Hyundai Genesis->ke2924 and Equus->ke3333 are two models that have significantly increased sales numbera for the Korean company. However, in order to keep this trend, the company needs to update them periodically on both design and powertrain. With this in mind, Hyundai->ke201 has unveiled the HCD-14 Genesis - a concept car that preview's design direction for future premium vehicles - at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.

The most obvious updates on the new design language are the deep vertical grille, the new headlamps, the rear-hinged rear doors – a pretty sweet feature for a four-door coupe - and those large-diameter wheels.

Under the hood the HCD-14 concept combines a 5.0-liter Tau V-8 direct-injection engine with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The concept also features an "ultra-rigid" chassis with high-tensile-strength steel in strategic areas that help improve the driving experience.

Exterior and interior

For the new HCD-14 concept Hyundai prepared a very cool fluidic-precision, liquid-metal design language. It includes a bold front fascia, brushed metal surrounds and a deep vertical grille opening. For the rear of the hood, the HCD-14 received heat extractor design accents that integrate seamlessly with exterior mirror design.

The car's side profile is dominated by short overhangs, large-diameter wheels, sharply-tapered greenhouse, and short rear deck. The wheels feature a cool mix of premium lightweight alloys with carbon fiber.

Impressive features are the rear doors with their rear-hinged configuration, as they hey provide access to a nicely equipped cabin. In here, Hyundai placed a double-cresting-wave center console design, with the same feature applied to the door handles and rear headrest hoods. The driver will get all the info needed, thanks to an eclectic fusion of both analog and digital sources, with aviation-derived design cues.

Engine

Under the hood of the new HCD-14 concept, Hyundai placed their latest 5.0-liter Tau V-8 engine featuring direct injection and Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (D-CVVT). The concept is also equipped with optical recognition to identify the driver and initiate the starting sequence.

The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Another nice feature is the concept's ceramic-lined exhaust system tuned for minimal back-pressure, maximum high-rpm horsepower, and a deep baritone note.

When can I drive one?

Do not expect to see the Hyundai HCD-14 Concept to be put into production, but its design language will be featured in the future Hyundai models.
