The Genty Akylone is the first vehicle producted by Genty Automobile->ke4007, a small venture specialized in the design and conception of high-performance automobiles. Although not yet available to the public, the Akylone project promises to deliver a potent, track-ready supercar->ke177 that will rival state-of-the-art offerings from iconic brands such as Ferrari->ke252 and Bugatti->ke16.

Born from the will to create a state-of-the-art supercar devoted to the principles of "driving pleasure, high power and weight reduced to the minimum," the Akylone is said to become reality in a few years and Genty is burning the midnight oil to make it happen.

Two years after Genty Automobile introduced the Akylone in virtual form, the France-based start-up company has revealed an updated version of the supercar with even more efficacious performance figures. However, the vehicle is not yet ready to go into production as Genty still has to raise funds to fuel its ambitious project. It remains to be seen whether the Akylone will be more than just vaporware (like most similar start-up supercars) or become an actual rival for the Ferrari LaFerrari->ke4626, but until we find out more we will have a closer look at what it promises to bring to the table.

Exterior

Even though these images are only computer renderings, the Genty Akylone looks like a blend of many supercars available on the market. The swooping bonnet with strong creases and big headlamps with daytime running lamps make the Akylone look the part of a current-generation of supercars. With a low power-to-weight ratio being its goal, Genty used lots of expensive materials in the vehicles body, including carbon-fiber and aluminum. The strong roofline and side-view of the Akylone makes it worth a look. There is a huge rear diffuser to attract more eyeballs but it seems Genty did not made the car of appealing design, but with a strong power-to-weight ratio as mentioned earlier. The car also features a pair of scissor doors, but the overall look is not impressive.

Interior

The interior is plush but it seems that Genty is still working the inside of the vehicle. There is a huge display in the middle of the dashboard, which is likely touch-sensitive, and a console behind the steering wheel that we expect to display information from different driving modes. Being a design company, we expect some exclusive interior features from Genty’s first car.

Drivetrain

Genty decided not to meddle with drivetrain from other companies and designed its own engine. The twin turbo, 6.0-liter, V-8 engine produces more than 1,200 horsepower and 861 pound-feet of torque, both of which are impressive figures for a new brand. The rear wheels receive the power via a six-speed sequential gearbox that also features paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. Genty has managed to restrict the weight to just 2,429 pounds (1,100 kg) in a 42-to-58 front-to-rear ratio for better control. The company is not offering all-wheel drive yet, but do not be shocked to see one arrive as an option at some point.

Genty aims for a 0-to-62-mph sprint of only 2.7 seconds and an estimated top speed of 220 mph. Those are mind-boggling figures for a company that has yet to release any vehicles as of yet.

Prices

There is no pricing information yet, but rest assured, the model will be exclusive with only 15 coupe versions and 10 roadsters in Genty's plan. With something so rare, Genty would conveniently put a huge price-tag on it, likely in excess of $400,000.

Competitors

Ferrari LaFerrari

The limited-edition hybrid supercar from Ferrari is one of the competitors that we consider a rival to the Akylone’s performance. The LaFerrari features a 6.3-liter V-12 with an electric motor mated to a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission and comes with 950 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of twist on tap. The car weighs around the same weight as the Akylone and has a lethal power-to-weight ratio too! All said, the LaFerrari sprints to 60 mph in around 2.7 seconds, tops out at over 217 mph and we expect it to cost a ton. The only hang up is that name... "The Ferrari" ugh...

Bugatti Veyron

The Veyron has been in this game since 2005. If Genty Akylone manages to consummate all the figures they have showed on paper, it would give the mighty Bugatti a run for its money. The Veyron carries an 8.0-liter, W-16 engine producing a maximum of 1,184 horsepower. This massive powerhouse allows the jelly bean-mobile to hit highway speeds in just 2.7 seconds and top out at 252 mph. For this power and "unique" look, the Veyron will relive your bank account of more than $2 million.

Conclusion

Being a startup company, Genty should have made the overall design a little more aggressive. The current design seems to be cut-copy-paste from supercars already on the market. Even though Genty has surely left no stone unturned to extract the amazing power-to-weight figure, it would have been more inviting to see the car in a better form visually.

Because Gentry limited it to a small production number, we do expect a massive price tag on the Akylone, but it will be competitive with its rivals in the pricing department.

Many startup manufacturers have come and gone, but it seems that Genty is determined to succeed in this market for a long time. Only time will tell if this small fish can survive in a big pond with even bigger fish.
