  Future cars in the making. Should they be an innocent drawing, a fine computer rendering or real driving concept, they always preview the cars of the future in some aspects.

SSC North America has been teasing us with the Tuatara supercar since 2011. The highly anticipated vehicle could finally become a reality next year, as the Washington-based manufacturer is laying ground for a state-of -the-art production facility in West Richland, WA.

The company’s plan to move its operations in a new facility isn’t new, but the project has been lagging for a about a year due to financial difficulties. Fortunately, SSC North America has managed to find the necessary funding for the $6-million project and construction of the facility is set to start in August 2014, Tri-City Herald reports.

SSC’s new headquarters will be located on a 40-acre land near Belmont Boulevard and Keene Road. The facility will include everything: an assembly line, a showroom to offices, and even a museum area. The factory should open in the first quarter of 2015. "This is a lifelong dream for me. We will get there and the project will be very successful," said company founder Jerod Shelby.

The Cherolet Colorado debuted in 2004 as the replacement to Chevy’s first-ever, American-built compact pickup: the S-10 (the LUV that predated the S-10 was an Isuzu product). The Colorado continued with only minor changes through the 2012 model year when it was abruptly discontinued. Little did we know at that time, this was more of a break than a discontinuation of the model, as the covers were pulled off the totally redesigned 2015 Chevy Colorado at the 2013 LA Auto show joining the still fresh Silverado and Silverado HD. The Colorado is based on the global truck platform, but is highly ‘Americanized’ with many key components swapped out for heavier-duty items based on the new Silverado.

The Colorado rides on a fully-boxed, hydroformed steel frame giving it a sturdy platform for hauling and towing. Initially the Colorado will come with two gasoline engine options with a diesel debuting the following year. This diesel engine shows just how serious Chevy is in making the new midsize pickup a class-leader. We suspect that other automakers will soon follow suit and offer diesels in their midsize pickups.

Updated 06/18/2014: Chevrolet announced specifications for the 2015 Colorado which will go on sale this fall. With output starting from 200 horsepower, the new Colorado will be the most powerful in the midsized truck segment. Full details after the jump.

Generally speaking, off-road performance and track performance are not realms that can exist together within one vehicle. But somehow, Land Rover has been breaking the laws of physics with its Range Rover Sport since its debut in 2005. Now it seems Land Rover has decided to abolish all traces of such forces that keep large SUVs from handling well around corners. Meet the upcoming Range Rover Sport RS.

Yep, RS. Land Rover is taking the already sporty Sport and turning up the juice for a more engaging, on-road experience thanks to a few key improvements, not the least of which is a more powerful engine. It’s highly likely the standard Sport’s 5.0-liter, supercharged V-8 will remain, but with the same 40-horsepower bump the Jaguar XFR-S enjoys. That brings the Range Rover’s normal 510-horsepower mill up to 550 ponies. Expect Jaguar’s extra 41 pound-feet of torque to transfer over as well, bringing that total to 502 pound-feet.

Audi ’s brand-new electric turbodiesel engine, which was showcased in the RS5 TDI Concept last month, is set to become more than just an experiment. That’s the word from Australian outlet Drive, which claims the drivetrain will hit the streets in the next-generation Q7 SUV . Needless to say, we are not surprised.

The said oil burner displaces 3.0 liters and features an all-new e-boost unit that provides maximum torque from just 1,250 rpm, until the regular turbo kicks in at 3,000 rpm. This technology eliminates turbo lag, and enables the diesel to perform better and respond quicker when the gas pedal hits the floor.

The concept version of the engine mounted in the RS5 TDI delivers 385 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough to push the coupe from naught to 62 mph in only four seconds and label it as the fastest six-cylinder diesel vehicle ever developed within the Volkswagen Group . We expect these numbers to change once the production engine finds its way into the Q7’s bay, but the SUV should be quite the performer.

Audi ’s recent focus on compelling design and high-quality interiors has proven to be a smart move, allowing it to carve out its own niche in the luxury market and become a true competitor to BMW and Mercedes-Benz . Journalists love the company’s extreme, go-fast models and they help improve Audi’s image, but the real money comes from its mainstream sedans and crossover SUVs. While Audi has plenty of the former, ranging from the A3 all the way up to the A8, the latter is limited to just the Q5 , Q3 and Q7 .In 2016, however, Audi is set to release the Q1, a crossover SUV that will slot underneath the Q3, making it the smallest crossover SUV on sale.

While tiny crossover SUVs aren’t particularly exciting to anyone other than accountants and car salesmen, Audi appears to be planning something more exciting that just the plain, vanilla Q1. If reports are true, the Q1 will receive the full RS treatment in the form of the Q1 RS a year after the base model hits showrooms.

The Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge Prototype will make its first ever dynamic appearance at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed . The running prototype, which debuted at the Beijing Auto Show earlier this year, previews a production sedan that could pack the exact same engine found in the Nissan GT-R .

Aimed at high-performance sedans like the BMW M3 and the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG , the Q50 Eau Rouge could cost as much as $100,000, Infiniti boss Johan de Nysschen revealed earlier this month . With such a hefty sticker attached to its name, it’s not at all surprising that Infiniti is looking to attract as much attention as possible prior to firing up the assembly line.

And what better venue to do that than the Goodwood Festival of Speed? Sure, the Q50 might seem out of context among the classic race cars and the modern supercars attending the British event, but make no mistake, there’s a Nissan GT-R heart pumping under that four-door body.

As if the 2015 Porsche 911 GT3 RS story wasn’t complicated enough, a new photo showing a possible scale model of the high-performance sports car just surfaced the Internet to pour more fuel on the fire. It may sound inappropriate for a brand-new vehicle to break cover via a scale model, which is supposed to hit specialized stores and showrooms after the car benefits from the necessary publicity, but it happened before.

For instance, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class made it onto the Web in the form of a 1:18 diecast model weeks before the German manufacturer staged its grand unveiling. Of course, that doesn’t mean the Porsche in the adjacent photo is the actual 911 GT3 RS, but we can’t help notice a few details we’re already familiar with.

Firstly, the scale model is clearly based on the latest iteration of the 911 GT3 . Secondly, the wheels are 100 percent similar to those seen in the GT3 RS spy shots we received earlier this year.

The Continental GT arrived for the 2003 model year as the first Bentley vehicle launched under Volkswagen ’s ownership. Sold in both fastback and convertible guises, the first-generation Continental GT got its juice from a 6.0-liter W-12 engine. Many special editions and iteration followed until 2011, when the second-gen model was introduced. The redesigned grand tourer keeps its W-12 mill, but a 4.0-liter, V-8 engine was finally added to the lineup. In 2013, Bentley unveiled the Continental GT3 , a race car that marked the manufacturers return to racing. And just a year after the track-only GT3 arrived, the Brits rolled out a special-edition GT3-R coupe to pay tribute to the track-exclusive machine.

To be sold as the GT3-R beginning with the fourth quarter of 2014, the new vehicle sits atop the Continental V8 lineup, boasting more horsepower than any of its brothers, and a bevy of exclusive features and technologies. It’s also the fastest-accelerating, and the most dynamic and responsive Bentley ever built, feats that will likely help sell the 300-unit production run like hot cakes.

Adding to the GT3-R’s appeal is the fact that all examples will be hand-built at Bentley’s headquarters in Crewe before being sent off to the company’s Motorsport division for the final touches. Now let’s see what makes the GT3-R so special.

Since the unveiling of the LaFerrari and F12berlinetta , the 458 Italia has become a little outdated, so to speak. Sure, it still holds plenty of value in the market, but it just feels dated now. Well, at the 2013 Frankfurt International Motor Show in September, Ferrari plans to debut a concept that it based on the 458 to not only bring the model back into light, but to also showcase future technology for the automaker.

Dubbed the Ferrari 458 Speciale, this model takes the impressive performance credentials that the 458 Italia already features and cranks the dial way up. A nice and healthy boost in output partners up with active aerodynamics and traction modifications to make this the most capable Ferrari road car to grace a track. It’s just too bad that this specific model will never make its way to production

The Wankel engine appears to have a bright future ahead as Mazda spills the beans about a revival of the rotary in an upcoming replacement for the sporty RX-8. U.K.-based AutoExpress says the automaker is eschewing the idea of turbocharging its rotary in favor of its trendy and efficient ‘SkyActiv’ engineering methods. Though no solid details have been confirmed, Mazda seems to have conveyed a few "understandings" to AE in regards to the car’s structure and engine performance targets.

Besides the high-revving rotary, the upcoming car is said to be based on a stretched version of the soon-to-be-unveiled, next-gen MX-5 Miata. It’s likely the chassis will have to undergo some strengthening in order to deal with the larger amounts of horsepower. Though it will be beefed up, Mazda will surely work hard to keep the new vehicle under the old RX-8’s 2,888-pound curb weight.

The RX-8 replacement is expected to hit showrooms for the 2017 model year after it makes its world debut in 2016.
