2013 Infiniti IPL G Convertible

The Infiniti IPL G Cabrio Concept was a surprise attendee at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, leading to a lot of curious eyebrows as to why the car made its way there in the first place. Turns out, Infiniti brought the concept as part of their announcement for plans for a production version set to be released soon.

Following in the footsteps of the IPL G Coupe , which itself was first introduced around this time last year, the IPL G Convertible is being prepared to give consumers an open-top version of the affordable yet high-powered sports car from Infiniti’s Performance Line.

The IPL G Convertible was officially unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show, drawing an overwhelmingly positive response from a crowd that saw a car replete with impressive exterior, interior, and performance features.

“Like every Infiniti, the new IPL G Convertible takes a different path from its established competitors, with its retractable hardtop that is designed to look as good with the top up as down," said Infiniti Americas Vice President Ben Poore. "It’s a terrific addition to the Infiniti Performance Line, taking the dramatic Infiniti G Convertible to an even higher level.”

Performance

Infiniti IPL G Convertible

Under the hood of the IPL G Convertible lies a powerful and advanced 3.7-liter VQ37VHR V6 engine that produces an impressive output of 343 horsepower an 273 lb/ft of torque, an increase of 18 horsepower over the non-IPL models and an uptick of six lb/ft of torque. The engine is mated to an electronically controlled 7-speed automatic transmission with Downshift Rev Matching and quick-shift Drive Sport (DS) mode with magnesium paddle shifters and Adaptive Shift Control (ASC).

The car also has an engine management system that has been recalibrated through an air-fuel mixture and ignition timing optimization, raising the maximum horsepower of the car to a very impressive point of 7,400 rpm. The IPL-tuned high-flow exhaust is a full dual exhaust design with independent left and right large diameter pipes while the muffler’s inner structure and materials have been maximized to reduce pressure and provide an appropriate performance exhaust note.

Safety

Infiniti IPL G Convertible

Despite looking the part of a sexy sports car, the IPL G Convertible also has some pretty upstanding safety features. Pricing

Infiniti IPL G Convertible

The Infiniti IPL G Convertible went on sale in June 2012 at Infiniti retailers nationwide, following in the lead of the IPL G Coupe as the second car to be released by Infiniti’s Performance Line. The model will be priced from $60,600, while its coupe brother has a starting price of $50,500.

Competition

Infiniti IPL G Convertible

Nissan and Toyota have had a long rivalry and that has continued on with their respective sister companies, Infiniti and Lexus Lexus . In the case of the Infiniti IPL G Convertible, one car that can pose some stiff competition to the car is the Lexus IS.

Performance figures are pretty similar to both cars with the IPL G Convertible’s 3.7-liter V6 engine with 343 horsepower holding an edge over the IS 350C’s 3.5-liter V6 engine with 306 horsepower.

Aesthetic amenities also favor the IPL G Convertible, although when you look at both models and take out their respective badges, you’d have a hard time trying to point which one is the IS 350C and which one is the IPL G Convertible.

That only speaks to the similarities between the two, making the choice between the two models a matter of preference more than anything else.

This convertible is awesome! The smooth, glossy black paint goes well with the velvet red interior, what a perfect match!

@Trey_Brown The interior is simply luxurious in their Monaco Red upholstery. I agree with you that this car is one of the successful on the market.

The Monaco red seats with the loaded interior amenities seem to capture my attention. The performance output is mind-blowing.

I like this convertible’s interior! It seems to be comfortable and relaxing. Its exterior is complementarily classy too.

This convertible is the one! I love the smooth, glossy black paint. It goes well with the velvet red interior. What a ride!

This convertible offers a superb and seductive exterior design that everyone will stop moving when they see this. I found the Monaco red interior fresh but sexy, and it is loaded with lots of goodies

The leather seats are tempting, which was stained in Monaco red. It’s aura was sexy and daring. This could be a car of many gent’s dream.

I also want this car because he pretty simple, but not how he fashion his beautiful colored headlight is tapering shiny black color and all look good for him and also he was also lower vehicle

Yes, it was quietly impressive from the color to the full concept of the car, but for me it same as the other convertible cars. The v6 engine is not enough for infiniti. The over all design was very classic.

This car, is not the usual convertible car as what I see, its more of a elegant, lovely type of car. Consist of a red scheme combination from interior and upholstery which resulted a glamorous look to the car.

It really makes the car much more powerful with a red seats on it. One of the classic yet advance car on the market nowadays.

It is really indeed an awesome car but I think the interior touch didn’t suit on the color of the exterior and I must say that I am really fond with this convertible car.

I’m really surprised because Infiniti will join the Pebble Beach Auto Show. I don’t hear rumors at all that they will join this event. Well, it is a good thing, people will pursue to come since there a lot of cars are going to be unveiled.

The convertible is kind of awesome. And the figure performance of the v6 engine is kind of impressive.

Its kind of disappointing that they don’t use a more modern technology for this car. I’m not impressed with the performance this convertible vehicle.
