2013 Jaguar XF Sportbrake

Posted on by + 44

We absolutely just love talking about wagons that we’ll never get to see on our side of the pond. Wait, scratch that. It actually sucks to hear that Jaguar has finally unveiled the XF Sportbrake and Europe will be one of the few that will actually revel in its luxurious five door space. It’s not their fault that the British brand is going where the wagon demand is at its highest nor that we decided bigger was better before giving these in-between vehicles a chance, but we’re still a little envious.

The XF Sportbrake was supposed to make its world debut in March at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, but Jaguar decided to offer the first details one week before the actual event. While the car’s front is identical to the sedan version, the new XF Sportbrake is entirely new from the B-pillar and back. Under the hood, Jaguar has placed a range of four-cylinder 2.2-liter and V6 3.0-liter diesel engines with power going up to 275 HP.

UPDATE 08/08/12: Jaguar has released a video explaining the versatility of the new Jaguar XF Sportbrake. Check out the video to see just how much can fit into the back of this spacious ride!

Jaguar has unveiled a new video featuring the car’s designers explaining all the little details that went into creating the stunning new wagon.

Exterior

Jaguar XF Sportbrake

Just like the sedan version, the new XF Sportbrake will be defined by smooth, uninterrupted flow lines. The first line begins from the propeller-inspired blades fitted to the side air intakes and goes along the sills of the car and around the rear bumper. The second one runs up from the outer edge of the same intakes, defining the edges of the front wings before wrapping the entire way around the car, creating the XF Sportbrake’s muscular shoulder line.

At the front of the vehicle, there is a new, more upright grille, a purposeful bonnet, and, of course, new headlamps with bi-function HID xenon technology and LED daytime-running lights arranged in a distinctive Jaguar ’J-Blade’ pattern. For the rear, Jaguar is offering gloss black finishers on the rear pillars and rear lamps with LED technology for brake, light, and indicator functions.

The new XF Sportbrake will be offered with two optional exterior design packages, just like the sedan. The first one - The Aero Pack (standard on the ’S’ model) - adds a deeper front bumper, side sills, and rear valance plus a rear spoiler enhancement (a tailgate spoiler is standard on all models). The second package is the Black Pack and replaces the exterior bright finish with gloss black.

Interior

Jaguar XF Sportbrake

The interior of the new XF Sportbrake is also similar to the XF sedan, but it adds more storage capacity. The dashboard features a centrally-mounted touch-screen that offers full control of the navigation system and a range of other functions. The front seats are more sculpted, while the rear seats are completely new and offer seating capacity for three. Rear passengers also enjoy an additional 48mm of headroom.

"Jaguar is rightly praised for its design-led products but in creating the XF Sportbrake we were careful to ensure that this was balanced with the engineering integrity required to create an estate car that is as usable as it is enjoyable."

Engine

Jaguar XF Sportbrake

The new XF Sportbrake will be offered with a range of four-cylinder 2.2-liter and V6 3.0-liter diesel engines combined with an eight-speed gearbox and Jaguar’s Intelligent Stop-Start system. The entry level models will be powered by a 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine that has been specially designed for reduced emissions and improved fuel consumption.

Top versions will be offered with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine offered in two stages of tune, with the most powerful one delivering a total of 275 HP (for the S version). The V6 engine will be paired to an eight-speed gearbox in all models and offers driver control via steering wheel-mounted paddles.

Prices

Prices for the new XF Sportbrake will be announced closer to its market launch.

Competition

Jaguar XF Sportbrake

When the new XF Sportbrake goes on sale, it will target models such as the Audi A6 Avant and the BMW 5-Series Touring , which have had the wagon market on a tight hold thus far. The A6 Avant will be offered with a choice of six engines featuring direct fuel injection: one four-cylinder unit and five V6 units with power ranging from 177 to 303 HP. The 5-Series Touring will be offered with will be offered with a choice of two straight-six petrol engines as well as a four-cylinder and a six-cylinder diesel with power ranging from 184 HP to 306 HP. Its true the two German wagon models have the advantage of offering more engine options, but if the British version will follow the steps of its sedan brother will put them in lot of trouble.

I am sure of you have got to love this too. It offers a lot of storage capacities, and it has a great look in and out of the Jaguar. Lastly, it is offered with a four-cylinder engine.

This could be Santa’s new sleigh. Haha. Having all those gifts at the back of this car. Being a wagon is a good idea for this XF.

I also love the shape and the dimension of this Wagon, and it truly looks like a limousine on that. Well, good thing as well that it has surely a spacious interior, but I’m hoping that it would also have an interesting technology.

Jaguar really has an impressive platform and very attractive appearance. Anyway, I think it looks more appealing and exclusive on a black or white pearl body paint.

Wow! A wagon from Jaguar, great! Well, I must say that it is the most attractive and lovely wagon vehicle that I’ve seen. However, I wonder if what’s the engine specification of this one?

Yeah, right! Who would not love to have a wagon like this one? I can say that it is really the dreamed and ideal wagon vehicle of all! I just only hope that its engine is so excellent as well.

The most luxurious and impressive wagon that I saw nowadays! And I either, would love to have this kind of car, but I’m quite wondering what will really be the figure performance of it and even the interior of it.

I would love to have this kind of wagon. smiley It looks like a limousine car, and I bet it will be too expensive for its market production, but I must say that I either had a doubt if Jaguar really had any plan to put this one production.

Very luxurious car, though it does not look so very outstanding. I’ve known some luxurious car that are more trendy or cool their design evenly unique unlike this one, nothing in particular that look stunning here.

Compared to its competitor, I would still prefer this XF Wagon. It is already stunning and fabulous on its simple styling but I also want to see the interior features of it.

Wagon looks like a limousine, well it had the looks of a luxurious car and sophisticated either. Well, I’m still looking forward to the other article that TopSpeed will released about this wagon.

It seems so long but despite that the styling that it has is quite impressive for it even the its car lines seems so perfect! but how about its engine or speed performance that it has?

They should really put this wagon on production, but I think they should enhanced more the platform of this car. They had a lot of times to do it.

Actually, I have doubt if this vehicle would be in the production. I wonder on what will be the specs of the car. The competitor is not that tough.

I really hate the platform of the station wagon. However, I was wondering on what will be the competitor of the car. The interior of the car is kind of wider.

I like the shape of the car that shows class and luxury. In my opinion, we still need more specs and information about this car before criticizing its ability on the road. The exterior is already good, so only the interior’s information is what I’ve been looking for.

I think this would be a good choice for those who wants a spacious interior. But for me, I would refer a hatch over this car. I think it doesn’t offer a better fuel economy.

Well, I really don’t like the styling and the performance of wagon car. I really hate a wider body and its weight just makes the car to perform less.

Having a flexible car is really great but I think the design is too ordinary for me, but I’m still impressed with the features of it. I’m excited to know the details about the engine performance of this Jaguar.

Actually, that’s the thing that I like about the XF, that line of cars from Jaguar is really flexible. And this Wagon is certainly one proof of that, really looks nice.
