If you liked the Jeep Grand Cherokee Sports Concept unveiled at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, you will be very happy to know that the company has finally decided to come out with a production version. Thanks to a very positive consumer response, Jeep has announced that the new Grand Cherokee S Limited will go on sale starting September 2012.
The new Grand Cherokee S Limited follows the same design language of the concept: distinctive styling cues and Black accents for the exterior, Nappa leather and carbon fiber elements for the interior, and a 241 HP 3.0-litre V-6 turbo-diesel engine under the hood.
This special edition will also be equipped with Quadra-Trac II 4x4 system with two-speed transfer case and Brake Traction Control System (BTCS), as well as lots of premium safety features, including: Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, and Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross-path detection.

Exterior and Interior
On the exterior, the Grand Cherokee S Limited will get new roof molding covers to replace the roof rack and a black trim to further boost the aggressive flair of the SUV. Black has also been used for the grille which is highlighted by a mesh grille texture in platinum chrome. Jeep also added black headlamp bezels, a black liftgate light-bar, and black chrome dual exhaust tips. The final element is a new set of 20" black-gloss aluminum wheels.
The interior gets a leather-wrapped perforated heated steering wheel and ventilated sports-styled Nappa leather and suede seats. These elements have been combined with carbon fiber elements on the instrument panel and door trim panels.

Under the hood of the Grand Cherokee S Limited, Jeep has placed a 3.0-liter V-6 turbo-diesel engine with new-generation, 1.800-bar injectors and Multijet II technology. The engine delivers a total of 241 HP at 4,000 rpm and a peak torque of 405 lb-ft at 1,800-2,800 rpm. The engine is paired to a five-speed automatic transmission with Electronic Range Select (ERS).
As for the safety features, Jeep is offering the latest technological innovations: Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Electronic Rollover Mitigation (ERM), ABS with off-road calibration, Brake Traction Control System (BTCS), and 7 airbags (front seat, sidebags, side-curtain front and rear, seat-mounted).
The new Jeep Grand Cherokee S Limited will go on sale in September 2012. Prices will be announced at a later date.
The list of competitors for the new Jeep Grand Cherokee S Limited includes the usual Chevrolet Equinox and Toyota Highlander. The Equinox is powered by a choice of two engines: a 2.4L Ecotec direct injected I-4 with 182 hp and a 3.0L DOHC direct injected V6 engine estimated at 255 hp. The Highlander gets 3.5-liter V6 with a total of 270 HP.
