2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo "Music 2.0" by Re:Mix Lab

Some people just love loud stereos in their car. It doesn’t matter if they’ve already got a doozy of an audio system installed, they still prefer something that could be described as vertigo inducing.

Korean automaker and party group Re:Mix Lab have the answer for those people’s needs. Even better, it’s coming to the 2012 SEMA Auto Show.

In what has become somewhat of a yearly collaboration, the two companies have built a sick program for the Hyundai Veloster Turbo that comes packed with an audio system that could make your ears bleed.

Called the Veloster "Music 2.0," aptly named as the successor of the 2011 Veloster program, this customized Hyundai sports hatch is arguably more audacious than what we saw in 2011. The flashy chrome finish is eye-catching in its own right, but once you add the new LED headlight set-up, the new set of wheels, and the lowered suspension into the mix, well, it’s a recipe that only Hyundai and Re:Mix Lab can cook up.

The true star of this program, albeit one that only a specific group of people will undoubtedly enjoy, is the motorized DJ station at the back and the addition of about as many speakers as your ears could possibly handle.

Re:Mix Lab says that the audio set-up on the Veloster Music 2.0 can be heard for blocks.

After seeing what they did, we’re not ones to disagree.

2012 Hyundai Veloster Turbo SE

Hyundai UK has announced that the new Veloster Turbo SE will be available on the market starting September 24th at a starting price of £21,995 ($34,800). The model will be offered in a standard White Crysta exterior paint, but an optional Phantom Black (Pearl) and a Matte Grey finish can be ordered for £445 ($704 at the current rates) and £525 ($830 at the current rates), respectively. A tilt and slide Panoramic sunroof is also available for £950 ($1,500).

The new Veloster Turbo SE will be offered with a 1.6-liter T-GDI turbocharged engine that delivers a total of 184 HP and 195 lb-ft of torque. Mated to a standard six-speed manual transmission, the model will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 8.4 seconds and up to a top speed of 133 mph.

On the front end, the Veloster gets a new front bumper, radiator grille, and front fog lights, while the rear adds a revised bumper, a new fog lamp design, round twin exhausts, and diffuser. The car sits on a new set of standard 18-inch alloy wheels with chrome inserts. For the interior, Hyundai is offering redesigned leather seats with grey panels, Hyundai’s 7-inch touchscreen satellite navigation system, and, of course, "Turbo" logos embossed on the driver’s and passenger’s seats.

2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo R-Spec

Hyundai’s sporty little coupe - the Veloster - was an ace in the hole in terms of design, but its power left much to be desired, so the South Korean manufacturer took it a step further by offering the new Veloster Turbo. The new Turbo comes with a 201 HP 1.6-liter turbocharged-gasoline direct injection engine, but this may only be a starting point for future power boosts.

According to MotorAuthority, a Hyundai insider revealed that the company is considering an even more powerful Veloster. This future model will feature a stiffer chassis and a revised suspension with mechanically adjustable dampers, components that many thought would have been added to the Veloster Turbo. The insider let it be known that the lack of changes to the chassis and suspension for the Turbo model were a part of a grand scheme to offer up a more powerful Veloster variant. If produced, this hotter Veloster will more than likely end up with an updated version of the current 1.6-liter turbo.

There is not an official name for the future Veloster as of right now, but taking inspiration from its bigger brother - the Hyundai Coupe - it is believed that the new model will be named the Hyundai Veloster Turbo R-Spec.

Expect to see the Hyundai Veloster Turbo R-Spec launched sometime in the next few months.

2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo

The 2012 Hyundai Veloster made its debut at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show and it warmed our hearts in terms of looks, but its 138 HP leaking out of the Gamma 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine chilled us to the bone. Shouldn’t a "sports car" have a little more push that that? Hyundai’s answer to that question came to the 2012 Detroit Auto Show when they unveiled the new Veloster Turbo - a model powered by a new 1.6-liter turbocharged-gasoline direct injection engine that delivers a total of 201 HP.

Next to a more powerful engine, the new Veloster Turbo will be distinguished by a bigger, bolder hexagonal front grille, sculpted side skirts, and new dynamic rear bumper with prominent diffuser vents. The car sits on a new set of 18" gray wheels with chrome inserts. For the interior, Hyundai has added full leather seats with the word "Turbo" stitched into the seatbacks and an exclusive Supervision Cluster that offers the driver information in a larger, clearer, and more interactive format.

UPDATE 06/04/2012: Despite previous rumors, the Veloster Turbo won’t be priced under $20k. Hyundai has announced today prices for the new Veloster Turbo: $21,950 for the Veloster Turbo equipped with a 6-Speed Manual Transmission and $22,950 for the 6-Speed Automatic version.

2012 Hyundai Veloster "Motorcity" Rally Car

Rhys Millen Racing will be entering a new season of the Global RallyCross Championship with a new partner in tow. Oh, and they’re also bringing along the Hyundai Veloster with them to build on last year’s fourth place finish.

RMR is building on a new partnership with Disney for the 2012 Global RallyCross Championship and they’re set to compete this season with a unique Veloster Rally Car that comes with a specially wrapped livery featuring Disney’s new racing-themed TV series, Motorcity.

Just in case you don’t know, Disney scored huge on the Cars franchise and they’re branching out with a spin-off TV series. So what better way to promote a racing themed TV series than to have it promoted on an actual race car. That’s exactly what RMR and Disney were looking for when they tied up to plaster the Veloster rally car with the Motorcity livery.

As far as the car itself is concerned, the number 12 Veloster will be powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers an impressive 500 horsepower and is mated to an Xtrac six-speed sequential transmission. In addition, the car will also carry a new custom suspension and a new set of 18" HRE wheels wrapped in 245/40-18 Hankook Racing tires. Stopping power comes from 14" Alcon brake rotors and six piston Alcon calipers.

The Motorcity-wrapped RMR Veloster Rally Car will be driven by Stephan Verdier, who is personally looking to improve on last year’s fourth place finish. Despite having one of the coolest cars on the grid, Verdier will have his hands full this season competing against some pretty staunch rally heavyweights, including Tanner Foust, Ken Block, and Travis Pastrana.

At the very least, though, he’s going to have an entire demographic of kids rooting him on.

Super Bowl Ad: Hyundai Veloster Turbo can outrun a cheetah

With all due respect to Audi’s "Vampires" commercial for the S7, the early favorite for funniest auto Super Bowl commercial now belongs to Hyundai and their new ad for the Veloster Turbo.

Titled "Cheetah," the ad features the Veloster Turbo preparing to race a cheetah, considered the fastest animal in the world with a 0-60 mph time of just three seconds. But, apparently there are still some cars that the cheetah can’t outrun and in this particular commercial, it’s the 201-horsepower Veloster Turbo.

As soon as the cheetah realizes that outrunning the Veloster Turbo wasn’t an option, it turns its attention towards its handler. Apparently, the nimble feline wasn’t too enthralled with its handler’s attempt to have it race against the high-powered Hyundai sports hatch.

So as a way of "paying back" the handler’s lack of foresight, the jungle cat decided to chase the dude and jump on him, doing so amidst all the girlish shrieks coming from the petrified handler.

Check out the commercial and prepare to laugh out loud. Repeatedly.

Video: Hyundai Veloster Rally Car knows how to play golf

We all know that Rhys Millen is adept in the art of rally car racing. What we didn’t know was that he has one hell of a golf swing too.

Well, not really. He did get some help from his trusty Hyundai Veloster Rally Car.

This video, which was shot at the Purangi Golf & Country Club in New Zealand, will show you just how a rally car can be of great help to a golfer’s game. Not only can it take the place - and be a whole lot cooler - than a golf cart, but anytime you need any help in sinking a hole-in-one, the Veloster can do the job for you.

Needless to say, you’d be hard-pressed to find a golf course in the world that will allow a Veloster anywhere near the playing grounds, but if it did happen, you can at least know what to do with it, right?

Check out the video and be treated to some bonus outtakes after the fact.

2011 Hyundai Veloster Rally Car

January’s 2011 Detroit Auto Show brought with it the production version of the long rumored Veloster, but Hyundai is using the Chicago Auto Show to display a rally version of the car.

The Veloster Rally Car is powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine mated to an Xtrac six-speed sequential transmission. Making giant leaps across the rally road will be made easy with the engine’s 500hp and all of that power comes with an estimated 40mpg.

This particular version of the Veloster will make its rally debut at the 2011 U.S. Rallycross Championship Series. In fact, three Velosters will be racing during the Rallycross; one will be driven by Rhys Millen, the second will be piloted by rally champion Marcus Dodd and world record freestyle motorbike rider Robbie Maddison, and the third will be driven by to-be-announced celebrity drivers.

Update 02/07/2011: Hyundai has revealed the Rally version of the Veloster coupe today at the Chicago Auto Show.

UPDATE 01/25/2012: Hyundai has unveiled a new commercial for the Veloster Rally Car that shows Join Rhys Millen and crew as they play around with the Veloster Rally Car on the golf course. Enjoy!
