The 2010 G37 has become one of the most popular entry level luxury cars on the market. The line itself has been a hit since it evolved from the original G35->ke1384 series that, at the time, only featured a sedan and a coupe, which continues to be a top seller for the brand. Fast forward a couple of years to 2008 when the G35 evolved into the G37. The new exterior was more than enough to catch a second glance at the line, however, a new power plant and safety features were also introduced with this new version of the G series. This helped many potential consumers make their decisions when purchasing a luxury sports coupe. Then, in 2009, Infiniti->ke36 managed to get everyone’s attention yet again by launching a hardtop convertible version of the G37 to the market. The convertible was stunning and some would think that should be enough to please the crowds, however, Infiniti didn’t see it that way. As a result, we are introduced to the Infiniti G37S convertible in 2010 and the crowds have gone wild. Still true to its sleek line, the G37S convertible is able to keep the same sophisticated characteristics that we have come to recognize from Infiniti and, at the same time, increase the way it performs. This is thanks to a new powerplant that is able to allow the G37S convertible to evolve yet again into a luxury sports car with all of the performance and comfort features to back it up.

The interior of the G37S comes with Silk Obi aluminum interior trim, aluminum kick plates, and aluminum pedals and footrest. For comfort, a leather interior has been installed which includes 10 way power driver's sport seat with manual thigh extension, driver's power torso and thigh support adjustment, and a sport seat for the passenger with an 8-way power adjustable setting. The G37S convertible’s AC system has a unique feature that regulates the cabin temperature for a more comfortable ride; the Adaptive Climate Control System automatically adjusts according to outside temperature, top position, and speed. Basically, when you slow down with the top down in warm weather, the A/C blows more air to cool you down as the wind diminishes. When it's cold outside and you're speeding up, the heater blows warm air as more cool air enters the cabin. Just in case the driver and passengers are still a little chilled, the front seats have built-in heaters while heater ducts under the front seats warm the rear seats. Other features include: remote power door locks with auto locking feature, a back-up camera, power windows, door locks, a leather wrapped 3 spoke steering wheel, and a shift knob with aluminum accent.

The G37S is equipped with a Bose Open Air Sound System that provides excellent sound by monitoring for ambient noise. Using speed and hardtop position to adjust the amplifier's equalization creates the best sound clarity regardless of the driving conditions. The sound system is also iPod compatible so you can plug in through a connector located in the center armrest and play songs while the interface appears on the dash monitor. There is also a 2.0GB Music Box with 800 MB of free space for music storage, XM Satellite Radio, and a Bluetooth hands-free phone system that can be accessed and controlled through the steering wheel mounted audio and cruise controls. Just like all G37’s, the G37S convertible also has a tilt and telescopic steering column synchronized with the gauge cluster. The gauge cluster is fitted with electroluminescent gauges on the steering column for improved vision and a multi function trip computer with a 7 inch screen that displays audio, fuel economy/range, maintenance, outside temperature, and comfort and convenience features.

Perhaps one of the best exterior features of the Infiniti G37S is the three-piece retractable hardtop that was designed to open and close within 30 seconds. Infinity has described this as a clamshell manner that allows the G37S to minimize bulk when folded thus creating a slimmer, more appealing exterior look. It opens and closes smoothly and efficiently so you can get to the best part of what the G37S convertible has to offer. The rest of the exterior is complimented with an aluminum hood with gas struts to hold the hood open, while the sport front fascia features auto on/off High Intensity Discharge (HID) bi functional xenon headlights with integrated front fog lights. The rear of the G37S has a window defroster with built in indicator light and timer. Other features include: a dual heated power adjustable folding mirrors, LED taillights and center high-mounted stoplight and peed sensing flat blade variable intermittent front windshield wipers, and a dual chrome exhaust tip set up.

The 2010 Infiniti G37S is equipped with a 3.7 V6 engine that features an aluminum alloy block and heads with low friction coated pistons, double overhead camshaft (DOHC), and 4 valves per cylinder with micro finished camshafts. This setup allows the vehicle to produce up to 325 hp at 7,000rpm and 267 lbs. of torque at 5,200 rpm giving the G37S the goods needed to maintain its luxury sports car persona. The G37S power plant is paired up with an impressive drive train that includes Infiniti’s new Valve Event and Lift or (VVEL) technology. This technology continually adjusts intake valve lift and timing thus delivering a quicker response and broader torque curve, while improving fuel efficiency. All of these features grant the G37S an estimated fuel efficiency of 16 mpg in the city and a respectable 24 mpg on the highway. It also improves performance and emissions. In addition to the VVEL System, the G37S is also fitted with a continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System or (CVTCS) that optimizes opening of intake valves. Gears to the rear wheel drive feature a speed sensitive variable assist power rack-and-pinion that flow smoothly through the 6 speed manual transmission equipped with a close ratio short throw shifter.

The suspension is smooth and is comprised of independent double wishbone-shaped arms with coil springs over Dual Flow Path shock absorbers and stabilizer bars for the front and the rear. To keep the rear wheel convertible in grip when accelerating, the G37S has the Infiniti M’s Traction Control System that senses wheel spin and automatically reduces engine output and/or brakes the spinning wheel. This helps to improve traction and avoid possible loss of control. In tandem with the Traction Control System, the G37S is also equipped with VDC which compares the vehicle’s cornering performance to the driver’s input. It does this by adjusting power levels and applying appropriate brake pressure to individual wheels correcting over and under steering. With so many safety protocols in place, one can say that the G37S is hard to knock off the road, not that you would like to try either. Taking into consideration that the G37S convertible is fast and heavy (at 4099 lbs.), it’s important to have a good brake system. This is exactly what Infinity did by outfitting the G37S convertible with aluminum 4 piston opposed front calipers with 14.0 x 1.3 inch ventilated discs/2-piston opposed rear calipers with 13.8 x 0.8-inch ventilated discs, and a 4 wheel, 4 channel ABS system. The G37S rolls on sleek, 10 spoke, 19 x 8.5 inch aluminum alloy wheels that are wrapped on 225/45R19 W-rated summer performance tires for the front and 19 x 9.0 inch aluminum alloy wheels with 245/40R19 W-rated summer performance tires for the rear.

Since its introduction last year, Infiniti has not made too many changes to the exterior and interior to the G37, however, with the G37S, the difference between the two model trims is significant. The G37 still maintains the same stylish aerodynamics, and now with the S trim package, it truly backs up its luxury performance persona that rivals most domestic and European competitors in its class. This is a car that anyone can drive and look well in at the same time. The interior is stylish and comfortable and the stereo always sounds good even with the top down. The power is there when needed and the peace of mind of knowing that Infiniti took the time to design a suspension and add plenty of safety features to complement it is a definite plus. Fuel economy on the G37S convertible is also up to par and pricing for the G37S is highly competitive leaving consumers with little to think about when shopping for a luxury sport convertible.
