At Pebble Beach, Jaguar unveiled the XJ75 Platinum, a concept that is said to preview the R version of the XJ luxury sedan. That you knew already, but today we are going to talk about an important feature offered with the concept: a bespoke mechanical clock created by British watch brand Bremont. Coincidentally, this is the first time the company creates a clock for a car, but when Jaguar asks, people tend to do what they want.
Bremont’s co-founder Giles English said: "Jaguar is one of the world’s premier manufacturers of luxury cars and a great British brand. We are very proud to have been asked to make this clock for their XJ75 car and were keen to make something different for Jaguar. As such rather than a quartz clock we have created a beautiful mechanical clock that also has a chronograph function."
The clock is distinguished by a black and white color theme that flows well with the
Satin Matte Pearlescent White exterior color and dark chrome or gloss black exterior chrome elements.
Giles Taylor, Jaguar chief designer for the car said:"“Our design teams talk a similar language when it comes to clean cut form with a sharp, sporting edge. The XJ75 Bremont clock design has superb functional clarity in its detailing and this is combined with a beautifully crafted outer metal bezel that suggests strength and longevity."
Move over, Aston Martin! Jaguar is preparing a different type of vehicle that might spark the interest of the sexy 007. It’s called the special edition XJ Sentinel and it is set to be unveiled at the 2010 Moscow International Motor Show. Of course, to be able to fit the needs of a special agent, the new edition would need to be packed with some sort of protection. The XJ Sentinel provides just that with a state-of-the-art armoring package providing up to B7 levels of ballistic protection.
This protection is built using specialized high strength steels and an armored inner cell developed in conjunction with Centigon, a leading global specialist in armored vehicles. The Jaguar also comes with blast protection against 15kg TNT equivalent detonated within close proximity of the vehicle and floor grenade protection. All protection elements were inspected certified by QinetiQ, a globally recognized independent blast and ballistic testing organization.
The Sentinel is based on the long wheelbase XJ saloon and is powered by a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated direct-injection V8 petrol engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. This package produces a total of 386 HP and 380 lb-ft of torque.

There are much better ways to drive around without getting noticed and driving around in cars that cost well over what any of us make isn’t one of them.
Our cars - a Mercedes-Benz S600 AMG, BMW 760Li, Jaguar XJ and the Audi A8 - are dressed in their best colors with the waxed paint job glimmering in the evening sunlight. Driving through the heavily used highways around the Cleveland area is prime gawking time for motorists. At first, the stares and pointing fingers can make you feel a bit uncomfortable, but can you blame them? It isn’t everyday that you see a luxury barge roll through a relatively poor city, especially now that LeBron James is gone.
These four sedans might be large in stature, but one nudge or poke in the wrong place and its goodnight in one impressive display. So, with more onlookers than a Thanksgiving Day parade, we are obliged to find the best luxury sedan among the four.
