2014 Jeep Cherokee Urbane Concept

The Jeep Cherokee’s presence at the Beijing Auto Show just goes to show that Jeep is hitching a lot of its hopes on the SUV to be a sales hit in China. In an attempt to drum up even more interest in the Cherokee, Jeep decided that unveiling a pair of Cherokee concepts in Beijing, including the Urbane Concept, would be a smart idea. On that end, Jeep got it right.

Together with the Cherokee Sageland Concept, the Urbane Concept represents a stylish and upmarket Cherokee that gives the iconic American SUV more character than what you can get from its standard guise.

The Cherokee Urbane Concept certainly lives up its name, thanks to a treasure trove of new features on both its exterior and interior. Look closer and you might even notice that Jeep’s design details on the Urbane Concept carries a lot of Chinese elements that include old-school calligraphy and traditional Chinese windows.

It’s a real treat for the senses, especially if you’re one who appreciates unique, production-looking concepts like this particular Cherokee. It might still be a concept by the definition of the word, but we think there’s a production future for the Cherokee Urbane Concept.

And we’re not just talking about the Chinese market.

Jeep Cherokee Urbane Concept

The Jeep Cherokee Urbane Concept has been dressed in a Maximum Steel Metallic paint with black accents, successfully combining what Jeep describes as a "night life of a modern megacity with glamour and elegance." It’s a fancy description to a rather subdued color scheme, but once you get the hang of how it looks, the Urbane Concept actually looks pretty sexy.

A unique interior treatment was also given to this unique Cherokee concept. The dark-red Nappa leather on the seats with red accent stitching is pretty difficult to ignore, as is the Chinese calligraphy design that was implemented in brush stroke patterns in the door applique. Oh, and let’s not forget those floor mats. Yep, the floor mats. How many floor mats have you seen comes with a special decorative pattern drawing their inspiration from traditional Chinese windows? Not a lot, we’re guessing.

Press Release

Earlier this year the new Jeep Cherokee was launched in the Chinese market featuring modern Jeep design, best-in-class capability and the first nine-speed automatic transmission in its segment. With the introduction of the Sageland and Urbane design concepts, the Jeep brand demonstrates how the reach of the Cherokee could expand in new directions.

The design theme and color palette for the new Jeep Cherokee Sageland was inspired by the historical landmarks and natural sceneries found throughout the mystical expanse of the Shangri-La Region.

The concept’s exterior is painted in Ivory tri-coat Pearl with bronze grille collars and front and rear fascia appliques. The Daylight opening (DLO), roof rack, door mirror caps and exhaust tips are painted in Satin Bronze chrome, enhancing the overall look and adding to the unique style of this vehicle.

Inside Sageland, the earth-tone color palette continues with a combination of light, neutral grey Nappa leather seats with red and water blue accent stitches. The seats also feature stitching inspired by traditional Chinese knot design, and the pattern on the door appliques derived from the color and finish of Chinese ornamental door knobs.
