Hummer H3T Storm Chaser

hummer h3t storm chaser picture

Have you ever wondered how meteorological scientists study tornados? Well this is an instance where the movies didn’t lie to you. Just like in the film Twister, tornado researchers drive vehicles directly into the path of the storm and release “pods” that take scientific measurements and capture data for the researchers to study.

Real life twister hunter Dr. Joshua Wurman was looking for a vehicle that he could use for the VORTEX2 tornado research study, a vehicle that could withstand heavy rain, hail, flash flooding and washed out roads. What he chose was the HUMMER H3T to be the lead vehicle in the largest tornado study ever conducted.

The elevated ground clearance and ability to ford up to a 24 inch flood made the H3T the perfect vehicle for the job. Dr. Wurman was quoted as saying that “we can send the Hummer into places where we haven’t sent our other probe vehicles before.”

You can follow the Hummer Storm Chaser at the link below for updates and a twister inspired blog.

HUMMER H3 V8 Kompressor by Geiger

We like Hummers for getting through the snow or to pull a boat, but we usually leave the speed records to other GM products like the Corvette. The tuner Geiger seems to have a different view for this brick on wheels and is now offering a supercharger package for the Hummer H3 Alpha. It takes the 5.3-Liter V8 and raised the horsepower from 300 to 423.

Just so drivers have a fighting chance at not killing themselves or others, Geiger also offers six-piston 380x35mm disc brakes. There’s also a suspension pack for extra handling at speed, and Continental Cross Contact rubber to give extra on-road grip to the 4883 lbs. truck.

Hummer H3 gets wooden wagon wheels

Wild West is here, in this Hummer H3. Hummer always wants to instill the image of off-road toughness, and what better way to do that then by giving it the "covered wagon" look of wooden wagon wheels. This Hummer is actually an exhibit that will be parked on Old Burlington Road as part of Zoo Art Fair in Central London.

Artist Matthew Harrison used the wooden wheels to create a sculpture that he says is a mixture of art, engineering and motoring. To our untrained eye, we’ll just consider it very old school.

2009 HUMMER H3T prices announced

Even if GM is considering selling Hummer , they needed to do a final attempt of bringing back the brand to its previous success. In September the 2009 H3T will go on sale at a price starting at $31,495.

Full-size remote control Hummer H3

This ultimate toy has been created by engineer Dr James Brighton from Cranfield University. All the work has been made in about a month, and of course the engineer said he had a lot of fun during the process. Why is not that a surprise?

The results are clear – all controllers will be amazed by the handling ability – the best any radio controlled vehicle has had to date. The vehicle is capable of climbing a 407mm vertical wall, traverse a 40% side slope and operate in up to 610mm of water – imagine the fun”

Well bad news is that the toy won’t be available for sale! Damn! Might have been an interested toy for your kids!
