2011 Jeep Cherokee Overland
The 45th Moab Jeep Easter Safari is set to open on April 19, 2011 and as has been the case in recent years, Jeep and Mopar will be on hand to present a number of new customized vehicles for the attending public to swoon over. This year, a total of six vehicles will be displayed, one of which is a tuned-up Jeep Cherokee - Liberty here in the US - that has been christened as the Overland. Based on the 2011 Cherokee, the Overland has been set up with a 2.8-liter CRD 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine with a Selec-Trac II 4x4 system. In addition to the imposing powertrain, the Overland was also dressed up in a zebra safari paint pattern and fitted with an ARB 3-inch suspension lift and Old Man Emu shocks, as well as a set of Mickey Thompson 265/75-R16 MTZ tires that have been mounted on steel wheels. Mopar also added an ARB air locker in the rear differential and on-board air compressor to ensure increased traction for the hulking SUV. Likewise, Chrysler’s aftermarket company also gave the Overland a number of underbody protection equipment, including skid plates for the SUV’s front suspension, transmission, and transfer case. You’ll also find a host of other items like front and rear tow hooks, slush mats, cargo tray liner, sill guards and a new sport pedal kit. 2011 Jeep Wrangler Silver by Project Kahn
Project Kahn is just cranking out tuning projects. We just reported on the Panamera RS600 upgrade kit, now the British tuner has revealed the Silver Jeep Wrangler package, a sportier and aggressively smoother version of the package unveiled at the beginning of 2011. The new Silver edition has received a lowered suspension and a new set of RS wheels, size 9 X 20 and wrapped in 275 x 55 x 20 tires. For the interior, the tuner added a whole new personalized bespoke leather treatment. In fact, all of the interior will be tailor-made to the customer’s own specifications. However, like with the previous package, no changes were made under the hood. "This is not only an adventurous vehicle it is a style icon – well groomed and bursting with aggression. The vehicle ascertains personality and strength, and would not look out of place in both rough terrain and the city center," said Afzal Kahn. 2011 Jeep Wrangler Blue Crush
The 45th Moab Easter Jeep Safari isn’t scheduled until April 16, 2011, but even this early, Jeep is already giving us a look at what to expect when the annual event commences in a little over a week’s time. The annual tradition for Jeep and Chrysler’s aftermarket company Mopar has become a must-attend event for Jeep and Mopar fans alike. This year, the event is going to have six new concepts, including the monstrous and imposing Jeep Wrangler Blue Crush. In what Jeep describes as an off-terrain monster that combines “high-speed off-road racing and rock-crawling capability," the Wrangler Blue Crush’s powertrain is anything but a tweeting little bird. Sitting under the utility vehicle’s hood is a Mopar 426 cubic-inch HEMI V8 engine with an output of 540 horsepower and mated to a 545RFE performance transmission and a gear-drive transfer-case. Apart from the hulking engine and powerful performance capabilities, the Blue Crush also sports a baja-style full cage, short aluminum bumpers, a special off-road suspension system with internal bypass shocks, a front stabilizer bar, full hydro-steering, and in case you haven’t noticed yet, a set of 39” tires that are as imposing as they are useful in allowing the off-road vehicle to navigate rocky and uneven terrains. There’s absolutely nothing cute and funky about this beastly off-roader. The Jeep Wrangler Blue Crush means serious business. UPDATE 11/07/2011: The Jeep Wrangler Blue Crush was displayed at the current SEMA Show and we were there to take some live shots. Find them in the picture gallery and let us know what you think about this extreme Wrangler. 2011 Jeep Wrangler Renegade
Every year, Jeep and Mopar hold a special event for fans of the two brands. Now on its 45th year, the Moab Easter Jeep Safari has become an annual convergence of some eye-catching Jeep concepts, all of which have been made specifically for the event. The 45th Moab Easter Jeep Safari is scheduled for April 16th, 2011, but with more than a week left before the event begins, we’ve already gotten a few sneak peeks on the six concepts that are expected to appear on the show. This year, the event will feature three customized Jeep Wrangler models with one being given the designation as the ‘Renegade’. Just like the Blue Crush and the Pork Chop, the Renegade comes with its own unique features courtesy of Chrysler’s aftermarket company, Mopar. Of the many modifications given to the Wrangler, the Renegade model now sports a powerful 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine that produces 475 horsepower and mated to a six-speed manual transmission. In addition to the improvements done on the off-roader’s powertrain, Mopar also gave the Renegade a bevy of new items, including a heat dissipating hood, a new fuel door, sill guards, a bikini top, rock rails, slush mats, a half-door kit, a new winch-mounted front bumper, and a set of 35” Mickey Thompson Baja Claw radials that have been mounted on AEV Pintler wheels. It may not be as jarring as the Blue Crush or as peculiar as the Pork Chop, but the Renegade still holds a commanding and intimidating presence by the mere sight of it. The fact that it’s tailor-made for rough and tough terrain is a true indication of the off-roader’s capabilities. 2011 Jeep Wrangler Pork Chop
Easter Sunday isn’t scheduled until April 24th, 2011, but that didn’t stop the organizers of the 45th annual Moab Easter Jeep Safari from holding the event a week earlier on April 16th, 2011 in Utah. In what has become an annual tradition for Jeep and Chrysler’s aftermarket company Mopar, the two brands have used the Moab Easter Jeep Safari event to introduce a line of customized Jeep concepts to the gathered crowd in attendance. This year, Jeep and Mopar are introducing six new concepts to the event, one of which is the quirky-named Wrangler ‘Pork Chop’. Mopar took what began as a 2011 Jeep Wrangler Sport and shaved off some weight by dropping many elements found on the standard model, including the doors, the tailgate, the bumpers, the carpet, the sway bars, and the top, among other things. In addition to ridding itself of what apparently is 850 lbs worth of excess baggage, the car also got some new touches, including a custom roll cage, reshaped fender panels, a set of bright red lightweight Sparco ‘Chrono Road’ reclining bucket seats, a newly modified suspension system, a lowered windshield, and a set of Mickey Thompson 35” Baja Claw radials mounted on lightweight E-T Vintage V wheels. Just by looking at it, the custom Jeep actually looks really neat. The only problem we have is we don’t know why they ended up calling it ’Pork Chop’. 2011 Jeep Wrangler JK-8 Independence
Jeep Wrangler is no doubt a very cool car, for those of you who enjoy these kind of cars. But what do you think about a Wrangler pick-up? Sounds even better, don’t you agree? Called JK-8 Independence this specil Wrangler takes its inspiration from the 1980’s, Mopar and features a 50 inches long bed, while the width between wheel wells is 44 inches. In order to create the pick-up style bed for the outside cargo, the Wrangler has been transformed into a two-seater model, with all the interior parts behind the front seats being removed. The JK-8 Independence has been equipped with a Mopar/Dynatrac ProRock 44 front axle and stock Dana 44 rear axle, a 4.5-inch long-arm suspension kit and 37-inch BF Goodrich Mud Terrain KM2 tires. The car is painted in yellow and its design is further distinguished by off-road bumpers for the front and rear, a new fuel door and slush mats. The JK-8 kit also includes bed floor, inner/outer body panels, half hard top (works with Freedom Top panels), and a new bulkhead. UPDATE 07/14/2011: Jeep has announced prices for the 2011 Mopar JK-8 Kit that enables owners to transform their Jeep Wrangler Unlimited into a pickup. With only $5,499, the company will dissemble and reassemble your Jeep. Major components of the Mopar JK-8 kit include a steel bed, inner and outer bedsides, sport bar extensions, Freedom panel assemblies, fiberglass hardtop, and bulkhead. 2011 Jeep Compass
In 2007, Jeep launched a vehicle that was an abomination of this classic American title. The name on the back of the car read Compass, but direction was the one thing Jeep just didn’t have with this particular model. Our guess is that Jeep had no idea in which direction to head in next. The exterior was classic Chrysler, as they attempted to give crossover buyers some Jeep attitude, but instead insulted them with fake muscular looks. Sort of like a body builder on steroids, the previous-generation Compass was all show and nothing underneath. The interior was plastered in cheap plastics and a design that would damage retinas. Basically, what buyers were forced to live with was a Dodge Caliber that was more expensive and useless. Hard to believe the Jeep actually kept the name for this next-generation model. However, nearly four years later, the Compass is back and that needle may finally be pointed in the right direction. More details on the Jeep Compass after the jump. Project Kahn may have a thing for LandRover models, but the British tuner has settled right in with another luxurious SUV: the Jeep Wrangler. They may have only added a cool new black exterior color and some impressive wheels, but the result was top notch nonetheless. The new set of 19" RS wheels was designed by Kahn and truly highlights the Jeep’s beautifully aggressive exterior. The set has been designed to take the original center cap from Jeep and will be available immediately. The price is set at a reasonable £185+vat in silver and £195+vat in black and will be available in limited stock. The tuner recommends the wheels be fit with size 275 x 55 x 20 tires. "We have designed this wheel with the off road enthusiast in mind and we would like this design to compliment a great vehicle and offer the owner the opportunity to have a sense of individuality and break from the norm. There are many wheels currently available but not all of them are suited to the rough terrain and we question whether some of them can sustain the high off road usage that owners of these vehicles expect." Not many tuners have decided to attack the Wrangler with some updates, so Project Kahn’s minimal package looks pretty good in our eyes. Now if we bring to light some of the special editions that have been created out of the off-road vehicle then this package would be meek at best. At the top of our list of special edition Wranglers is the Call of Duty: Black Ops Edition. Now that’s a hooked up Wrangler! 2011 Jeep Compass
Chrysler has officially lifted the covers off of the 2011 Jeep Compass, giving the brand a nice little sidekick to their highly-touted flagship model, the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Combining an improved aesthetic design with a surprisingly efficient drivetrain – 23 mpg on the city and 29 mpg on the highway in all-wheel drive – and an affordable price tag, the 2011 Compass is looking more and more like a worthy contender in the compact SUV market. “With the new 2011 Jeep Compass, we’ve applied the premium design cues of our award-winning new Grand Cherokee,” said Mike Manley, President and CEO - Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “Combined with new interior appointments, and refinements to the suspension and steering systems, Jeep Compass provides consumers the ultimate combination of styling, capability, fuel economy, efficiency, safety and value in the important compact-SUV segment.” The 2011 Compass is going to be built at Jeep’s Belvidere Assembly Plant in Belvidere, Illinois. The vehicle is expected to arrive in Jeep showrooms across America in the coming weeks. UPDATE 03/07/2011: Check out our review of the 2011 Jeep Compass by clicking here! In 2011, Jeep is turning 70 years old, which means that we’re going to be seeing a year-long celebration from these guys consisting of parties, promotions, and special edition vehicles. Well, it didn’t take long for them to cross one off of their list. At the Detroit Auto Show, Jeep rolled out five special edition models for the Compass, Grand Cherokee, Liberty, Patriot, and Wrangler SUVs. Despite the special edition labels attached to them, the five anniversary models don’t come with a lot of exterior and performance upgrades with Jeep focusing instead on the SUVs’ interior. Not that we’re complaining or anything because those interior upgrades look mighty nice as far as we’re concerned. The cheapest option of the five models will be the Patriot 70th Anniversary Edition, which has been priced at $22,870. It’s a far cry from the line-up topping Grand Cherokee, which comes at $36,495, but if anyone is looking for a special edition 70th Anniversary Jeep that comes at an affordable price, the Patriot version is the best option available. Details for the Jeep Patriot 70th Anniversary Edition can be found after the jump. Full story | featured reviews:
