There's something really appealing about the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee that its Cherokee little brother just doesn't. Maybe its the way they look, and quite frankly, we don't dig the new design of the Cherokee that much.

That being said, the Grand Cherokee really fits our bill, more so now that Jeep decided to release a special edition Altitude model for its full-sized SUV->ke145. The model is based on the Laredo and is available in either a two-wheel- or four-wheel-drive configuration.

Unfortunately, no power upgrades we're given to the Grand Cherokee Altitude, although with its 3.6-liter, Pentastar V-6 engine that produces 290 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, we don't mind what the SUV already has at its disposal.

If you're looking to score one of these special edition bad boys, the Grand Cherokee Altitude retails at $35,290 for the 4x2 model and $37,290 for the 4x4 with an extra $995 for destination. A variety of colors are being offered, too, giving you a choice of shade that includes Billet Silver, Bright White, Brilliant Black Metallic Coat, Deep Cherry, Granite Crystal and Maximum Steel.

Exterior Detail

But what sets the Grand Cherokee Altitude apart are the special design cues Jeep->ke40 gave to it, beginning with an exterior that features gloss black bezel inserts on the front grille, fog lamp bezels, fancy badging, halogen headlamps with black bezels, grey satin gloss tail lamp bezels, an applique treatment on the lower front fascia of the SUV, and a new set of 20-inch five-spoke aluminum wheels.

And that's just the beginning of it. Look a little closer and you'll notice that the Grand Cherokee Altitude even has lower body-color fascias, wheel flares and side cladding, a body color antenna, an SRT-style roof rail, and bright dual exhaust tips.

We don't get overwhelmed too easily, but we have to give it to Jeep for successfully doing it with the Grand Cherokee Altitude.

Interior Detail

Moving inside, a smooth interior greets customers, touched up with black Capri leather seats that also has perforated suede inserts and black stitching. There's also a leather wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, a standard 8.4-inch Uconnect touch screen, and a power sunroof.

Special Jeep packages have also been installed, just in case everything you've read isn't good enough. For one, the Security and Convenience Group comes as standard and has some noteworthy additions, including remote start, auto-dimming rear view mirror, security alarm, 115 volt outlet, universal garage door opener, cargo cover, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, power liftgate, ParkView back-up camera and ParkSense rear back-up sensors.

We love the whole setup of the Grand Cherokee Altitude not because the vehicle itself already gets high marks from us, but because Jeep really took the time to give it the proper upgrades befitting its special edition label. The interior, in particular, is a combination of clean and sophistication, a well-placed balance that makes the cabin pop out without having too much clutter that some other SUVs might have.

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

he current-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee was unveiled at the 2010 New York Auto Show and for the 2014 model year, it has been updated with a new diesel engine and a new eight-speed automatic transmission.

As a result, customers will now have the possibility to choose between three engines: a 290-horsepower 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine, a 5.7-liter V-8 with an output of 360 horsepower and a new 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 engine that delivers a total of 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque.

With the Cherokee already receiving its next-generation looks, the belief is that the Grand Cherokee will follow suit. To that, we hope that Jeep decides to leave those new Cherokee headlights out of the Grand Cherokee. Just a thought, you know.

The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee is priced from $28,795.
