal all the glory and beauty of the S8 set to be launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show this fall.

As you can see in these spy images, the S8 will feature sportier front bumpers, four chrome exhaust pipes in the back, and bigger brakes for added stopping power. That excess stopping power will be put to good use now that Bentley is working on their new twin-turbo 4.0 liter V8 engine. This new engine will be used for the Continental GT , but will also be finding its way to the S6 , S7 , and, of course, the S8. Once dropped in the S8, this new engine will crank up the luxury sedan’s output from the current 444 HP to about 500 HP, all while being 20% more fuel efficient than the V10 it is replacing.

After being rumored for quite some time now, Maserati’s future SUV will make its world debut in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show as confirmed by CEO of Chrysler Group and Fiat, Sergio Marchionne. The model will be appearing as a concept, but will provide a good idea as to what to expect from the production version set to follow in 2013.

The new SUV will be built on a Jeep Grand Cherokee platform, but the power behind it is still a mystery. Marchionne revealed very little, saying that the SUV’s engine will be "a rock and roll engine," possibly in both V8 and V12 variants. It was first rumored to be loaded with a Ferrari-sourced V8 or V12 engine, but recent talks have nixed that notion. Now, the rumor mill is churning information about a Chrysler Hemi V8 with 465 HP, but no confirmations have been made. For Europe, there may even be a diesel engine, most likely a 3.0 twin turbo Fiat.

Whatever engine gets the chance to reside under the Maserati SUV’s hood, it should be ready to pounce on models like the Porsche Cayenne . The Cayenne, being the pioneer SUV of the performance-based automakers, has had its time to shine and may need to up the ante to battle with the upcoming competition.

The 2012 Fiat Panda has been caught testing under extreme weather conditions somewhere in Italy revealing nothing but complete camouflage from head to toe. Despite the heavily clad exterior, details of the vehicle’s new design path have already been revealed due to some leaked patent drawings.

Other modifications to the exterior include a bigger air intake, a disproportionate rear quarter window, and a new set of wheels. The interior will also be significantly improved compared to the current model.

So far, we haven’t heard a peep as to what will be residing under the hood, but we expect to see the same engine lineup as found in the Fiat 500 . That lineup includes a 69 HP 1.2. 75 HP1.3 Multijet with DPF and a 100 bhp 1.4 16v, as well as TwinAir technology.
