Hyundai i30 iBlue

Hyundai i30 iBlue

Hyundai announced a range of Blue vehicles that will offer emissions below the crucial 120g/km barrier. First to be revealed is the i30 Blue that will go on sale in September at a price of £13,155.

The i30 hatchback is powered by the familiar and acclaimed 1.6-litre CRDi engine and offers better value than low emission rivals, including the offerings from Ford and Volkswagen.

In addition the i-Blue badge will also be used on all i10 models which produce less than 120g/km. The introduction of the new 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine, available from September, means this will apply to every i10 with a manual transmission.

The engine is will be available with a six-speed automatic transmission. In a Sonata with an automatic transmission, the new engine returns 22 mpg city and 32 mpg highway.

The seven passenger SUV’s price tag starts at a reasonable $27,000. The price is attractive but very similar to the competition; the acclaimed Mazda CX9 ($29k+) or the newly redesigned Toyota Highlander ($28k+). All Veracruz trims are equipped with the same 260 horsepower V6 engine, matted to a six-speed automatic transmission. Our Veracruz Limited version is loaded with all wheel-drive, leather seats and a navigation system. At an MSRP of $38,000, it is not any cheaper than a loaded Toyota Highlander Limit

Hyundai’s eyes on micro car segment

Hyundai's eyes on micro car segment

Hyundai has set its eyes on the micro car segment; it is planning to launch a competitor to the Tata Nano by 2011 with an estimated price tag of $3,500.

However, Hyundai has said that it has no intention to go head-to-head with the Tata Nano, which is believed to change the Indian car market forever. Hyundai’s managing director in India, Heung Soo Iheem said: “We do not have immediate plans to fight with the Nano. It is planned keeping in mind the Indian market conditions and the interest of the general public.”

The economy car is currently under development at Hyundai’s research and development center in South Korea, it would also be exported beyond India.

The competition in the segment is getting tougher as Indian company Bajaj has teamed up with Renault to create a similar low-priced car by the end of 2011. Time will tell which budget car will emerge as the lower-middle class’ favorite.

Hyundai Genesis Sedan pricing announced

Hyundai Genesis Sedan pricing announced

Hyundai announced prices for its new flagship, the all-new Genesis sports sedan, starting at $33,000 for a well-equipped 290-horsepower V6 and $38,000 for the 375-horsepower V8 model.

"When we first showed the production Genesis earlier this year, we committed to deliver the interior package of flagship European luxury sedans, world-class driving dynamics, and pricing comparable to entry-level premium brand vehicles," said John Krafcik, vice president, product development and strategic planning, Hyundai Motor America. "Today, we’re delivering on a key part of that commitment, with a very well-equipped Genesis sedan priced below the most basic Infiniti G35 or BMW 3-Series."

While Genesis will compete for customers with cars like Lexus ES, Chrysler 300 and Cadillac CTS, Genesis’ performance capabilities and luxury features are comparable to sedans costing tens of thousands of dollars more. With base prices of $33,000 for a well-equipped 3.8-liter V6, and $38,000 for a 4.6-liter V8, Genesis makes a premium driving experience accessible to a wide range of customers. Genesis goes on sale at Hyundai dealerships in July, delivering the kind of value equation American car buyers have come to expect from Hyundai.
