Hyundai will unveil at the Geneva Motor Show the 3-door version of the i20 hatchback (not currently sold in the U.S.) The i20 is placed between the successful i10 and i30 models and is built on the same platform as the 5-door model.

The best sold model will be the one powered by a .2-litre petrol engine – dubbed ’Kappa’. The new, all-alloy unit combines miserly fuel consumption with low CO2 emissions to produce a compelling package with exceptionally low running costs.

Kappa is the latest example of the company’s expertise in developing lightweight, low-NVH, super-efficient engines. With a displacement of just 1,248cc, Kappa unit develops an impressive 78PS and a class-leading torque figure of 119Nm endowing the i20 with responsive acceleration and excellent driveability.

According to Autocar, Hyundai is preparing a hot diesel version (is that an oxymoron?) of the new Hyundai i20 hatchback sold in Europe. This new version will be powered by Hyundai’s 1.6-liter diesel engine that can deliver around 200bhp. The "GTI" i20 should make the 0-60mph sprint in less than 8 seconds and will hit a top speed of 130 mph.

Hyundai is trying to attract younger buyers with for good performance while keeping sub-120g/km CO2 emissions. It would be a direct and potentially cheaper rival for another Euro-only car, the Skoda Fabia RS.

Hyundai will unveil at the Paris Auto Show the i20 that is set to go on sale at the beginning of 2009. Next to it the company will also display the i20 i-blue concept, the ix55 SUV and a hybrid concept version of the Santa Fe.

Based on the all-new i20, Hyundai’s latest i-blue car concept incorporates a number of modifications to reduce emissions. The i20 i-blue concept is fitted with Hyundai’s all new 1.4 CRDi diesel engine, which produces 90 hp.
