The expected arrival of the Alpine-Caterham sports car is still a few years away, but Renault boss, Carlos Tavares, has already made it known that the sports car will compete against the Alfa Romeo 4C and the Lotus Evora. Tavares did clarify that the Porsche Cayman may be a little out of reach for the brand.
“It would be arrogant to say we could go head-to-head with Porsche and win,” Tavares told Autocar. “But I think Lotus and Alfa are realistic targets.”
Tavares also hinted that Renault, Alpine’s parent company, will give the latter the freedom to "express themselves", something that it wouldn’t be able to do as much if Alpine had to go through Renault regarding specifics about the future sports car.
Meanwhile, Laurens van den Acker, Renault’s chief of design, is hoping that the future sports car, which will be based on the A110 Concept, will be a springboard that will re-launch Alpine as a brand that will soon build and develop a range of other sports cars. Clearly, a lot is riding on the success of this model.
“We all love Alpine within the company, but this first car will be a measure for us of how much other people love it,” he said.
“If it is a success, then yes I can see space for us to expand."
Spyker announced that its new B6 Venator Concept, which was unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, is just the first step the company has made into its global resurgence. The company has plans to unveil a concept crossover model next year, with a production version to arrive later in 2016.
The new crossover will be based on the D8 Paris-to-Peking crossover, which was unveiled at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show, but it will be less extravagant, while still retaining Spyker’s reputation for exclusivity.
The same Spyker officials also confirmed that a production version of the B6 Venator Concept will be put on sale on the U.S. market in the spring of 2014 at a price somewhere from $125,000 to $150,000.
Once these changes are made, the company’s lineup will include three different models: the current C8 Aileron, the upcoming B6 Venator and the upcoming crossover. Once all three models are put on sale, the company hopes to sell around 2,500 units a year - up from the current 350 units.
During the 2012 Paris Auto Show, Honda has announced a few details on its future plans, and we sure like what we have heard so far. The company has announced that the new generation Civic will also receive a station wagon version and a more powerful Type R derivation. As proof of this statement, they have also unveiled a teaser image of the wagon model.
A first concept version of the next Civic Wagon has been unveiled in March 2013 at the Geneva Motor Show, with the production version to arrive in dealerships in early 2014.
The upcoming Wagon will look pretty much identical to the sedan version, except, of course, for a swooping roofline, bulging wheel arches, a roof-rack, and its capability to accommodate more luggage.
The car will be built on the same platform and will be offered with the same engine line-up as the sedan, but we will also see a new 1.6 i-DTEC engine. A hybrid version could also be a possibility.
UPDATE 03/07/13: Honda has unveiled new images and video for the new Civic Tourer Concept unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.
Rumors of Audi’s plans to build a Le Mans-inspired supercar have been floating around for the past couple of months. Expected to be called the R20, speculation has run rampant on the technical details of the supercar.
While Audi has resisted from making any comments regarding what it plans on doing with the car, technical chief, Wolganf Durheimer, bared some refreshing news at the Geneva Motor Show. Talking to Autocar, Durheimer commented that the proposed supercar is currently under "production evaluation"
More importantly, Durheimer believes that development of the car will go far enough that we could see a prototype later this year at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
“We run product evaluation on different ideas, looking at market positioning, brand image, development cost and time to market,” Dürheimer said. “Once this is done we will have a clear decision on what happens next. I would expect an update on this project in September at Frankfurt."
“It is still alive and I’m pushing for it,” he added.
Should the proposed R20 progress to the point that it could be green lighted for production, Audi believes that a lot of people would go nuts for the car, something the automaker is looking for as it tries to align its Le Mans program with a dedicated road car. Should that end up being the case, it’s likely that the R20 will carry some sort of a diesel-electric hybrid powertrain, similar to what the automaker uses on its R18 Le Mans racer.
Ultimately, Durheimer believes that hybrid supercars are becoming an important aspect of a brand’s focus.
“The market for these cars is fairly limited, but they are so important for brand image and perception,” he said.
“I think we need to do this car and show clearly where racing goes.”

The sixth-generation Ford Mustang is already under development, but all we know up to this point is simple speculations. For a long time, we have talked about rumors that the 2015 Mustang will come with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine for the first time since the 1986 Ford Mustang SVO.
At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Edmunds spoke with Ford insiders who let them know that a boosted four banger will be part of the lineup, but only for the European market.
According to the report, this four-cylinder gasoline engine will be offered as a low-emissions alternative to the V8 engine currently offered in the Mustang. The V-8 engine is highly-taxable in Europe, so the four-cylinder engine will help to boost sales.
The engine will be based on the current turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine featured in the 2013 Ford Focus ST. For the Mustang, the displacement will be increased to 2.3 liters through extending the stroke, widening the bore or maybe both. The output will be increased to about 300 horsepower up from the current 250 horsepower. It is expected to keep the fuel consumption at the current 23 mpg in city driving and 32 mpg on the highway.
These are, of course, unconfirmed rumors but they do come from a very reliable source. We’ll keep an eye out for some confirmation from Ford.
It looks like Chevy decided that the new Corvette Stingray is going to be a little bit expensive for its usual customers, so, starting in the 2015 model year, a "low-cost" Corvette is going to be added to its lineup. First details on this new version suggest it will drop the new Stingray badge and will use the name Corvette Coupe to distinguish itself.
The Stingray is powered by an all-new 6.2-liter V-8 engine, but this upcoming version is rumored to house the all-new, all-aluminum 5.3-liter V-8 engine – the same used in the new General Motor trucks, like the 2014 Sierra. This engine will likely produce just under 400 horsepower.
Many rumors pointed toward this less-expensive `Vette using a boosted V-6 engine, but GM just couldn’t get it to produce the fuel economy numbers that it needed.
Also, when compared to the Stingray version, this new coupe model will feature a different front fascia, front fender and rear diffuser to further distinguish it from the Stingray models.
Now keep in mind that “low cost” is a relative term and in this case, we are likely talking somewhere just shy of $50K.

Update 3/4/2013: We have just created a rendering of the Corvette Coupe and you can see that we expect it to drop pretty much all of the cool features of the Stingray, including the hood scoop, rear heat extractors and the removable top.

After much teasing and prodding over the past couple of months, Kia’s tiger-looking concept has finally broken cover at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.
Apparently, it’s called the Provo Concept and, as you can imagine, it looks absolutely bonkers or at the very least, right up what Kia promised as a "racy new urban concept.” It sure wasn’t kidding, huh?
But the radical conceptual design of the exterior, particularly the eye-catching front profile, only tells part of the story of the Provo Concept. The interior is also awash in some fine and fancy suede and carbon treatments while the wheels, well, those ridiculous bad boys sure do speak for themselves.
It’s also worth noting that the Kia Provo Concept is looking like the Korean automaker’s answer to the growing crossover market, one that could have the likes of MINI in its crosshairs.

When word first broke out that Nissan was bringing back its once popular Datsun brand, the general feeling was a mix of intrigue and indifference. After all, it’s been a while since we last saw a Datsun out on the road yet the possibility of the return of the 240Z was too tantalizing to ignore.
Well, Nissan is dead serious about bringing back Datsun, so much so that they recently released the first teaser of the first model of the new Datsun. Unfortunately, Nissan has made it quite clear that Datsun will be an economy lineup for smaller markets, so don’t expect to see a 240Z revival any time soon.
The teaser doesn’t offer much in the way of giving us an idea of what the car is going to look like, but the first thing we thought of when we saw the teaser was that it resembled a Volvo. The angular headlights are there, as well as a vented hood and a small radiator grille with the Datsun badge attached to it.
About the only thing we’re interested in on this teaser is that Nissan is confident about turning Datsun into a brand with a strong independent identity. We’re not as confident as these guys are ,which makes it even more intriguing on how Nissan can pull this one off in time for Datsun’s expected 2014 return.
Everyone expects that once the all-new SRT Viper arrives on the market that more powerful versions will follow. SRT CEO, Ralph Gilles, already hinted that a Viper ACR version could arrive in the near future, but this announcement is not a huge surprise.
Unfortunately, we have no idea on what the ACR variant will bring to the already powerful SRT Viper, but we can take a few pointers from the previous ACR model. It’s assumed that SRT will offer a more aggressive exterior look, bigger brakes, adjustable dampers and a set of low-weight wheels with ultra-high-performance tires.
The most impressive update will be made under the hood. The engine will remain the same 8.4-liter all-aluminum V-10 engine found in the base SRT Viper, but tricked to deliver much more than the standard Viper. Considering that the previous Viper ACR offered an extra 100 horsepower over the standard version, you shouldn’t be too surprised to see the ACR model with output close to 750 horsepower.
The previous-generation Dodge Viper ACR impressed us with great results like a Nurburgring lap time of 7:12, so we expect the same from the upcoming SRT Viper ACR. We are pretty sure SRT engineers will not disappoint us.
Expect the new SRT Viper ACR to arrive sometime in 2014.

Even though the Hyundai Genesis was just refreshed for the 2012 model year, the company is already developing the next-generation.
While the first spy shots let us see the new Genesis out for some testing on European streets, this time the car was caught testing on an ice track in Northern Sweden.
The new-generation Genesis is codenamed "DH" and will be built on an updated version of the current rear-wheel-drive chassis. Thanks to a revised suspension, the Genesis will deliver a sportier drive, and for the first time, Hyundai will offer the Genesis with a four-wheel-drive system.
On the exterior, the 2014 Genesis received styling cues that will provide the sedan with a more dramatic look. Up front, you can see full-LED headlights; a wide, hexagonal grille opening, featuring horizontal grille bars; plus LED day driving lights framing the headlights.
Under the hood, the Genesis will include with an updated version of the current 3.8-liter V-6 and 5.0-liter V-8 engines. At launch, the two engines will be offered with an eight-speed transmission and a 10-speed transmission will also be in the works for a later model year.
