Video: Rhys Millen Genesis Coupe drifting at Hyundai Headquarters

Hyundai USA plans to demolish its old headquarters in Fountain Valley California in about two weeks, but before that happens, they decided it would be a good idea to have a little fun on the property. Hyundai has put together a movie that features three stars: Rhys Millen, his Genesis Coupe Drift Car, and the abandoned headquarters.

All three stars of the show were present to provide a unique drift demonstration in a unique industrial setting. And to add some more flavor to the video, a bad cop and some donuts were also added.

The best part of the video is Rhys Millen’s sick skills at controlling the vehicle and the sweetness of the Genesis Coupe Drift Car.

As always, please remember that this is a professional on a closed course, so don’t try this at home!

Turbocharged V6 or High-Displacement V8? Hyundai says the choice is ours

Earlier in the summer, it was rumored that Hyundai would be offering a 5.0 liter V8 engine for the Genesis Coupe sports car. This new engine would deliver an impressive 429 HP at 6500 rpm and 376 lb-ft of torque at 5000 rpm with an 11.5:1 compression ratio (estimated). The overall buzz in the industry illustrated the excitement over the historic use of a V8 engine, but Hyundai may have another trick up its sleeve: a turbocharged V6 engine.

It’s definitely not a secret that automakers have been leaning towards forced induction options such as turbocharging and supercharging to achieve high power while reducing fuel consumption. Hyundai is no different in that aspect. During a recent interview at Hyundai Motor America’s technical center in Ann Arbor, MI, Powertrain Boss John Juriga confirmed that the rumored turbocharged V6 really did exist and that is currently under testing: "The 3.8 is a contender for turbocharging for some high-output applications." But the fact that such an engine exists does not guarantee that it will be put into production. The final decision will only be made based on customers’ feedback.

The two Genesis Coupe concepts seen at the 2011 SEMA Show - the V6 powered Hurricane SC and the V8 powered Genesis RM500 - were specially created to generate feedback for which method of power delivery would be preferred by the masses. The decision is inevitably ours to make; do we marvel over the tried and true power and feel of a massive V8 engine or do we take that same amount of power and pay less at the pump? Let us know what you think in the comments section below!

2012 Hyundai Azera

Hyundai has unveiled the second generation Azera at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show. This is the fifth vehicle to adopt the company’s signature Fluidic Sculpture design language next to the Tucson, Accent, Elantra, and Sonata models. The Hyundai Azera will go on sale in February 2012.

The new Fluidic Sculpture design language the Azera has adopted allows the luxury sedan to be longer, lighter, and lower. With these changes, the model will offer more than 45 inches of legroom and 40 inches of headroom for front-seat passengers.

Under the hood, the new Azera will offer a new 3.3-liter V6 engine with direct injection that will deliver 293 HP and 255 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to Hyundai’s six-speed automatic transmission and will deliver a fuel economy of 20 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.

UPDATE 11/16/11: This review has been updated with the official details and images for the Hyundai Azera.

UPDATE 02/15/12: Hyundai has officially released the official price for the 2012 Azera that is now officially on sale. Prices will start from $32,000 for the extraordinarily well-equipped Azera and $36,000 for the range-topping Azera with Technology Package.

2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe - official teasers revealed

After spy images of the new Genesis Coupe flooded the internet, Hyundai has decided it is time to reveal two teaser images of the next sports car on their official blog, just to give us a little hint as to what we can expect when the car is fully revealed. They have also confirmed that the car will be released on November 12, 2011 at the Chonnam National Yeongam F1 Speed Festival.

The first new teaser image released by Hyundai clearly shows that the new Genesis Coupe has received a more aggressive exterior look with a new hexagonal grille similar to the one in the Veloster. It is also now lighting the way with new LED fog-lights, and redesigned headlights and taillights.

The second teaser image shows the new badge plain as day: 380GT. This new badge signifies that the Genesis Coupe will receive the same 3.8-liter V-6 engine, maybe with a boost in power and an improvement in fuel economy.

2011 Hyundai Veloster by PM Lifestyle

With the 2011 SEMA Auto Show fast approaching, one automaker has taken the lead-up to introduce some of the models they’ll have in attendance at the world’s biggest aftermarket auto exhibition.

You can always count on Hyundai to make a splash at SEMA and this year appears to be no different. After a teaser of an Ark Performance-tuned Veloster a few weeks ago, another Veloster has been given its own rendering round-up leading up to the grand unveiling in two weeks time.

This time around, the car comes courtesy of PM Lifestyle and true to their name, this Veloster looks to have a lifestyle all its own. Nevermind the fact that the car will carry a mechanical overhaul that includes NOS, launch control, and a high-flow racing catalytic converter - estimated output is around 163 horsepower - this Veloster comes with some exterior and interior modifications that will definitely thump your senses.

On the outside, the Veloster will come with GReddy carbon fiber hood dampers, LED door mirrors from the Genesis, a Sequence-X body kit, a complete LED light conversion and plenty of carbon fiber from Seibon. But inside the car is where it gets a little more, shall we say, curious.

Whether they’re attempting to turn this car into an eye-catcher or not, PM Lifestyle dressed up the Veloster in a rather unorthodox fashion. It’s cool enough that the car has a sick audio system and a Panasonic Toughbook inside it, but what really takes the proverbial is the "Peanut Butter Leather" that was used on the seats and the center console.

Here’s to hoping that ants don’t follow this car to Las Vegas.

2012 Hyundai Veloster Tech by REMIX

The third Veloster by REMIX to be displayed at the 2011 SEMA Show is for those who do not like Gaming or Music, but just appreciate having the latest technology in their car. The Veloster Tech features a BASF Alpine White paint job combined with Custom Alpine White & Gloss Black headlights, a gloss black exterior trim and exhaust, smoked taillights and reflectors, an Alpine White rear diffuser, and LED puddle lights. The exterior is finished off with a new set of 19-inch TSW rotary forged RF9 wheels, also in white.

The interior of the Veloster Tech continues with the white theme from the exterior with white Vinyl & Suede seats, dash, and door panels, white LED Lighting, a white suede headliner, white floor mats, and Alpine White painted trim pieces.

As for the technological additions, REMIX has added a long list of accessories that would fit well in someone’s home, but the company has strategically placed them into the Veloster to turn it into a rolling media frenzy. It starts off with a Mac Mini with LED illuminated On/Off switch, an RFID reader, and Samsung Galaxy 7-inch tablets, controlled by a wireless keyboard & mouse connected to their custom ports. Owners can make calls off of their included LG 3D thrill phone or sit back and catch their favorite show on the 40-inch Samsung LED 3D TV with Samsung 3D Blu-Ray player & eight pairs of 3D glasses. Don;t have your favorite movie? Record your own with your new Panasonic 3D camcorder. All of these accessories can be controlled by the new Universal Remote MX-6000.

With a setup like this, living in your car may not be so bad.

2012 Hyundai Veloster Music by REMIX

If Gaming is not your thing, but you do appreciate good music, then REMIX has also prepared the perfect Veloster for you. Called Veloster Music, the new car features a BASF matte black paint combined with matte black headlights, gloss Hyundai logos & trim and smoked taillights. The final touch for the exterior has been given by a new set of 19-inch Privat Legende wheels in graphite.

The interior has received black Vinyl & Suede dash & door panels, red leather seats, black Suede headliner with guitar mount, red painted trim, red LED lighting and red stitched steering wheel.

But the most impressive updates have been made in the Audio - Video section. In here the tuner has added Numark NS6 DJ Controller with Serato Itch, 15-inch MacBook Pro colored by Colorware, Three JL audio HD aps, six 6.5-inch JL Audio Evolution ZR Component, speakers with Tweeter, two 5.25-inch JL Audio Coaxial speakers, JL Audio CleanSweep, two iPads, customized Odyssey laptop mount, Pioneer HDJ-2000 headphones colored by Colorware, Fender FSR Stratocaster guitar, Vox Stainless Amp, Monster Rock guitar cable, iRig Mobile Guitar Amp and iPhone 4S.

2012 Hyundai Veloster Gaming by REMIX

When Hyundai unveiled the new Veloster they announced it has been designed with young clientele in mind. And, as just another proof that this car can be very playful, the company has unveiled at the SEMA Show three customized Hyundai Velosters designed by RIDES Magazine. The cars represent the passion points of music, technology and gaming.

The first one, Veloster Gaming features a very cool BASF Envy Green paint combined with custom Satin Black & Envy Green headlights and smoked rear taillights. There is also minor body kit that includes front lip, side skirts and rear bumper mesh vents but also a Ferrari 458-insipired three-pipe exhaust. The car sits on a new set of 19-inch Monotec T10 forged wheels with Envy Green brake calipers.

But the most impressive changes have been made on the interior. In here the tuner has added black vinyl, carbon fiber & Suede seats, dash & door panels, Sparco Road Chrono racing seats, green stitched steering wheel, Black Suede headliner and Envy Green painted trim pieces.

And because this is a "Gaming" car it has received a 40-inch Samsung LED 3D TV, motorized platform with Xbox360 custom colored by Colorware, four custom controllers, Xbox360 controller charging base, video game holder, Kinect motion sensor, JL Audio HD amplifier & evolution speakers, Green LED lighting and two 7-inch monitors molded in rear seat back.

2012 Hyundai Stratus Sprinter: "Countess of Siberia"

From the minds of Hyundai Design North America, their official entry to the LA Auto Show Design Challenge features prominently in the action thriller “Countess of Siberia.”

As a vampire, Countess Elena has been walking the streets of the world since 1829. Armed with super-human senses and the ability to be a night-traveler, Elena was recruited to be a member of the Soviet spy network in World War II.

Since then, the Elena has undertaken a mission of protecting freedom and justice in the world while also curtailing the hazards of communism. To aid her in the constant quest for justice, Elena uses two vehicles at her disposal: the Hyundai Stratus Sprinter and the DB Atlant Airship. Just like her, the two vehicles offer plenty of unique features that make them a trustworthy companion for the crime-fighting vampire. The Stratus, for one, is capable of light combat and is armed and ready to tussle on just about any road surface it runs on. Meanwhile, the Atlanta Airship goes where the Status is ill-equipped to travel. It remains hidden in the sky to avoid detection and is used whenever Countess Elena needs to travel through waters to save some poor soul from the clutches of tyranny and oppression.

2012 Hyundai Genesis Hurricane SC

The Genesis Hurricane SC made its debut today at the SEMA Show next to a very impressive Hyundai line-up. The new model has been developed in cooperation with Magnuson Products, Rhys Millen Racing, Harman International and Torvec Inc. and is just another proof of how cool the Genesis Coupe can be.

Magnuson was responsible for the engine upgrades. They have equipped the 3.8 liter V-6 engine with a liquid to air intercooler for a total output of more than 450 HP. Torvec Inc. has been developing its IsoTorque differential with improved handling and traction capability.

Rhys Millen Racing (RMR) was responsible for the exterior. They added a new front bumper, grille, hood, side skirts, diffuser, and rear deck with spoiler. The car has also received high performance 19-inch wheel and tire assemblies, a RMR free flowing exhaust system, and an air intake.

The interior gets a Harman International high level Lexicon audio system, custom premium leather, and suede seats accented with blue inserts.
