We have been wondering for quite some time about an Infiniti entry-level sedan and they finally got around to making one, just not here.
Images of the Infiniti G25 have begun to surface on the Chinese website, Autohome and the shots show the car on the showroom floor of a Chinese dealerships. You can also have this car in certain areas in Russia.
Under the hood of the G25 is a 2.5-liter V6 that creates around 232 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. We would like to see a little more torque if this car does come to our shores.
Reports have indicated that the G25 will be heading to the United States, but we don’t have official word if that will be the case or not. It seems logical though, as the Japanese automaker would need this car to compete with the BMW 328i and the Lexus IS250.
You heard a lot people talking about the recent alliance between Daimler and Renault-Nissan, but what will this bring to the Infiniti line-up? According to Japan’s Best Car magazine the Infiniti M and Infiniti G replacements (known as the Nissan Fuga and Skyline in Japan) will share a foundation with the Mercedes E-Class. This may be a little hard to believe, but it is not completely crazy. Look at Volkswagen and Porsche. That seemed to be an unlikely pairing as well and they have done it. The platform sharing between Mercedes and Infiniti are just rumors for now, but we will keep chugging ahead until we get some sort of confirmation or refutability of this development.
What we do know about this alliance so far is that it will bring the development of a new rear-wheel drive platform for small cars and the sharing of diesel and petrol engines between the two groups. Also, a small Infiniti CUV based on the next generation of the Mercedes A-class is also a possibility.
Sounds to us like this could mark the start of a productive friendship. Especially if we get to see some high-speed Mercedes engines in cheaper Infiniti models.
When Infiniti unveiled the Essence Concept at the Geneva Motor Show they had announced that the concept would be a preview of the company’s future design language. And while the Infiniti M was the first one to speak that design language fluently, there are rumors stating that the next generation G is going to be the next one to feature the Essence language. The Infiniti G will be revealed in 2012 which is a pretty strange decision considering the G37 has just received a small facelift.
Another rumor flying around the next G is that it will be powered by the same 3.5-liter hybrid combination from the current Infiniti M35 that develops around 360 HP. That is, if it doesn’t follow the concept closely enough to borrow its 592 hp petrol-electric hybrid engine. Of course, taking the new Renault-Nissan-Daimler alliance into consideration, a diesel hybrid is also a possibility.
Infiniti today announced prices for the 2010 G37 sedan revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show and its coupe. The Convertible version will be revealed in February 2010.
Both models, sedan and coupe will be offered in four trims: standard, Journey, AWD and Sport. Prices for the sedan version will start at $33,250 and for the coupe at $36,050.
Both models are powered by a 3.7-liter VVEL (Variable Valve Event & Lift) V6 engien that delivers a total of 328 hp. The engine is mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission standard, and a 6-speed manual transmission is offered for the G37 Sedan Sport 6MT version.
Infiniti’s popular G35 Sedan, which continues to set monthly and yearly sales records, raised the bar in class in 2004 with the addition of an advanced all-wheel drive model, the G35x AWD. For 2005, G35 takes another major leap forward with a redesigned exterior, a refined interior featuring a new instrument panel and console area and increased horsepower and torque for the standard 3.5-liter DOHC V6 engine.
The Infiniti G35 coupe, since its introduction in 2003, has offered sports coupe lovers a powerful, rear-wheel drive performer - one that combines a racing-inspired platform and advanced technology, all draped under a sensuous, aerodynamic body. Now, for the 2005 model year, Infiniti turns up the heat on the competition with enhanced performance, a revised interior and new equipment offerings.
