Ferrari has finally introduced the world to the all new 458 Italia at the Frankfurt Motor Show and of course no major Ferrari launch would be complete with out the seven time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher in attendance and here are a few videos from the event to prove it. The long awaited successor of the mid engine Ferrari F430, has become a reality and the new super car looks so much better in three dimensions than any photograph could have ever shown. The high performance sports coupe comes complete with a new engine, improved aerodynamics, upgraded handling and improved instrumentation and ergonomics inside the cabin.
Under the rear deck lid of the Ferrari 458 Italia, the artisans from Maranello have placed a screaming 4.5 Liter V8 engine equipped with the traditional Ferrari flat crankshaft that gives the mid-engine sports cars their signature top end bark. The unit produces 570 HP at a rather high 9000 RPM and still get 18 MPG. Weighing in at only 3042 pounds, the new Ferrari will rocket from 0 to 60 MPH in just 3.4 seconds and won’t stop until it hits a top speed of 202 MPH.
For most a car like the Ferrari California is nothing more than a dream, let alone a tuned version of Maranello’s latest hard roof drop top sports car. The aftermarket manufacturer Hamann has just unveiled their latest creation at the Frankfurt Motor Show, a customization package for the Italian sports car that improves both its appearance and performance with a host of carbon fiber aerodynamic pieces as well as a 20% bump in power.
The Spanish automaker Seat just unveiled the third version of the Ibiza lineup at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Even if it is just in concept form, the all new Ibiza Concept, Ibz, will make it to production in 2010. The new Ibiza features a distinctive exterior as well as interior design and benefits from the use of cutting edge technology to create a gripping driving experience.
Up front the Ibz concept features design details like a forward sloping hood, honeycomb center grill complete with aluminum surround, wide mouth front bumper and diamond shaped headlights filled with bright LED lighting. The Spanish speaking section of Volkswagen also added a set of 19 inch alloy wheels, each with an embossed ‘S’ in the center cap and a sporty high mount roof spoiler out back.
The interior of the Ibz concept is covered in the creamy color “Magnolia” and comes with a newly designed set of bucket seats that lead into the sporty design of the instrument panel as well as the four circular air vents on the dashboard that are encased in aluminum. The Seat Ibz concept is a forward thinking design stud that adds a previously unseen level of style and sophistication for the Spanish Golf.
200 European customers will be very happy as they will have the chance to drive a limited edition Peugeot RCZ. Revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the RCZ Limited Edition is painted in pearlescent white, coupled to a Nappa black leather upholstery interior.
The Limited Edition RCZ comes very well equipped with equipment such as the WIP COM 3D (and the Peugeot Emergency service), the Vision Pack (directional bi-Xenon headlamps, headlamp wash, etc.), the Nappa Leather Pack (heated electric leather seats, over-mats, etc.), the Easy Motion Pack (front and rear parking assistance, etc.), the alarm, etc.
Each units will be numbered from 1 to 200 and will be priced at 35,500 euros.
The now Indian owned Land Rover brand will unveil the limited edition Range Rover Sport Autobiography at the Frankfurt Motor Show. With a scheduled production of only 500 units, the new limited edition Land Rover will feature interior upgrades like a two tone premium leather as well as a few unique exterior design cues like the mesh grill and matching fender vents and a set of 20 inch diamond finished alloy wheels to complete the exterior.
The Autobiography edition Land Rover is based on the 3.6 liter TDV8 and Supercharged versions of the go anywhere all terrain vehicles and will be available with the world class Logic 7 1200W Harman Kardon High Dynamics audio system that features up to 15 independent channels of clean crisp sound being delivered through 19 premium quality speakers.
Car tuning specialists TechArt, long regarded as one of the best car tuners in the world, is set to unveil its new styling program for one of Porsche’s new flagship sports cars – the Panamera.
The custom kits will make their first appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show where TechArt will be on-hand to present the company’s custom programs for the Panamera S, the Panamera 4S and the Panamera Turbo. The kits, which is set to go on sale around December of this year, is rumored to include a slew of other features, including a bodykit, alloy wheels and flush interior stylings.
To say that TechArt knows what its doing is a vast understatement. The firm has a proven track record of excellence and their venture into the world of the Panamera looks to be no different.
Thanks to the company’s Aerokit 1 program, the Panamera was given a major overhaul, including the additions of a front spoiler, side skirts, a rear bumper with diffuser, a roof spoiler, and a rear wing, to a name a few.
The program also includes lavish upgrades to the Panamera’s interior, including a snazzy teak-and-black leather finish – including the steering wheel. Speaking of the wheel, it even takes the look of a handheld video game console because of all dials and buttons attached to it.
If it’s even possible, TechArt has really outdone itself this time. Not only does the Panamera look like it’s been through a makeover, but it does so without disrupting all the elements Porshce has put on the car.
Renault wants to prove that electric cars don’t have to be boring at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The automaker’s range of four electric concepts revealed today provide a preview of what we can expect from the French car builder to release starting in 2011.
The Fluence Z.E. Concept is a four-door electric sedan that can travel up to 160 kilometers on a single charge. Renault has incorporated a few interesting charging methods including a 20 minute recharge and the very fast 3 minute quick charge options that will allow you to travel from 4 to 8 hours depending on the power outlet’s voltage.
Fluence ZE Concept is powered exclusively by an electric motor located near the front axle that is powered by a lithium-ion battery positioned between the rear seats and the trunk. The concept rides on 21 inch wheels and the interior features video screens and a triple-zone climate control while LED lights on both the front and rear of the vehicle add to the concept’s Atmosphere Blue body color.
The cars have come in droves and for lesser men, the unveilings can be a tad bit overwhelming, but for the most established of auto scribes, the day has been nothing short of paradise.
The latest concept car to be unveiled is the 2010 Mercedes SLS AMG ‘Gullwing’ and the car – in all its red metallic glory – looks every bit as awe-inspiring in the flesh as it was on all the spy shots, videos, teasers and renderings.
The car comes with the M159 6.2-liter V8 engine, the same engine that powered a host of other Mercedes’ vehicles, ranging from the 2006 E63 AMG to the 2008 SL 63 AMG. In addition to that, the car also delves into a unique SPEEDSHIFT 7-speed dual-clutch semi-automatic tranny, designed to ride speeds in excess of 197 horsepower, plus a 0-60 mph time of 3.7 seconds.
Rarely does a car live up to the hype it generates leading up to an unveiling, but the 2010 Mercedes SLS AMG certainly lived up to it. It also always helps to have Dr. Z and Formula One Champion Lewis Hamilton around for the unveiling.
The French automaker Citroen has just unveiled the Revolte concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Revolte is a compact city car that combines the upmost luxury with a touch of fashionable fun. The Revolte concept is not very big in size, measuring in at 3.68 meters long, 1.73 meters wide and 1.35 meters tall and features a three seater cabin design.
The Revolte is powered by a rechargeable hybrid drivetrain that consists if a small displacement conventional combustion engine combined with an electric motor, with a battery supplying the electric motor with juice and both power plants able to drive the wheels. The French concept has no CO2 emission and also features a practical and quiet ride with a high level of driving comfort.
The Revolte is all about extreme colors and interesting materials, like: woven black leather, thick crimson velvet and gleaming aluminum. Inside of the Revolte you won’t find the conventional materials like the traditional wood offerings and ordinary colors. The cabin incorporates a very contemporary meridian sofa whose flowing lines cover the entire rear area of the concept as well as the space that is typically reserved for the front seat passenger. In this case, the passenger sitting in the third seat can stretch his or her legs and enjoy the sensations offered by the cosy, luxurious ambiance.
In what is being expected as one of the most star-studded Frankfurt Motor Shows in recent years, BMW threw the first salvo by officially unveiling its Vision EfficientDynamics hybrid super car in one of Frankfurt’s first preview events.
Leading the unveiling was BMW chairman and CEO Dr. Robert Reithofer who commented that the new super car boasts of one of the world’s most technically advanced engines and body construction technology.
The car is by all means everything we’ve been talking about for the past couple of months. It’s got the 2+2 seat configuration and is powered by a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbo diesel hybrid making it capable of churning our as much as 356 horsepower. The car clocked impressive times in its’ 0-100 kmh test time, clocking in at just around 4.8 seconds – a jaw dropping number considering the car’ average fuel consumption reads at only 3.76-L/100km.
Although the car seems to be impressive in every aspect, Reithofer did put in a word of caution, saying that the Vision EfficientDynamics is far from a finished product and BMW is still looking at other means by which improve the car’s efficiency down the road.
