  Future cars in the making. Should they be an innocent drawing, a fine computer rendering or real driving concept, they always preview the cars of the future in some aspects.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV has soldiered on largely unchanged since its introduction in 1979 with only few cosmetic pieces, more elegant interior accommodations, and newer engine options separating the 30-year span. However, a report coming from AutoCar suggests the Germans will be changing more than just a few bits and pieces on the upcoming G-Wagen facelift.

Although it will retain its iconic boxy looks, the 2017 G-Wagen will have its width increased by around 100 mm (nearly 4 inches). The widening will allow the body to accommodate a redesigned front suspension with a three- or four-link setup and to improve stability and increase cabin space, the report adds.

Furthermore, the SUV is scheduled to get a modern electro-mechanical steering system and a redesigned structure that will include more aluminum parts. Consequently, the SUV could get rid of at least 440 pounds (200 kg) of the G350’s current 5,665-pound curb weight.

Changes are set to continue in the cabin with wider front and rear seats and a number of C-Class -inspired features. Of course, the Germans are looking to make the rugged SUV more comfortable and luxurious.

Engine-wise, the new 3.0-liter, inline-six gasoline and diesel mills currently developed by Mercedes-Benz for the 2016 E-Class will find their way into the G-Class with around 365 horsepower and 304 horsepower respectively. Both will be offered with a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission as standard.

For all the accomplishments Lexus has achieved since it broke into the luxury market scene in the mid 1980s, it still has trouble coming up with names for its paint colors. How else can you explain the company’s attempts to ask fans what to name the orange paint on the Lexus RC F Coupe ?

Ok, we’re busting Lexus’ chops here a little because if it really wanted to, it could come up with a name for this orange shade pretty quickly. But to its credit, the company wants to get its fans involved, sort of like giving them a say on company decisions.

Up until now, the RC F sports coupe has only worn a striking blue paint, but Lexus is adding this orange color into the mix. The bright shade is still unnamed, so that’s where we all come into the picture.

A quick look at Lexus’ Facebook page reveals a large number of impressive recommendations already posted. We especially liked Tangering Flame, Sunset Rage, and Fireburst, among other entries. But as far as what our suggestion is, how about Orange Symphony?

It’s not the catchiest of names, but it does reflect the fiery balance of an aggressive sports car with an aggressive color to match.

With Mercedes-Benz already testing the production version of its brand-new Concept Coupe SUV , we were wondering which automaker will jump on the coupe-like crossover bandwagon next. Well, it appears that the BMW X6 ’s second competitor will also spawn from Stuttgart, the city that’s home to the headquarters of both Mercedes and Porsche .

The latter company, who has reached great automotive heights since it launched the Cayenne , is reportedly planning on expanding that model’s lineup by adding a sportier, coupe -like SUV . The vehicle will carry the Cayenne Coupe moniker and will look identical to its full-size cousin, save for a fast, sloping roof line, Autocar reports.

Naturally, the interior will also be shared with the regular Cayenne, as will the V-6 and V-8 engines, but it’s too early to speculate on any of those matters as the Coupe won’t arrive until the third-generation Cayenne is launched sometime in 2017. The Coupe is rumored for a 2018 introduction, allowing the Germans to expand production capacity at their Leipzig facility, without which the new SUV couldn’t be built alongside the best-selling Cayenne.

"We have been considering launching a more sporting derivative of the Cayenne for some time now. The problem has been the production capacity at our Leipzig factory and the strong sales of the regular Cayenne," an unnamed senior Porsche official told Autocar, adding that the Cayenne Coupe has yet to receive the green light.

When it arrives, the brand-new sports utility coupe is likely to be priced around 15 to 20 percent higher than the current Cayenne, which fetches at least $49,600.

Rumored since 2012 and officially confirmed last year, the convertible version of the brand-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class has finally come out to play on public roads in the form of camouflaged prototype.

Although there are no actual details for us to ogle at, the vehicle hidden under wraps is far from being a mystery. Styling-wise, the S-Class Convertible will be identical to the Coupe version we’ve seen in detail earlier this year, save for the retractable roof that will make sunny days more pleasant behind the steering wheel.

These spy shots suggests that the Germans are trying really hard to create the impression that the two-door will feature a hard-top, but we do know that Mercedes-Benz will go for a soft-top just like it did with the E-Class . Using a fabric top makes a lot of sense considering that a hard-top would eat up too much trunk space, a feature the S-Class can proudly brag about.

Engine-wise, the Convertible will also borrow all of its V-8 and V-12 mills from the Coupe model. Thus, the range will begin with the S500 and go all the way up to S65 AMG into 600-horsepower territory.

There’s no information as to when the S-Class Convertible will be unveiled, but expect for this stylish drop-top to lose its covers at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show . Until then, make sure you stay tuned to TopSpeed for new details and spy shots that will most certainly occur soon enough.

Toyota has been over the fence and back regarding its plans to build turbocharged, sedan and convertible versions of the GT 86 . Last we heard, poor sales of the sports car scuttled those plans, but now it looks like they’re back on the table.

Motoring Australia is reporting that Toyota is once again hot on the idea of expanding its GT 86 lineup. While no specific plans for the car have been disclosed, there seems to be a growing sentiment within the company that poor sales notwithstanding, Toyota is finally ready to push all of its GT 86 chips in the middle of the table.

It’s a smart move to offer some diversity to the GT 86, which hasn’t earned the same level of sales respect and admiration as its twins, the Subaru BRZ and the Scion FR-S. A convertible version of the GT 86 was even previewed last year with the Open Top Concept so at the very least, we should now what to expect with a future top-down sports coupe.

As for the sedan version, Toyota has big plans for the four-door GT 86, including giving it a duo of engine options. The bid news is that there will be a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which will likely be the Subaru’s 2.5-liter Direct Injection Turbo engine that’s good for more than 295 horsepower. The other engine for the sedan will likely be a hybrid Suby engine, but not the 160-horsepower one found in the XV Crosstrek — you may exhale now... Sources inside Subaru claim that the company is working on a hybrid unit that works with its direct-injected boxer engine.

Another objective for the GT 86 sedan is to have enough room to differentiate it from the coupe. Talks are already in place to make the GT 86 sedan 510 mm (20 inches) longer and 100 mm (3.9 inches) taller than the coupe model. Those are both pretty drastic expansions, so it’ll be interesting to see how the extra size affects the styling.

What’s more, the bad-add 2.5-liter DIT engine that the sedan will receive will also trickle down to the coupe model, according to the report.

The soft-top convertible GT 86, which will retain the current drivetrain, is set to arrive earlier than the sedan, possibly as soon as October 2014. The turbocharged sedan and coupe versions could arrive as early as 2016, and the hybrid model is rumored to arrive a few months later.

Unveiled in 2011, the Rimac Concept_One created quite a stir in the supercar world, mainly because of its unique, all-electric powertrain that delivered 1,088 horsepower and a stunning 2,802 pound-feet of torque. Unfortunately, the vehicle never made it into production due to Rimac ’s inability to sustain the project financially.

But that could change in the near future, according to the Croatian company, who has announced it is about to sign a €15 million ($20.8 million) deal with investors from South America and Asia, Left Lane News reports.

More than half the sum will be coming from Colombian tycoon Frank Kanayet Yepes, a wealthy investor in the energy industry known for his passion for supercars. He will be pouring €8 million ($11.1 million) into Rimac Automobili in addition to purchasing one of the first Concept_One units.

The remaining cash infusion will come straight from Hong Kong, with mineral company Sinocop Resources paying €5 million ($6.9 million) for a 10 percent stake in the company and a further €2 million ($2.8 million) in stock.

The manufacturer has yet to reveal when the first Concept_One will be completed, but founder Mate Rimac said there are "six cars in the pipeline", with each one to cost about $1 million.

The BMW X6 is no doubt one of the most successful models BMW has recently launched on the market. So, it should not surprise you the fact that more and more makers announced plans to develop their own version of the X6. After Audi has announced the Q6 , Mercedes has also revealed plans for an MLC Coupe-Crossover. Of course everyone saw that coming as there has always been a war between the three companies.

The future MLC will be built on the same platform as the M-Class, but it will be completely different. The exterior design will feature grille, headlights and tail lamps from the CLS limousine, while the general look will be a something similar to the X6. The model will feature the M-Class all-wheel-drive, but without the special off-road capabilities. Engine line-up will start from a standard 265 horsepower diesel version and will go up to a 544 horsepower one for the AMG model.

The arrival of the BMW 2 Series not only gave BMW a more versatile lineup, but it also paved the way for a powerful M2 variant in the future. Back in 2011, when details first surfaced of a possible M2, nobody had any idea on when the car would arrive. It’s been three years and still the M2 hasn’t arrived. But according to the 2addicts forum, BMW has finally given a specific timetable for the M2, which apparently will now hit production late next year, with deliveries expected to begin in early 2016.

Say what you will about BMW slow-playing the arrival of the M2, but if there’s any truth to these rumors that BMW has finally green lit the M2, the wait is going to be worth it.

Apart from the vehicle’s schedule, 2addicts also indicated that the sports coupe will use the company’s N55, turbocharged, inline-six engine, a slightly more powerful version of what’s found in the M235i Coupe’s engine bay. Whereas the latter was capable of producing 320 horsepower, the M2’s engine is tipped to be around 380 horsepower.

That should provide a little room for both the M235i Coupe and the M2 in the company’s 2 Series lineup to without encroaching on the other one’s sales numbers. It looks like BMW is confident that both models can co-exist with one another, but the company chose not to dive into more details about the M2. Despite the lacking details, we bet that the M2 will also get a more premium feel than the M235i, and a suspension closer to that of the M3 and M4 ..

That should be in the cards if Bimmer wants its customers to appreciate the M2 as its own model. Moving forward, all of us can keep an eye out on the development of the M2, which according to 2addicts, will carry the codename "pyrat2," succeeding the "pyrat" nickname given to the 1M Coupe.

There’s big news coming from Aston Martin these days, with the manufacturer revealing plans to develop a brand-new platform for its next generation of sports cars . The announcement was brief, with no specific details revealed, but a report coming from Auto Express claims the British automaker has chosen the DB9 as the very first model to benefit from the all-new underpinnings.

Likewise, the DB9, which is expected to be unveiled in 2016, will also get the Mercedes AMG-developed turbocharged V-8 engines, gearboxes and electrical systems as per the agreement signed by Daimler and Aston Martin last year. In return, the German group will receive up to five percent shares in the British company.

The aforementioned source adds that the upcoming DB9, as well as the next V8 Vantage, are likely to be motivated by AMG ’s brand-new, twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V-8. That’s a major change from the DB9’s current 6.0-liter V-12 powerplant . The said V-8 mill will make its debut in the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT , due to be launched later this year with at least 500 horsepower on tap.

Everybody within Lamborghini and parent company Volkswagen seems to be on the same page as it relates to the future of the Lamborghini Urus. They’re all saying that it’s coming in 2017 and we already know that. But recently, plans for the Urus took another step forward when it was reported that The SUV will built at Volkswagen Group’s factory in Slovakia. It will be built alongside the
Porsche Cayenne, VW Touareg and Audi Q7.

Sources told Automotive News that Lambo’s first stab at an ultra-luxury SUV will be built in the same plant where a number of other SUV models are currently created. That includes the Porsche Cayenne , the Volkswagen Touareg , and the Audi Q7 . Furthermore, the Urus will be built on a modified version of VW Group’s MLB platform, the same platform that will underpin the next-generation Cayenne.

In preparation for the time when the plant gets another SUV to build in the factory, Volkswagen installed its largest metal press in the facility, one that will be capable of creating steel and aluminum body panels. The objective of adding this press is to help slash weight from all of Volkswagen Group’s SUVs by using more aluminum in the coming years.

It’s no secret that a lot of people are earnestly waiting for the arrival of the Lamborghini Urus. In addition to the curiosity on how Lambo can translate its exotic character on an SUV, people, including us, are looking to see if the Urus lives up to the significant hype its been getting since its concept debut at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show .

Knowing where the it’s going to be built may not seem like big news to others, but in our case, it’s the latest indication that Lamborghini is serious about this SUV. In these times, news like this has its weight in gold.
