2012 K1 Evelio

Looks like the Tesla Roadster is going to have a new rival in the race for electric sports car supremacy. Unveiled at the recent Goodwood Festival of Speed, the K1 Evelio is the latest in what is becoming a growing number of electric sports cars looking to enter the market to give Tesla a serious run for its money.

If the car looks familiar to you, it’s because it’s based on the Slovakian sports car, the K-1 Attack Roadster , a car that has graced our pages on numerous occasions. According to the people over at K1, the Evelio pretty much has the same body as the Attack Roadster, except that it has an electric powertrain as opposed to the 2.0-liter V6 engine found on the latter.

Details behind the car are still limited - the company’s website is still bare bones - but from what we’ve sourced, the Evelio appears to have a body that’s made out of fiberglass while the chassis comes in a tubular steel space frame. Likewise, smaller items used on the car were crafted in aluminum.

More details on the K1 Evelio after the jump.

As for the powertrain, the Evelio is expected to carry the same phosphate-based lithium ion battery system that can be found under another one of its soon-to-be rivals, the Fisker Karma . This particular set-up allows the battery pack to be charged more quickly and the range of the battery to last up to 100-150 miles depending on how the car is driven.

All in all, the K1 Evelio is expected to produce as much as 200 horsepower with a top speed of 90 mph - well over the 125 mph the Tesla Roadster is capable - because it only carries a single-speed gearbox. Blame the lack of funds for that. Despite the pedestrian top speed, the Evelio can still hit ’north-to-60’ in just 3.2 seconds.

K1 Evelio

For now, the Evelio is still a prototype vehicle with the company looking for more funds to come pouring in for the project to move in the right direction. The car looks great, if you ask us, and given the dearth of options - for now, at least - in the electric sports car segment, we’re really hoping that these guys can get the finances it needs to further develop what looks to be a promising electric sports car.

Nice car! I like the concept and theme of this K1 Evelio! Anyway, the platform design is quite impressive, and I love how they managed to combine the decent look and the sporty appearance on it.

Impressive indeed. I like how the car looked alive and on character gear up. Definitely not the usual car. Very bold, enhanced and innovative.

Yeah right. I also heard that rumor that Bristol will create an electric super car.. Speaking of cable charging, it is widely used nowadays so I beg to disagree with you Andy. Most electric cars preferred to use cable charging because of its reliability.

For an electric car, if you have a 200 hp is good but we all know that other manufacturers are building a more powerful car just like what Bristol of UK trying to make. He is on his way to create the electric super car.

Still I don’t like the edginess of this vehicle. And I would say that it doesn’t have an impressive modification on its aerodynamic kit. Plus, I think the cable charging is kind of unreliable!

I wonder if this vehicle have plans in joining the France Grand Prix for electric car. Well, I really don’t find the electric car reliable.

Well, the smaller items they used on this one lessen the weight of the car, thus it will give a faster output. The exterior of the car is really sporty but somehow makes me think that it is a vacuum cleaner because of the front design.

It’s a good thing they are promoting electric sports car. This is a unique idea but still a good one. By the way, I wonder if it can reach the speed and power performance that a sports car must have.

An electric sports car? I think it’s not advisable for a sports car to be in hybrid but despite that, I must agree that this is the first sports car that has a design like this. It’s still a prototype so think twice if you really want this to be an electric sports car.

who can reject this one? A futuristic yet elegant car. But I think it needs more power and performance for me to say that it is really a sports car.

Nice car! I like the concept and theme of this K1 Evelio! It was the first sportscar I’ve ever seen with a design like this! I can’t wait it’s launching! ha ha..

The face of the car looks like an enzo! I doubt if this car will make it on it production version! I think it would be better if they offer a gasoline engine for this future car.

Hell! The car look so edgy and I don’t like the styling on its front. The power output is lesser compare to a sedan. And I really doubt the reliability of electric car for I believe that its still needs a further research.
