Gooding & Company puts a Jaguar D Type race car up for auction

Gooding & Company puts a Jaguar D Type race car up for auction

As classic an automobile that the Jaguar E Type was in the 1960s and 70s, it never could have come about without the factory built D Type race cars of the 1950s. If you missed out on the opportunity to own and experience this classic vertical finned racer with its pronounced round fenders well this might just be what you have been waiting for. That is because the auction house Gooding & Company is putting a classic 1956 Jaguar D Type up for auction on January 23rd, 2010. Besides the English automotive icon, Gooding will also auction off a rare Pininfarina 1959 Ferrari 250 GT Series I Cabriolet, a beautifully appointed 1956 Maserati A6G/54 Berlinetta, Hollywood’s 1934 Hispano-Suiza J-12 T68 Cabriolet as well as a top performing 1932 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750.

The 1956 Jaguar D Type is powered by a 3.8 Liter straight six cylinder power plant that is capable of producing an estimated 300 HP, quite a feat for the 1950s. The quite large inline engine is mated to a four speed manual transmission because that is what they had back then. The car begun its racing career in 1956 competing in California and enjoyed continued success at tracks such as Santa Barbara, Bakersfield, Palm Springs, Riverside, Paramount Ranch and Pomona. Making the D Type even more of a collector’s item is that over the car’s entire production run, only 87 units were ever made, and after a bit of wheel banging action there are most certainly less than that left in the world.

Jaguar set to open R Performance Academy on December 1

If purchasing your own 2010 Jaguar XKR or XFR isn’t enough, Jaguar is giving these lucky buyers an added bonus: the chance to test their driving skills at the recently launched R Performance Academy at the Homestead Miami Speedway.

The circuit, which stretches over 2.2 miles long comes with 14 challenging turns to give a real simulated challenge to drivers who are taking home their own Jaguars. You’ll be given a course on how to maximize your new car including the art of maximum acceleration, braking, and cornering. In addition to that, the R Academy will also provide you with a driving experience unlike anything you’ve ever been a part of.

And as if exploring the limits of your new R vehicle isn’t enough, you will also get a first-hand tutorial from some of the world’s premier driving coaches as they teach you the finer points of your new R vehicle, including the car’s safety benefits that are triggered by various system settings – even when the car is turned off.

The academy begins on December 1 and its safe to say that those who are interested in purchasing a new Jaguar R vehicle now have more reasons to do so.

Jaguar prepares a sport hatch for 2014

Jaguar prepares a sport hatch for 2014

Back in 2003 the English automaker Jaguar unveiled the R-D6 concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show. At the time, the concept car served as an indication of Jaguar’s new design direction. Almost a decade later, the shape of the R-D6 concept will finally find its way into production as the basis for a new sport hatch from Jaguar and is expected to appear in 2014.

Currently known as the R-D7, the future sport inspired hatchback will feature a compact footprint and Jaguar’s lightweight aluminum body and chassis that will be shared with the next generation XK sport coupe and an entry level XE, an E-Type for the 21st century, which is already undergoing development as a Porsche Boxster fighting hopeful. The exterior of the new hatch will be inspired by the latest XJ luxury sedan, while under the hood the R-D7 will make the most of a range of V6 gas and diesel burning power plants as well as an extremely efficient four cylinder diesel for the European market. Either way, the new Jaguar will be set impress as far as styling and performance are concerned because after all it is going to be a Jaguar.

The Jaguar XJ wins the 2009 South Florida International Auto Show Star of the Show Award

Jaguar showed off their 2010 XJ at the 2009 Miami Auto Show. Although they had already unveiled the new Jag in London with our favorite late night funny man Jay Leno and super model Claudia Schiffer to take wraps off the new cat, the new XJ was just as stunning in South Florida. This particular model was the very first of the special edition XJs built for Neiman Marcus and quite possibly put the car over the top with its wraparound wood interior and cat claw inspired rear tail lamps. The 2010 XJ is the first Jaguar model to be built using Jaguar’s aerospace-inspired aluminum body technology and will be available with a stretched wheelbase option as well as a choice of new ultra-efficient Gen III classification petrol and diesel engines consisting of a 3.0 Liter diesel V6, a 5.0 Liter naturally aspirated V8 as well as the almighty 5.0 Liter supercharged 8 cylinder power plant.

2013 Jaguar XE

2013 Jaguar XE

At any point in the future where you see yourself in front of a 2013 Jaguar XE, you should know that it was well worth the wait.

Despite the fact that it’s still a few years from now, the new Jaguar compact sports car is poised to take the XE line to new and unprecedented heights. With a lightweight, 3.5-liter V6 engine that’s capable of churning out as much as 450 horsepower, Jaguar is wasting no time in preparing the world for the new two-plus seater 2013 XE.

Together with the new XK, Jaguar is set to release a canvas top roadster of the XE, which will then be followed by a coupe version, allowing for prospective buyers to choose what style of the XE they prefer.

As it stands, the company is expected to release 60,000 units of both the 2013 XE and the XK, an optimistic number for a company that struggled to make any kind of dent on car sales this year.

After struggling with sales for the better part of the 2009, Jaguar is pegging 2013 as a big year for them and releasing a preview of what’s in store for customers is a sign that the Tata-owned luxury brand is hell bent on returning to its rightful place on top of any car enthusiast’s wish list.

Judging from the way the car looks – and the rumored engine it’s supposed to come in – the 2013 XE just may be the car Jaguar is looking for to jumpstart its fledgling brand.

Jaguar XJL Supercharged Neiman Marcus Edition

For the third straight year, Neiman Marcus will feature a limited edition 2010 Jaguar XJL Supercharged Neiman Marcus Edition on their upcoming Christmas Book. From what we’ve heard, the department store chain has about 50 of these limited ed cars for sale to those who may want to spend their entire Christmas bonus – perhaps even more than that – on a 5.0-liter V8 Jaguar XJ.

The limited-stock XJL comes with, among other things, a special plate with “Neiman Marcus 1 of 50” etched on it. In addition to that, the car has been painted with a Celestial Black color to match those 20-inch double-10 spoke wheels.

To make things more interesting, anybody who purchases on of these limited edition Jaguar XJs will become one of a handful of owners who’d have the new 2010 XJ in their garage because Jaguar will only release the standard version sometime next year. So if you can’t wait for those to be released, you might want to give Neiman Marcus a call at 1-866-524-6963. The store will only accept orders starting at 12 pm EST on October 16.

RSR Jaguar XKR GT2 racecar

RSR Jaguar XKR GT2 racecar

The American Le Mans Series racing team RSR, headed up by long time Jaguar privateer racer Paul Gentilozzi has just finished working on the next generation XK-R racing car in time to compete this weekend at the 1,000 mile Petit Le Mans in Braselton, Georgia this weekend. The 2010 XKR GT2 racecar was designed as a joint effort between the American racing team RSR and Jaguar’s Advance Design Studio, which is headed by the automaker’s chief designer Ian Callum. The experience of the veteran racer and Jaguar’s main body man has resulted in over 1,100 man hours molding clay and laying carbon fiber to create a shape that is fast and manages to maintain the feel of the factory vehicle.

The race car began its life as a brand new Jaguar XK-R, and despite being a fully built race car maintains much of the original car’s aluminum body panels; like the roof, doors and deck lid. Intensive computational fluid dynamics analysis by the automaker’s aerodynamics department has led to some interesting body work, like the trailing GT style rear wing, redesigned front bumper and extremely wide front fenders. The new 2010 XKR GT2 racecar is a vehicle that both Gentilozzi and Jaguar feel will become one of the most competitive Jaguar racing cars to compete in one of the most competitive ALMS GT2 fields in a long time.

When the green flag drops at 11:15 AM on September 26, the hills surrounding Road Atlanta will roar with the sounds of fire breathing race cars, but there will also be a new voice in the crowd, the XKR GT2 car with a trio of seasoned racers behind the wheel; the American Scott Pruett, the Belgian Marc Goossen and RSR team owner Paul Gentilozzi. If anyone can handle pulling a double duty like this one, Gentilozzi can.

Jaguar may have plans for smaller coupe to go up against the Audi A5 and the BMW 3-Series

Jaguar may have plans for smaller coupe to go up against the Audi A5 and the BMW 3-Series

After the recent unveilings of the XJ and XF saloons, Jaguar is now looking at releasing a car that would cater to a more affordable-friendly market.

This comes as great news for Jaguar enthusiasts who may not be able to afford the more expensive new releases. According to Jaguar engineering boss Mick Mohan, the company is tinkering with the possibility of producing a coupe version that could go wheel-to-wheel with the Audi A5 and the BMW 3-series.

In a conversation with Autocar, Mohan let it be known that the company plans on entering a market that would compete with the BMW’s and Audi’s of the world and that it is confident that whatever car they create would be competitive against its more established competitors.

"Personally, I’d love to make a compact coupe - an Audi a5 or BMW 3-series coupe rival,” he said. > More
