  Future cars in the making. Should they be an innocent drawing, a fine computer rendering or real driving concept, they always preview the cars of the future in some aspects.

Audi just became more appealing to technophiles today after the company announced its integration of Google’s Android Auto, which was unveiled today at Google’s I/O annual technologies conference in San Francisco. Like Apple’s CarPlay, Android Auto will combine the user’s smartphone with their car’s in-dash infotainment system in a seamless manner that’s conducive for safe driving free of distractions.

Audi’s integration of Android Auto means a lot of new voice controls for Google Play Music, Google Maps, and other functions. Video and multimedia, along with text-rich items won’t be displayed while the car is in motion, but will become available when in Park.

The system comes alive when an Android smartphone is connected to a compatible Audi. A prompt appears asking if the user wants to display their apps through the MMI system. Once chosen to do so, the system basically uses the MMI screen as an interface for the smartphone. Audio streams and microphone inputs are all routed through the car.

What’s more, Audi says the Android Auto system will be available within a number of 2015 model year vehicles, meaning Android Auto-equipped Audis will be roaming the streets starting sometime this fall. Of course Audi ensures that Android Auto-equipped car will not prohibit users from connecting non-Android smartphones like iPhones or Blackberries, but the full functionality of the system won’t be accessible.

Audi has apparently been working on an innovative way to harness lost energy in the form of heat within conventional shock absorbers. The news comes by way of a conversation AutoExpress had with Audi’s Research and Development chief Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg. This means by replacing the standard shock absorber units with generator systems, the car will generate electricity as it bumps down the road.

“When working hard over a bumpy road, the dampers are perhaps 100 to 125 degrees.,” Hackenberg tells AutoExpress. “This energy is wasted as heat into the atmosphere.” Though specific details of the technology are still unknown, capturing that energy is likely to happen with a rotating generator unit inside the suspension dampers. When the suspension is compressed, the generator produces electricity.

That power can then be sent into a hybrid car ’s battery systems for powering the vehicle. Conversely, the power could be used more immediately to power ancillary systems like electronics and HVAC controls.

What’s more, Hackenberg hinted at the system’s implementation into performance cars as well. “Because we can send energy back into the damper, you will have an independently variable suspension.” This will be able to counter act body roll through tight corners.

As soon as the California T started revving its turbocharged, V-8 engine, we began to wonder how long will it take before Ferrari starts adding turbos across its entire lineup. Well, it appears all V-8s are set to receive forced induction over the next six years, as the Italians want to reduce their fleet CO2 emission by 20 percent by 2021.

That’s the word coming from Ferrari Powetrain Director Vittorio Dini, who said Maranello needs to reduce emissions by three percent each year and by 20 percent by 2021, Automotive News reports. To achieve this daring goal, the company will turbocharge its V-8 engines and develop hybrid technology for each V-12-powered supercar . Additionally, V-8 engine displacement is to decreased, meaning no unit larger than the current 3.9-liter V-8 will be available once Fezza retires the 4.5-liter unit.

Ferrari’s average CO2 emissions are currently about 270 grams of CO2 per kilometer. Ferrari is one of many manufacturer that obtained derogations from the European Environment Agency in recent years, alongside Aston Martin , Spyker , Koenigsegg , and Lotus . For the record, companies such as Fiat , Renault , and Peugeot average less than 120 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

It’s been only a month since the first report about the next-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class surfaced the Interwebz, and it appears the Germans have already began working on the redesigned sedan . The big news comes via our spy photographers stationed in Germany, who have spotted a strange-looking mule near the Nurburgring track.

We say "strange-looking" because the vehicle depicted in the images we just received in our inbox is a half-camouflaged C-Class that’s not exactly the compact sedan we’re already familiar with. It might look like a regular C-Class at first glance, but a closer inspection reveals the body is longer and wider than it should be. What’s more, the engine is stuffed under a longer hood and the wheel arches hidden under the swirly wrap are slightly beefier.

This leads us to believe we’re actually looking at the next-generation E-Class , which we expect to arrive for the 2017 model year. Although it’s at least two years away, we’re not at all surprised to see it on public streets already. The sedan is in for a brand-new platform and a host of new technologies, all of which require months, if not years, of development and testing.

The Audi Q3 , Ingolstadt’s answer to the BMW X1 , was unveiled in 2011 and launched for the 2012 model year in Europe. The smallest crossover of the Audi lineup — before the tiny Q1 arrives — won’t make it to the United States and Canada until next year . However, the Q3 won’t hang around too much in its current form, as Audi is already testing a facelifted version that’s set to arrive in 2016.

Unlike other Audi family members, the revised Q3 carries many exterior changes. The front end is completely reshaped and includes a redesigned grille and bumper, while the rear fascia received a set of new taillights. The crossover gets to keep its engines for 2016, but we expect minor power bumps across the entire lineup. Although the Q3 will carry two gasoline units and one diesel, only the range-topping, 2.0-liter TFSI will make it to the United States.

Introduced in 2006 as a 2007 model, the Ford Edge became an important player for Ford in the midsize crossover SUV category. Based on the CD3 platform shared with a number of other Blue Oval products, the Edge became a good seller, rolling over 130,000 units off dealer lots its first year alone. A refresh came for the Edge in 2011 with a reworked exterior that kept up with Ford’s then-current design language, as well as a refreshed interior. The basic bones of the CUV hadn’t really changed since 2007, but all that changes for 2015.

Rumors about Ford ’s planned revival of the Focus RS have been flying around since late 2013, with many sources claiming the hot hatch will return with as much as 330 horsepower on tap. As of 06/26/2014, the Focus RS is no longer a rumor, as our skilled paparazzi caught the upcoming rocket testing disguised as a Focus ST .

Don’t let the "ST" badge around back fool you, this mule is more than that, with plenty of details giving its true identity away. Look closer at the front end’s uncamouflaged area and you’ll notice a lip spoiler and a larger air intake in the lower apron. Of course, that’s not what the front bumper will look like in production form, but the intercooler seen in the spy shots is certainly different from the one fitted on the Focus ST .

The mule’s RS-ness becomes even more obvious around back, where a different exhaust pipe configuration peeks out underneath the bumper. Whereas the ST has a center-mounted, twin-pipe arrangement, the RS mule comes with separate tips placed toward the sides. Lastly, the camouflaged roof-mounted spoiler appears to sport a new design.

The next-generation BMW 7 Series has just been spied testing on the Nurburgring . Although it has yet to drop its camouflage, which makes sense considering the launch date is at least one year away, the upcoming 7 Series is shaping up into quite the nimble sedan .

Granted, the 7 Series is not the kind of car you’d expect to see on the ’Ring on a daily basis, but the Germans are planning to turn the full-size car into a "Green Hell" regular. BMW ’s intentions toward setting new standards in the luxury class with the 2016 7 Series are already a fact, so we might as well get used to seeing the sedan burn some rubber on the Nordschleife.

The next 7 Series will face stiff competition from the Audi A8 and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class , and track testing will only help improve the Bimmer’s driving dynamics. With BMW shaving about 450 pounds off its curb weight by means of lightweight construction and carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic parts, track testing is crucial in the process of establishing a well-balanced recipe for the road. The next 7 Series might be more of a driver’s BMW than any of its predecessors.

In 2006, Land Rover took a risk when it strayed from its off-road roots and released the Range Rover Sport. This was a direct shot at the luxurious and sporty SUVs from Bimmer and Mercedes. The debut Range Rover Sport had two 4.4-liter, V-8 engines available, a naturally aspirated one with 300 horses and 315 pound-feet of torque, and a supercharged one that pumped out 390 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. In 2010, The RR Sport moved onto a 5.0-liter V-8 that produced 375 horses in its base for and 510 ponies with a supercharged. In 2014, the Range Rover Sport underwent a full overhaul that resulted in a new, more aerodynamic body and a 3.0-liter V-6 that put down 340 horsepower replacing the base V-8. As we head toward the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 26, 2014, Land Rover has confirmed the most powerful Range Rover Sport yet, the SVR, will make sits debut during the festival.

If you want to drive something a little bit more powerful than the current Range Rover Sport , Land Rover may have the solution for you: a new SVR version that will be more powerful and more aggressive looking than the standard Range Rover Sport .

We expect the new Range Rover Sport SVR to arrive by the end of 2013, but before it arrives, we believe that Land Rover will release the Evoque RS , which will give us a good idea of what to expect from the Range Rover Sport SVR.

Rumors suggest that the new SVR version will add a more aggressive look with a unique front bumper design, larger air intakes and a revised rear bumper. We also expect to see some contrasting black highlights on the the wheels, roof and the side-view mirrors

Last time we caught a glimpse of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Estate , the beefed-up wagon was trotting around German streets with heavy camouflage covering most of its body. Fortunately, the lightning-fast grocery getter is now shedding some of its cladding as the Germans have begun testing its skills on the Nurburgring track.

Spotted by our photographers stationed on the Nordschleife, the wagon switched from using black, heavy camouflage to a lighter, swirly wrap. Although half of its body is in plain sight, the essential exterior details, most notably the front fascia and the rear apron, are still hidden.

Expect the C63 AMG Estate to break cover with a front fascia similar to that seen on the recently unveiled CLS63 AMG . The bumper will feature larger side intakes, a narrower center intake with a spoiler lip peeking out at the bottom. The new diamond-pattern grille and the Multibeam LED headlamps will also replace the older units for a enhanced look.
