Nissan’s Infiniti->ke36 brand is poised to introduce the new 2012 Infiniti G37->ke2402, including a coupe variant that’s scheduled to be launched to the market around 2012. The move to release a new G37 isn’t all that surprising considering the brand’s apparent intention in building cars that are more aesthetically pleasing to the eye in today’s car market. There have been talks that the G37, specifically the coupe version, will be designed using the Infiniti Essence->ke3379 concept that was debuted by the company at the Geneva Motor Show a year ago.

Though nothing has been confirmed yet, we’re expecting nothing less from these guys considering that if they really are using the Essence concept as a peg for how the new G37 looks like – just so you know, we were totally smitten over the Essence when we saw it in Geneva – then it’s safe to say that the G37 is poised to definitely knock our socks off when it is officially unveiled.

Details after the jump.

Exterior and Interior

As first reported by Auto, Motor und Sport, the next generation G37 will be stylistically different from the Nissan 370Z – a car that it has been previously based on – as the former’s body work will most likely come in a shooting brake style and is rumored to be based on the Essence Concept. If there’s any truth to this, then we can at least expect the G37 Coupe to come with a completely fresh new design language, an aggressive car that will boast of sweeping lines, intricate contours, and an overall assertive look to it. There’s already mention of the car’s dimensions – 186x77x52 inches with a wheelbase of 110 inches – making it willowy and svelte, and a practical every day car for the performance-minded.

Then there’s the matter of the car’s top. According to a few birds we’ve talked to, the 2012 G37 Coupe variant will most likely come in a hard-top version. Although a convertible variant could still be in the pipeline, it’s far more likely that we’re going to see a hardtop first.

Performance

Rumors are also running around that the new G37 will be powered by a 3.5-liter hybrid combination engine taken from the M35 that produces an output of around 360 horsepower and will be mated in either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed sequential transmission. There are also whispers that because of the new Renault-Nissan alliance with Daimler, the Infiniti G37 Coupe could have a diesel hybrid variant that takes advantage of better mileage and overall efficiency for the car.

Pricing

The car is yet to be revealed so you really can’t expect a price tag to be out yet. As for when we’re going to see the car debut, word has it that it could happen sometime next year with a possible launch date around 2012.

Competition

The new Infiniti G37 Coupe will face some pretty strong competition from its Japanese, European, and American counterparts. Given the competitive nature of the segment it’s in, Infiniti can expect to have its hands full when promoting the new G37. Not that we see that as a problem because we always believe in healthy competition. Noting a few models that could detract the G37 from global domination includes, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, the BMW 3-Series->ke290, the soon-to-be launched Toyota FT-86->ke3538, and the Honda CR-Z->ke3082.
