The 2013 Essen Motor Show has just concluded, giving us a sense of what’s going on in the European tuner car scene. Manhart Racing had very special car on display, much like other tuners who had gathered at the annual exposition. But, before we come to that, let us give you a brief background of the donor car.

The BMW M135i has captured the imagination of every auto enthusiast on this planet. A small, affordable hatchback with a pokey little in-line six-cylinder engine developing loads of power and bucket full of adrenaline.

Manhart has taken the M135i and turned it into a rear-wheel drive drift maniac. How have they done it and why are we so excited about it? Well, we think 400 horsepower would answer all your questions.

Yes, this tiny BMW M135i now produces 403 PS (397 horsepower) and 561 newton meters (413 pound-feet) of torque from its six-cylinder engine. That’s 63 PS more than the standard car. So, you have 403 horses driving the 19 inch OZ Ultraleggera wheels. What could go wrong, apart from lots of tire smoke.

Mercedes-Benz B-Class

We last caught the revised version of the Mercedes B-Class testing back in September, and it looks like Mercedes has taken it out for another testing session, this time on the roads of Germany.

As you can see, only the front and rear don light camouflage, which means that these are the parts that Mercedes is likely updating. We certainly were not expecting anything major from this update, which is clear from the camo, but this revision should be enough to keep the B-Class fresh for the next few years.

Included in this revision will be a new headlight and taillight design, a new grille, and new front and rear bumpers. You should also expect some minor improvements inside the cabin and under the hood. The under-hood updates will likely focus on improving the fuel economy figures.

We expect to see the revised Mercedes B-Class unveiled in early 2014.

BMW has been on the forefront of research and development of Eco-friendly mobility for the future. The company has invested heavily in cleaner, more efficient propulsion technologies. The recently launched ’i’ sub-brand has been the result of years of development in order to provide futuristic, efficient and Eco-friendly products at affordable costs.

The "electric car " as we know it, has been evolving at a rapid pace, and with advancement in battery technology and "wonder materials," like carbon-fiber, we could be on the brink of a steady switch to electric mobility. BMW is convinced that electric cars are the future of motoring and will concentrate their efforts in this direction.

Board member of development at BMW , Herbert Diess, was speaking to Autocar on this subject. Electrification, according to him, is imminent and fueling the growth of the electric car would be newer, more stringent emission regulations. The automotive sector is among the most regulated businesses today, and government policies would play a major role in deciding the future course of the automotive scene. Europe would be the epicenter for this as has been the case since medieval times

Having said that, there has been no change in the BMW philosophy of "sheer driving pleasure." Until recently, electric cars’ lack of appeal and character, along with a high asking price, had kept the common public away from the idea of owning one. The performance-crazy half of the populous have seen the potential of the electric car and have slowly began to accept the idea.

The BMW i8 is an example of a performance-oriented electric car concept. It combines numerous futuristic technologies into a highly desirable and unique automobile with BMW driving DNA. Same is the case with the BMW i3 , albeit on the other side of the spectrum.

European emission regulations call for reducing carbon and particulates to 95 g/km and meeting these standards would call for more electric-drive technologies. Stricter regulations would mean Europeans would most likely be the first to see these technologies in daily use. Already, modern BMW cars feature a combination of hybrid drive and conventional engines. A point will be reached when further reduction in CO2 emission would be difficult. This would eventually require us to shift to 100 percent electric drive.

The BMW i8 has shown the way and future BMW models would be fitted with entry-level electrification. Plug-in hybrids and hybrids would soon become the norm dictated by emission regulations. Full electrification would be the ultimate goal as we try reduce our carbon footprints down to acceptable levels with respect to the global environment.

On the surface, this may not look anything close to an attractive special edition model, but Opel , together with MotoGP star Valentino Rossi and designer Aldo Drudi, is attesting that there’s more to this Opel Adam than meets the eye.

For one, the model has been specifically dubbed the Adam & Vale for Charity, a one-off creation that was designed by no less than Rossi and Drudi themselves. A lot was put into the design of this particular Adam to make it stand out from the rest and both Rossi and Drudi put in the time to accomplish that.

The custom paint finish on the body of this Adam was derived using MotoGP as inspiration. The choice of colors — hints of silver, grey and lime green — were intentionally used to evoke the spitting image, or at least, resemblance to the world’s premier motorcycle racing series. Inside, the colorful interior cabin was equipped with Dainese leather seats with a style inspiration taken from a motorcycle suit, similar to the ones that Rossi uses when he’s out racing all over the world.

More importantly, the Adam & Vale for Charity is as its name suggest: a car that will be auctioned for charity this coming December with the proceeds benefiting the Meyer Children’s Hospital Foundation.

To celebrate the opening of the DS World Paris on November 27th, Citroen prepared the special-edition DS3 that it dubbed the DS World Paris. The model will be displayed exclusively in Paris and will be limited to only 15 units.

The model was inspired by Art Deco architecture, and it reflects the French artisanal expertise. It is coated exclusively in matte ash grey combined with a Trinitario brown for the roof and wing mirror shells. Another special feature on this special DS3 is the new set of 17-inch wheels with a unique diamond effect.

For the interior, Citroen added seats wrapped in Trinitario brown Nappa leather with beige stitching. Citroen also made use of the same leather for the dashboard insert, gear lever handle and central armrest. Each unit also gets a specially numbered "DS World Paris" badge crafted in Burgundy oak.

There is no mention of what powers this DS3, nor does Citroen mention a price or release date.

Who knew a special-edition Volkswagen would be a popular car for aftermarket programs. Somehow, though, the Polo R WRC has managed to attract not just one tuner, but two.

A few days ago, we showed you a program that came from B&B . Today, it’s ABT Sportsline’s turn, and while not exactly as comprehensive as what B&B did, ABT Sportsline’s take on the Polo R WRC is no less impressive, especially in the way it was able to take advantage of the sports hatch’s already impressive setup and fine-tune it without completely going overboard.

A new set of 18-inch, DR alloy wheels are prominently added to the sports hatch while the interior gets a few noticeable upgrades as well.

ABT Sportsline badging was also added to the grille and rear, enhancing the appeal of the Polo R WRC by ensuring people know that a real tuner worked on this bad boy.

The tuner hasn’t announced any performance upgrades to the vehicle, but safe to say, the 290-horsepower output coming out of its 1.6-liter, TSI engine is enough to enjoy the aesthetic and performance spoils of the Polo R WRC.

Next week we’ll have two major auto shows that most of you likely already know about: one in Los Angeles and one in Tokyo, Japan. There is, however, a smaller show that is coming up in China, and that it the 2013 Guangzhou Motor Show . Despite its relatively small size, Lexus has chosen this show to debut the updated Lexus CT 200h .

With just a few days before its official debut, which occurs on November 21st, Lexus has unveiled the first details and a few images of the revised hybrid hatchback.

According to Lexus, the 2014 CT 200h will adopt the signature Lexus spindle grille, newly designed alloy wheels and a revised rear appearance with a "more horizontal structure."

Lexus didn’t give up any of the details on its powertrain, but we expect to see the same hybrid system, with the possibility of a few more horsepower and some fuel consumption improvements. This means you can expect to see a 1.8-liter gasoline-powered four-pot with a pair of electric motors that combine to put down 134 horsepower at least.

Updated 11/29/2013: Lexus announced prices for the 2014 CT 200h, which will go on sale in late January or early February 2014. Prices will start from the same $32,050 as the 2013 model, plus processing and handling fee of $910.

The 2013 Essen Motor Show is just around the corner and it looks like ABT Sportsline is ready to impress the world with all its upgrades specially developed for the German tuning show. One of the packages it developed for Essen is based on the seventh generation Golf GTI and tries to discover the dark side of the car.

In order to do so, the 2.0 liter engine was updated with an ABT Power kit that increases the final output to a total of 300 horsepower - up from the standard 220 horsepower. As a result the GTI now goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.8 seconds and up to a top speed of 160 mph.

The car rides on new 20-inch alloy wheels combined with new sport stabilizers and an ABT height adjustable suspension kit.

It began life as a humble Skoda Octavia , but destiny had different plans for it. The Romanian owner of this car had a wild, almost crazy idea of building what could be the fastest Octavia on the planet.

no need to mention that it is fast, as that is pretty obvious, but we do have to mention that it is fast enough to beat a Nissan GT-R . Mind you, the GT-R is one of the fastest-accelerating, all-wheel drive road cars on sale today. The Skoda in question also happens to have an interesting all-wheel-drive system under its skin.

Ghita Silviu is the Romanian man behind this creation, and he started off with an off-the-shelf Skoda Octavia with front-mounted, transverse engine. This 2.0-liter TFSI engine from a Golf GTI puts out a healthy 200 horsepower in the standard car, but in this example, it churns out a whopping 460 horsepower.

That’s not all, folks. Where the rear seats once lived, there is yet another engine powering the rear wheels. This is the same 2.0-liter TFSI, but with a slightly less intense 330 horsepower. This second engine has a standalone intake, cooling and exhaust systems. The combined output of the two engines is — wait for it — 790 horsepower!

The videos attached with this article prove the fact that this tricked-out Skoda is quicker off the line than a Nissan GT-R. How embarrassing would it feel to be beaten by a Skoda if you happen to be at the wheel of Godzilla, which hits 60 mph in just 2.9 ticks. This monster of an Octavia completes the sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds. That’s Bugatti Veyron -like performance. Additionally, the Skoda blitzes past 120 mph in nine seconds. Unfortunately, once off the line, we can’t make out who crosses the quarter-mile marker first, so that needs to be investigated as the videos fail to prove the GT-R fell to the mighty Skoda.
