  Future cars in the making. Should they be an innocent drawing, a fine computer rendering or real driving concept, they always preview the cars of the future in some aspects.

Lexus has confirmed something a lot of us have been waiting for, a production version of the LF-Lc Coupe will come out in 2016. If there was ever a time to buy some stock on the Japanese automaker, now’s the time to do it. Autocar is reporting that Lexus actually has big plans for the production version of the LF-Lc. Turns out, the model isn’t just going to be a sports car in Lexus’ lineup; it’s going to be the sports car in the lineup, replacing the departed LF-A to claim that title.

Who saw that coming?

Lexus Europe vice-president Alain Uyttenhoven confirmed as much, telling Autocar that the LF-Lc will not be a “huge volume” model. Instead, it’s being prepared as a model to “boost brand image," which is probably a less direct way of saying that the LF-Lc is going to be the halo model of the brand.

This is tremendous news for fans of Lexus, especially those who couldn’t afford the LF-A and its $375,000 price tag. According to Uyttenhoven, the production LF-Lc is going to cost significantly less than the LF-A . He also indicated that the company plans to retain the design architecture of the concept model into the production version.

This is incredible news, especially for those that have waited years to hear those words of confirmation come directly from the horse’s mouth.

The BMW -Toyota partnership is beginning to take shape with more news about what’s in store from this marriage. Rumors have circulated since the two automakers announced the partnership back in January 2013, a lot of which have centered on the revival of the Toyota Supra and the development of the next-generation BMW Z4. But Automobile is reporting that the next BMW Z4 won’t be the fruit of the Bavarian automaker’s collaboration with its Japanese counterpart. Instead, it will be a Z4 replacement that will be called the Z5.

The Z5 will first arrive in concept form next year, around the same time Toyota introduces its own concept sports car. Unlike the Toyota concept, which is rumored to come as a hardtop coupe, the Z5 will begin its life as a roadster, albeit one that uses a classic soft top instead of a retractable hard top. It does seem that BMW is developing the Z5 as more of a replacement model to the Z4 instead of billing it as a successor.

As such, the Z5 is expected to come with its own identity independent of the Z4, including a new sports car architecture similar to what Toyota will use on the revived Supra sports coupe. BMW is even targeting the Z5 to weigh around 3,300 pounds, right around the same weight as the Z4.

It appears that Audi is planning to ramp the number of models it offers to 60 by the end of this decade. Though 60 models sounds like a tremendous number, Audi already produces 50. Adding an extra 10 vehicles in the next five years will be no easy task, however. The news comes by way of an interview Audi exec Chairman Rupert Stadler had with Car Magazine.

Stadler wouldn’t discuss the exact makeup of the 10 upcoming vehicles, but he did reveal the details about one, the Q1 crossover. The Q1 will share many of its components with the small Audi A1 and act in relation to it like the Q3 does with the A3 . “You’ll see the Q1 at the end of 2015 or possibly early 2016,” Stadler told Car. “The Audi Q1 is part of our broad-based SUV strategy. It is designed on the basis of the MQB modular transverse engine concept and will round off our Q series at the bottom end.”

While the Q1 will be an all-new product, it’s unlikely Audi’s other nine vehicles will be so unique. Remember that Audi counts each sub model as its own, so the S- and RS-badged vehicles are counted separately in the overall number, despite them sharing a large majority of parts with the their less-powerful versions.

Stadler mentioned possible open slots for cars in the C- and D-segments for vehicles priced over €70,000 to 80,000 price bracket. That possibly means new spin-offs of the A6 , A7 , and A8 sedans. He says the A4 and A5 vehicles are an existing example, as it’s complete with Avants , coupes , and Sportbacks.

The Laferrari FXX and the LaFerrari Spider have been in the rumormill for quite some time now. The FXX has already been spotted testing on the Nurburgring track, but unlike McLaren, Ferrari has yet to confirm a track-only LaFerrari is underway. Same goes for the LaFerrari Spider, which is rumored to join its coupe sibling sometime in 2015.

However, a new report coming from CAR suggest both LaFerrari spin-offs are set for a 2015 launch. Production is likely to commence as soon as the last of the 499 LaFerrari coupes leaves the assembly line, with both supercars to be built in very limited quantities. Much like the previous, Enzo-based special-edition Ferraris, both LaFerrari derivatives will be offered to the company’s most exclusive customers.

CAR also reveals Ferrari is currently working on no less than nine new vehicles, but until we can get hold of more information on that matter, let’s have a closer look at the LaFerrari FXX and LaFerrari Spider.

The 2016 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe just returned to our inbox wearing less camouflage than before. Initially spotted near the Nurburgring track with heavy cladding over its front and rear fascias, the upcoming BMW M4 competitor took German streets wearing nothing but the familiar swirly wrap seen on most prototypes. It might not sound like a good reason to celebrate since we’re still not able to see the vehicle in the metal, but the missing camo confirms some of the details we speculated upon on previous occasions.

The high-performance coupe is currently undergoing testing in Germany before a market launch that’s scheduled next year as a 2016 model. The two-door compact is one of the first two ATS models to carry the "V" badge and joins a segment dominated by the BMW M4, Audi RS5 and the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe . We expect the ATS-V Coupe to shed even more camouflage by the end of the year. It’s been only a couple of days since Cadillac unloaded a pair of CTS-Vs in Germany for some extensive testing on the Nurburgring track, and we just got word that the high-performance sedans have again unleashed their force-fed ponies on the "Green Hell." In fact, we have some new spy shots to share with you guys and gals, as well as a few juicy bits about the CTS-V’s brand-new engine.

It seems the 2016 CTS-V feels quite cozy on the Nordschleife and that’s good news for both Cadillac and muscle sedan enthusiasts. The current-gen CTS-V already benefits from tons of horsepower and torque to go along with good dynamics and precise handling. The spy shots show the added power won’t make the next CTS-V less agile. On the contrary, the new chassis updates have improved on the car’s skills in that department. Cadillac is looking to tighten the gap between the high-performance sedan and its popular competitors — the BMW M5 and the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG — and the next-gen CTS-V might be able to do just that.

But until it hits dealerships and starts barking up the German high-performance tree, let’s see what’s new on the CTS-V prototypes caught lapping the Nurburgring track.

The Cadillac Escalade really doesn’t need an introduction. Even the most oblivious, non-car-enthusiast consumer could easily identify — and lust after — an Escalade . Car shoppers buy Tahoes and Yukons , which the Escalade is based on, because they need them to tow boats, carry gear, and haul large families around in. Other individuals buy the Escalade simply because they want it. Seeing as a loaded-out Yukon Denali can top $70,000, what’s the big deal to pay a few grand more for the Caddy? A nicely-equipped, four-wheel-drive model can be yours for $75,290.

The new-for-2015 Escalade has been well-received by critics. The undisputed king-of-bling in this segment, combining sharp, polarizing styling, a plenty-powerful, 420-horsepower V-8, and, finally, a gorgeous interior worthy of the price. Dealers will likely not be able to keep these on their lots.

However, that isn’t stopping Cadillac from possibly introducing a few new variants in the next year or so. Cadillac is reportedly considering a Vsport edition, likely powered by the 3.6-liter, twin-turbocharged V-6. Expect more than the current 420 horsepower it provides for the CTS Vsport. Even a turbodiesel V-6 could be in the works.

Cadillac was quite the busy bee this year, especially with developing its brand-new lineup of high-performance, V-badged sedans and coupes. A new CTS-V was long overdue, while the compact ATS was anxiously waiting for some extra power to be injected in both its sedan and coupe versions. The wait is nearly over, ladies and gentlemen, as the ATS-V Sedan showed up on the Nurburgring track for suspension testing and chassis tuning.

The ATS-V Sedan joined both the ATS-V Coupe and the CTS-V Sedan on the "Green Hell", as Cadillac stormed the iconic track looking to calibrate its most important weapons against the German big boys from BMW , Mercedes-Benz and Audi . The Nurburgring Nordschleife is the perfect environment to do just that, especially with the powerful and popular BMW M3 used as a benchmark. This isn’t the first time the ATS-V Sedan has shown its face in public, but this time we’re looking at a prototype that has ditched its heavy camouflage.

Ford gave birth to the Mustang SVT in 1993, shortly after establishing its high-performance, Special Vehicle Team division. The first model, based on the third-generation, Fox Body ’Stang, was only offered for 1993 as a range-topping muscle car slotted above the GT. Visual updates were minor, but the 5.0-liter, V-8 engine was tuned to deliver 235 horsepower, 30 ponies more than the Mustang GT. In 1994, the SVT switched to the fourth-generation Mustang, but kept the 5.0-liter Windsor unit under the hood. Starting 1996, the 4.6-liter V-8 was introduced, and output increased to 305 horsepower. By 2004, the last model year of the Mustang SVT, power had jumped to 390 ponies and many special-edition SVT Cobras, including the famous R, had been released.

After skipping a generation, the Mustang SVT returns to the Ford lineup on the sixth-generation pony. Developed as a successor to the Shelby Mustang , the SVT is scheduled to arrive in 2015 and reclaim its throne at the top of the Mustang range.

These days, Hyundai is one of the top brands. With several very good — some excellent — cars, Hyundai is now a legitimate competitor with the big boys. A major contribution to the brand’s recent success has been the Genesis sedan and coupe, introduced in 2009 and 2010, respectively. While they share the same name, both cars are vastly different. The sedan is a large, rear-drive luxury model meant to take on the best mid-level offerings from Lexus , BMW and Mercedes-Benz , while the coupe, also rear-drive, is smaller and vastly sportier, intended to sway buyers away from the Mustang , Camaro , and Nissan 370Z .

Hyundai has updated the Genesis coupe recently, and now the 2.0T produces an impressive 274 horsepower, while the big-daddy 3.8-liter, V-6 version now puts out a whopping 348 ponies. Both a six-speed manual and Hyundai’s in-house eight-speed automatic transmission are available in both models.

However, according to Autoblog, the 2.0T version will be dropped for the 2015 model year. Apparently, Hyundai wants to convey a premium image, and feels the V-6 version is the only one that will cut it. I tend to disagree, as small, turbocharged (read: efficient) motors are the latest fad these days.

While the updated design for 2013, featuring upgraded power ratings and styling updates was definitely noteworthy, expect a full redesign for the 2016 model year, with V-8 power from the company’s proven TAU V-8 engine.
