2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk Concept

A few days ago, Jeep announced that they would unveil six new vehicles at the annual Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah. Now, the company has unveiled the first official details on the concept. The first of them is the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk - a concept car that takes the car’s off-road capabilities to a new level, but also adds a more aggressive look.

The Trailhawk Concept is painted in Stone White and is combined with Mineral Gray on the grille surround, lower front applique, mirror caps, and rear light bar. Red is thrown into the equation on the grille mesh, front and rear tow hooks, Jeep logos on wheel center caps, and bolt holes in the alloy wheels. The concept will also get black headlamp surrounds, black exterior front and rear badging, Red "Trail Rated" badges on the front fenders, and a unique "Trailhawk" badge on the rear tailgate.

A more aggressive stance was provided thanks to the addition of a new set of 18" 5-spoke alloy Mineral Gray wheels wrapped in Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor off-road tires. Jeep has also added additional side-wall protection and modified Mopar rock rails – engineered to fully protect the lower body from rugged rocky terrain.

Video: Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 laps Nurburgring in 8:49

If there was ever a concern about how cool a car may be, all one would have to do is check it out as it takes its turn around the Nurburgring. As of late, the trips around the Nurburgring have included the BMW M5 and the new generation Porsche 911 Carrera, which both clocked in at under eight minutes. Now, it’s time for a larger model to throw down. The new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 lapped the ’Ring in 8:49 at the hands of Sabine Schmitz.

This time isn’t too shabby, but it still doesn’t outrun the 8:24 lap time achieved by the BMW X6 M. Looks like the American SUV still has a few tweaks to be done to perform better than its German competition.

The new Grand Cherokee SRT8 was revealed at the 2011 New York Auto Show and Chrysler put extensive efforts into the model to make it a cut above the rest. It is powered by a 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 that delivers an estimated 465 HP and 465 lb.-ft. of torque and can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. Top speed goes to 155 mph.

2012 Jeep Wrangler Traildozer

Jeep’s line-up of vehicles at the 2012 Easter Safari in Moab, Utah is rounding out into shape with the unveiling of two new vehicles - the Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk Concept and the Jeep Wrangler Traildozer - following last week’s announcement of the Mighty FC Concept, the J12, and the Wrangler Apache.

The Traildozer, in particular, is based on a Dozer Yellow 2012 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and was co-designed by Jeep and the engineering boys over at the American Expedition Vehicles (AEV). For the project, the two collaborating heads fixed up the Wrangler with some off-road body protection, Mopar premium front and rear bumpers, and rear corner guards. Likewise, the off-roader was also given a Mopar performance heat reduction hood, a Mopar half-door kit, and a Mopar/Warn 9.5 Cti winch. Inside, the changes, minimal as they are, include an AEV ’F-1’ leather seat trim kit and Mopar slush mats. The wheels configuration includes 37" Mickey Thompson Baja Claw radials mounted on Mopar Classic five-spoke wheels, with a fully-installed AEV Dualsport RS 3.5" suspension lift.

Then there’s the most significant modification on this vehicle: the engine upgrade! For the project, Jeep and AEV installed a bolt-in 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine that produces 470 horsepower and mated it to a Getrag 238 six-speed manual transmission with the power running through Rubicon-specific Dana 44 axles equipped with 4:10 gears and electronic locking differentials.

It doesn’t do much in the way of aesthetics, but the Jeep Wrangler Traildozer is a powerful workhorse hiding in an otherwise simple body.

2012 Jeep Wrangler Mopar Accessorized

Chrysler’s in-house aftermarket specialist, Mopar, specializes in developing accessories for a lot of the vehicles under the Chrysler umbrella. At the 2012 Easter Safari in Moab, Utah, Mopar is showcasing what they can do to a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with their fancy accessories.

The Wrangler, which has been unoriginally tagged as the "Wrangler Mopar Accessorized," is exactly what its name suggests. Based on the Wrangler Rubicon, Mopar added a slew of their aftermarket enhancements to turn this off-road raider into one that comes chalk-full of new goodies.

Among the modifications done include a Mopar rock rails, front and rear off-road bumpers, new windshield-mounted LED lamps, a new hard-top headliner, a Warn 9.5ti XP winch, a two-inch performance lift kit, and a new set of massive 35" Goodyear Wrangler tires wrapped in Classic five-hole wheels. Inside, Mopar added Kicker dash 6.5-inch two-way speakers, all-weather mats, a locking center console box, a rear cargo cubby cover, and an “Add-A-Trunk” partition in the cargo area.

There’s not much to go around for this vehicle other than Mopar showing off what it can do to a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon if you let them get their hands on one. Nevertheless, it’s still an interesting look at "what-could-be," especially if you’re in the market for a Wrangler Rubicon.

2012 Jeep Patriot Altitude

The third model in Jeep’s new Altitude series is based on the Patriot. Like the other two models - Compass Altitude and Grand Cherokee Altitude, the new Patriot Altitude will go on sale this May and it will be priced from $20,240 for 4x2 models and $23,275 for 4x4 models.

The new Patriot Altitude continues the same black theme of the other two models, but features more chrome and polished steel used for the lower fascia and rear step pad appliques, and the roof rails. The car rides on 17" high-gloss black aluminum wheels wrapped in Firestone BSW all-season touring tires.

The list of standard equipments includes: power heated exterior mirrors and heated seats, power windows (driver one-touch) and locks, continuously variable automatic transaxle, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, and includes numerous safety and security features, such as electronic stability control, electronic roll mitigation, Hill-start Assist (with manual transmission), and side-curtain air bags that cover all rows.

2012 Jeep Mighty FC Concept

Of all the concepts Jeep rolled out at the 2012 Easter Safari in Moab, Utah, you’d be hard-pressed to find one any more imposing than the Mighty FC Concept.

Really, the name says it all.

Built in honor of the Jeep Forward Control that roamed our streets from 1956 to 1965, the Mighty FC Concept was built with the idea of bringing the old-school look of the Forward Control back while also taking into account maneuverability and overall utility.

In building the Mighty FC Concept, Jeep designers took a 2012 Wrangler Rubicon and reconfigured the whole set-up, including the repositioning of the cabin over and ahead of the front axle, the lengthening of the wheelbase, and the addition of a custom built drop-side cargo box. Moreover, the cab on the Mighty FC Concept makes use of a roof that Jeep took from Mopar’s JK-8 conversion kit while the addition of a custom-designed front clip makes for a more imposing look to the concept. As for the interior, Jeep dressed it up with a bold, heavy-duty Katzkin leather while the cargo area was set-up to fit a full-width, drop-side tray-style bed that measures more than eight feet in length.

More than just the old-school look of the Mighty FC, Jeep also wanted to improve the concept’s handling and drivability. For that, engineers added Mopar’s new Portal Axle set, which offers the greatest amount of ground clearance without requiring excessive suspension lift. These axles are controlled with King coil-over assemblies, and together with Teraflex control arms and track bars, a new set of 40" tires mounted on custom Hutchinson 17-inch headlock wheels, a Warn 16.5 winch, and a Corsa stainless steel exhaust system, it makes for a ride that performs as ferociously as it is intimidating to look at.

Jeep set to bring six concepts at Easter Safari headlined by the Mighty FC Concept

Every year, Jeep makes it a point to attend the Easter Safari event in Moab, Utah, to show off some of their outrageous concepts. Last year, we saw a number of them in the Cherokee Overland, the Wrangler Mojave, and the Wrangler Blue Crush, among others.

For this year’s festivities scheduled on March 31, 2012, Jeep is bringing a new line-up of concepts - six in total - headlined by the Mighty FC Concept, the Wrangler Apache, and the J-12.

Details behind all the concepts have not yet been revealed because Jeep is taking the slow and steady tease route to draw up some interest in the concepts leading up to the event at the end of the month.

All in all, Jeep released three teaser sketches of the concepts they’re bringing to Easter Safari. For our money, we think that the red Wrangler is the J-12, the blue Wrangler is the Apache, and the huge pick-up is the Mighty FC Concept.

Be sure to head back here because as soon as all the concepts are unveiled, we’ll be running our takes on all of them individually. For now, though, consume these teaser sketches, and let us know what you think of them.

2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 Ferrari Edition

Jeep is celebrating the launch of the Grand Cherokee SRT8 on the European market with two custom-built versions of the SRT8 called the Ferrari Editions. It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to figure out that the SRT8’s transformation will be all about getting it to look like a Ferrari, at least in terms of colors and styling. Highlighting the transformation are exclusive Rosso Corsa colored exteriors, red leather interiors, and other odes to Ferrari, including being delivered to the Fiorano circuit in Maranello, Italy by Scuderia Ferrari Formula One drivers, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa.

The two special Gran Cherokee SRT8 units are painted in a special Rosso Corsa paint finish and then combined with a matte-black front grille and matte black dual-pane sunroof. The standout feature of the paint job is the race-inspired, glossy black driver’s stripe with a white accent going from the front bumper up through the hood, roof, rear spoiler, and ending at the rear bumper. The aggressive look of the car provided by the SRT-exclusive design and the Italian flag painted on the underside of the rear spoiler add to the appeal and are topped off with a new set of unique forged aluminum, 20-inch wheels painted black and a lowered (1.5 inches) suspension.

The interior of the Grand Cherokee Ferrari Edition comes with exclusive Ferrari Red leather inserts on the seats with sculpted bolsters. The leather-wrapped SRT8 steering wheel with mounted paddle shifters features red contrasting stitching, while the unique instrument cluster features yellow dials which give the cabin the look of the GT cars produced in Maranello.

If there was ever an SUV that could be categorized as automotive porn, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Ferrari Edition would be it. Unfortunately, the two shown in the picture will be the only two ever made unless a tuning firm picks it up somewhere. Hint, hint, all you tuners!

UPDATE 03/05/2012: Formula One stars Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso have just received their custom Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 Ferrari Edition models. Do you think they liked them? Hit the jump to find out!
