Exterior and Interior

Infiniti started to preview their future design language in 2009 when they unveiled the Essence->ke3379 concept car to commemorate the brand's 20th anniversary. Then, in 2011, they another step forward and unveiled the Etherea concept, Infiniti's first front-wheel drive car. Now, in 2012, the company added the EMERG-E - a concept that is sportier, more dynamic, and even more expressive than the previous two.

At the front of the concept is a three-dimensional "Double Arch" front grille with a new waved pattern. Another iconic Infiniti signature is the LED head lamp graphic inspired by a god's forceful eye. Kimono inspired air intakes on the rear fender will further increase the elegance to this performance car.

The interior features the same treatment as the Essence: the spaces for both driver and passenger are formed by two different colors and materials contrasting functional and comfortable zones.

Engine

The Infiniti EMERG-E is a mid-engined concept powered by a twin electric motor that delivers a total of 420 HP. The car will sprint from 0 to 60mph in just four seconds and from zero to 130 mph in just 30 seconds. On zero-emission conditions, the concept has a range of 30 miles, but with the assistance of a small three cylinder petrol engine, it is capable of a range of up to 300 miles. In this case, it produces a CO2 output of only 55g/km

The concept features a pair of electric motors, a lithium-ion battery pack, four inverters, a three-cylinder range-extending internal combustion engine, and a petrol tank.

When Can I Buy One?

Infiniti says that the EMERG-E will make it to production depending on the reaction received at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. However, expect to see many of its elements featured in the company's future models.

Competition

There are plenty of electric models out there, but we believe Audi's e-Tron model will offer the same level of luxury as the Infiniti. The Audi e-Tron is powered by a turbocharged 3.0 Liter TDI engine with an output of 300 HP, combined with two asynchronous electric motors with a total output of 88 HP. The result is a sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and a top speed limited to 155 mph.
