Of all the offerings Hyundai->ke201 is bringing to the 2012 SEMA Auto Show->ke216, this Genesis Coupe R-Spec, called "Mad Panda," is arguably the strangest of them all.

Don't get us wrong, it's strange in a good way, because we find it difficult to actually mess up an awesome sports car like the Genesis Coupe R-Spec. What really gets us is that the name actually fits the look of the car; this Genesis Coupe R-Spec really does look like a mad panda.

To their credit, Hyundai went off the rail with the comprehensive enhancements on the exterior, interior, and performance departments so that's always a huge plus in our eyes.

In the end, we're not casting any aspersions here because there's an endearing, albeit a little gimmicky, quality to the "Mad Panda." However, in the end, this is still a Hyundai Genesis R-Spec under all that garb, and that's more than fine us.

Exterior

The exterior enhancements made to this Genesis Coupe R-Spec includes plenty of new aftermarket components. Diamond HID headlights and fog lights, which also include diamond LED light bulbs, comprise what certainly looks like the eyes of a panda that isn't too happy about not getting enough eucalyptus. The new grilles from Luxon also strikes us as the angry mouth of the oftentimes lovable creature. From there, added components like JP Kustoms diamond puddle lights, KDM black housing headlights, M&S fog light surrounds, an ARK C-FX carbon fiber trunk, and Piaa horns and wipers, complete the look of the Genesis R-Spec's exterior.

Interior

The apparent novelty of the sports coupe's exterior wasn't lost on Hyundai. So for the interior, they decided to be a little more serious with their modifications, fitting the Genesis R-Spec with a number of racing components. Sparco is a prominent contributor, with the chrono seats, the speed ware harness bar, seat brackets, and seat belts all coming from the noted racing supplier. In addition to Sparco, the interior also received a Speedware tank plates harness mounting system, a suede headliner and an LED footwelllighting from JP Kustoms, a custom huge pod from Atom Design & Development, and a five-piece floor mat set from KDM.

Performance

The Mad Panda Genesis R-Spec's performance components also received significant upgrades from Hyundai, beginning with a Haltech Platinum Pro Stand Alone ECU, 750 injectors and a fuel pump from Deatschwerks, AEM intake, intercooler and piping, and water/meth injection, and a 3" down pipe and motor mounts from CCp-e.

Catch your breath because there's more coming.

A 3" titanium dual exhaust was also installed courtesy of Tomei and JP Kustoms, as well as an ACT heavy duty clutch and 6-pad sprung race disk, an Enjuku stainless clutch line, a Mishimoto radiator, Samco hoses, and sway bars from Whiteline Motorsport.

Electronics

A car this spectacularly unique needs serious gizmos and off-the-wall gadgetry to complete its program. That was taken cared of by a Unavi touch-screen navigation system with its own music hard drive. A Sony double din touch-screen navigation system is also part of the package, as well as 12" Sony subs, complete sound deadening from JP Kustoms, and a back-up camera. For all of the attention paid to how this sports coupe looks, it certainly doesn't lack in technology.
