Pontiac’s Torrent was not exactly the best fit to share the platform of the Chevrolet Equinox SUV. So for the new Equinox, the SUV-friendly GMC get the variation with the Terrain. Prices for the 2010 Terrain range from $24,995 for the SLE1 model and go up to $29,995 for the SLT2 model.
Just like it’s Equinox twin, the GMC Terrain will be offered with a choice of two engines: a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 182 hp (estimated 30 mpg) and a more powerful 3.0-liter V6 engine with 264 hp. Both engines will be mated to a six-speed automatic transmissions, and will be available in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.
While on paper this may seem like a purely badge-engineered version of the Equinox, there is more to the Terrain. Although mechanically similar, the Equinox still goes for the look of a Lexus RX 350, the Terrain is going after a tougher truck-like market.

Top Speed had the pleasure of trying out a greener option for that other necessary item in any weekend racers garage, a work truck. Sure its nice to have a classic Ferrari or a an all out race car in your garage, but what good are they if you cannot get them to an appropriate environment. That is where our GMC Sierra 2WD Hybrid Crew Cab comes into play, this pick up can haul up to 6,100 pounds of trailer and seat six individuals inside the cab. Aside from the nice touches like the 18 inch chrome rims and larger than life front grill, the Sierra Hybrid has the benefit of being an alternatively fueled vehicle.
The full sized trucks 2-Mode Hybrid/Electric power train is tuned to get as much as 21 MPH when driving around town, impressive for any vehicle that weighs over 5,000 pounds. Don’t let the size discourage you, the Sierra Hybrid is easy to drive and the power adjustable front seat allows the driver to find the perfect vantage point.
The truck uses a combination of an electric module and a 6.0 Liter Chevrolet small block to make 332 HP, but you most likely won’t have to use much of those ponies, we found ourselves driving the Sierra around on electric only power most of the time, negating the need for any of the eight pistons. It was nice to know that they were there when we needed them like when passing on the highway or pulling a heavy load. One thing was for certain, the GMC Sierra Hybrid is working hard to give trucks a good name again.

The new 2010 GMC Terrain will go on sale in September with a price starting from $24,995 for the front-wheel drive model and from $26,745 for the all-wheel drive model.
The new crossover will be offered with a choice of two engines: SLE1 powered by a 2.4L direct-injection engine that delivers 182 hp and has a fuel economy of 32 mpg and the SLT2 powered by a 3.0-liter V6 engine with 264 hp. THE SLT2 features leather seating, a premium Pioneer sound system, a power liftgate, sunroof and a special chrome appearance package, starts at $29,995.

One of the most iconic cars in the history of the U.S. is packing its bags and is heading East, well past the Statue of Liberty, leaving the East Coast behind. This pony car is going on a trip to visit the wealthiest, most car crazed place in the world.
The vehicle that is making its way to the Middle East is none other than the Chevrolet Camaro. It is safe to assume that if the Camaro could afford a smile it’d have one stretching from ear to ear, thanks in large part to the monstrous highways found in the region, as well as the bargain basement prices of fuel.
And we’re guessing that the feeling is well-reciprocated by those exceedingly rich Middle Easterners who can finally get their well-manicured hands on one of the most popular modern day muscle cars in the world. The Camaro’s popularity, which needed no additional boost, reached new heights thanks to its performance as Bumblebee in the Transformers franchise. The Hollywood buzz only added to the car’s long and illustrious history as an American automotive icon, and it’s a safe bet to say that order forms will be flying off salesmen’s desks as soon as the Camaro lands in the desert.

We recently received a GMC Sierra Hybrid pick-up to try out in our Top Speed test fleet. First thing first, this truck is big; from the Hybrid two-mode badges, to the front bench, everything is huge. One of the best features of this Sierra is the lack of Hybrid badging everywhere. The Sierra is toned down compared to the Chevrolet full size hybrids. The Tahoe Hybrid has the word written in at least six places throughout the truck’s body and glass panels, the Sierra on the other hand has a pair of simple badges on the front fenders (thankfully they don’t have the gaudy Hybrid grills from the Escalade) and another toned down "two-mode Hybrid" badge on the tailgate.
Powered by a 6.0 Liter Vortec V8, the Sierra has plenty of get up and go. The only thing we have yet to test is the full sized pick-up’s towing ability, but with the added torque of the electric motor, that shouldn’t be a problem.
The Sierra hybrid is the perfect fleet vehicle. It has seating for up to six, lots of storage capacity and because it’s a hybrid, cities and businesses will be open to all sorts of tax breaks. With the way that new car sales are going, anyone who wishes to have a fleet of Sierra hybrids has good reason to bargain.

Second GMC model to make its world debut at the New York Auto Show is the Yukon Denali Hybrid. The new model join the Yukon Hybrid introduced in 2008 and will go on sale in May at a price starting from $59,185 (2WD) and $62,030 (4WD).
The Yukon Denali Hybrid is powered by GM’s 6.0 liter Vortec V-8 engine with fuel-saving Active Fuel Management, late intake valve closing and variable valve timing technologies. The engine delivers 332 hp and a peak torque of 367 lb.-ft. It has a fuel economy of 21 mpg in city driving.
The V8 engine is combined with two lightweight electric motors packaged in the transmission; an electronic brake emulator that provides blended regenerative braking; electric power steering and an electric air conditioning compressor.

June is traditionally a robust month for auto sales in the U.S., but this time it marks a 17-year low according to the Chicago Tribune. Figures are particularly down for American carmakers. Reports indicate that General Motors’ sales were down 18%, Ford lost 28%, and Chrysler slid by 36%. This is not isolated to domestic car makers, as Toyota’s sales also lost 21% and Nissan was down 18%.
Although sales numbers aren’t sexy, they show a real gauge of the buying public. Despite offering a buffet of discounts ranging from employee pricing to gas discounts, buyers stayed away in droves. If the buying public doesn’t respond soon, this could be the beginning of brand consolidation. For instance, auto industry analyst Erich Merkle of IRN Inc., suggested that GM may not only dump Hummer, but also look to eliminate GMC because all of its products are redundant.
The biggest bright spots were Honda and Volkswagen who had approximate June gains of 14% and 5% respectively.
