Even if GM is considering selling Hummer , they needed to do a final attempt of bringing back the brand to its previous success. In September the 2009 H3T will go on sale at a price starting at $31,495.
The H3T is offered in four trim levels, including five-cylinder models and the popular, V-8-powered H3T Alpha edition.
The standard version is powered by a Vortec 3.7L I-5 with dual overhead cams and variable valve timing. This inline five-cylinder engine offers an excellent combination of power and efficiency, delivering 242 hp at 5600 rpm and 242 lb.-ft. of torque at 4600 rpm. The engine is mated with a a five-speed manual transmission or an available four-speed, electronically controlled automatic.
The H3T Alpha will be powered by 5.3 liter V8 engine that delivers 300 hp and a peak torque of 320 lbs-ft. An aluminum cylinder block is used with the H3 Alpha’s engine. It helps reduce overall mass and maintains a more desirable front-to-rear weight balance. The engine is mated with a Hydra-Matic 4L60 electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission.

June is traditionally a robust month for auto sales in the U.S., but this time it marks a 17-year low according to the Chicago Tribune. Figures are particularly down for American carmakers. Reports indicate that General Motors’ sales were down 18%, Ford lost 28%, and Chrysler slid by 36%. This is not isolated to domestic car makers, as Toyota’s sales also lost 21% and Nissan was down 18%.
Although sales numbers aren’t sexy, they show a real gauge of the buying public. Despite offering a buffet of discounts ranging from employee pricing to gas discounts, buyers stayed away in droves. If the buying public doesn’t respond soon, this could be the beginning of brand consolidation. For instance, auto industry analyst Erich Merkle of IRN Inc., suggested that GM may not only dump Hummer, but also look to eliminate GMC because all of its products are redundant.
The biggest bright spots were Honda and Volkswagen who had approximate June gains of 14% and 5% respectively.

Even if Hummer’s sales were down 60% this June, GM launched a new special edition for the European market. Maybe the last one before the faith of Hummer will be decided.
The HUMMER H3 Sensation offers all the features that are standard for the H3 3.7 automatic, on which the model is based. These features include a Hydra-Matic automatic transmission, cruise control, full underbody protection, fog lamps, a swing gate-mounted full-size spare wheel and StabiliTrak Stability Enhancement System.

And maybe is true! GM announced they will focus on building small cars and close four truck and SUV plants.
"Our greatest concern is the unprecedented rise in oil prices," said GM Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner, speaking before the automaker’s annual meeting in Delaware. "We believe it is, by and large, permanent. We view the near term environment ... with considerable caution.
GM will phase out production at four SUV and truck assembly plants: Oshawa, Ontario, in 2009; Moraine, Ohio, in 2010 or sooner; Janesville, Wis., by the end of 2009 and Toluca, Mexico, by the end of this year.
And while customers ask more and more for sedans such as the redesigned Malibu and crossovers such as the Buick Enclave, there;s no point for huge cars like HUMMER. Wagoner announced that GM is considering the possible sale of its Hummer brand.
For the future Wagoner announced the all-new next generation Chevrolet compact car program. It will be better-equipped, fuel efficient and produced at GM’s Lordstown plant in starting in 2010. Also in 2010 GM will unveil the replacement for the subcompact Chevy Aveo and a new engine module to be produced in Flint.
HUMMER off-road racing teams are making final preparations to demonstrate their off-road prowess on opposite sides of the globe this weekend. The competition begins with Team HUMMER’s entry in Best in the Desert Racing Series Terrible’s 250 at Primm, April 19, and concludes with Robby Gordon Motorsport’s Team Dakar USA’s HUMMER H3 race trucks competing in the inaugural Dakar Series Central Europe Rally, April 20-26.
The Central Europe Rally, the first in ASO’s Dakar Series, will run from Budapest, Hungary, into Romania and back to Lake Balaton, Hungary. The course will consist of a 3000 km varied and technical route providing Team Dakar USA an opportunity to demonstrate the agility, handling and suspension of the race H3s.
Making their Hungarian debut, the Team Dakar USA purpose-built H3 will be piloted by the team of Robby Gordon/Andy Grider (USA). In 2007, Gordon and Grider finished 8 th overall and became the first American team to win a stage in the Dakar Rally.

GM announced that by the end of 2010 all the Hummer vehicles will feature biofuel capability. Recently a dealership called Classic Chevrolet / Hummer opened public biofuel pumps and GM revealed a 2009 H2 SUT, which was E85 capable, described by the public who first saw it, as a derivate of the HX concept.
The biofuel station called Classic Clean Fuels, located in Dallas, Texas, offers biofuel at nine dedicated pumps which cost over $500,000. The dealership announced that it will deliver E85 capable vehicles with an extra tank of E85 . “We sell a lot of trucks capable of running on alternative fuels like E85, and even though there has been some increased availability, we saw a need for more E85 pumps where drivers could fill up” said Charles Martin, general manager at Classic Chevrolet / Hummer.
This ultimate toy has been created by engineer Dr James Brighton from Cranfield University. All the work has been made in about a month, and of course the engineer said he had a lot of fun during the process. Why is not that a surprise?
