It looks like Kia is on the right track with the new Soul. This spy video shows an original design that seems to make the most of its compact space. The Soul will have its official debut this October at the Paris Auto Show.
It will be powered by a 1.6-liter engine in gas and diesel forms. Both power units are based closely on the 16-valve DOHC engines fitted to the acclaimed European-built, Kia cee´d.
Kia will unveil the 2009 SOUL on October 2nd, at the Paris Auto Show, and sales should begin in the U.S. by April 2009. The U.S. market will get a choice of the 1.6 or 2.0-liter gasoline engines, while Europe will also receive a 1.6-liter diesel option.
The front-wheel drive Soul is the replacement for the little-loved Spectra5. The Soul will be available as a five-door hatchback only and will have relatively small dimensions. It has an overall length of 161 inches (riding on a 100 inch wheelbase.)
Kia revealed new informations on the SOUL SUV that will make its world debut this autumn at the Paris Auto Show. SOUL will be manufactured in Korea starting November 2008 and sales will begin in February 2009.
SOUL will be powered by a choice of two highly efficient 1.6-litre engines, both petrol and diesel. Both powerunits are based closely on the 16-valve DOHC engines fitted to the hugely successful, European-built, Kia cee´d.
Kia has also confirmed that the new Soul model, which will be available exclusively as a five-door hatchback with front-wheel drive, will have an overall length of 4,105 mm, and a 2,550 mm wheelbase. Height will be 1,610 mm and width 1,785mm - excluding door mirrors.
The eagerly awaited Kia Soul will tease concertgoers this summer with a sneak-peek appearance during the 2008 Vans Warped Tour(R). As part of Kia Motors’ exclusive vehicle sponsorship of the tour, a specially-designed lightly camouflaged preproduction Soul will be on display at the Kia Soul Lounge at every Vans Warped Tour stop. This will be the public’s first opportunity to see the Soul up close before the production vehicle makes its world debut later this year at the Paris Motor Show. The Soul will go on sale in the United States spring 2009.
The Kia Soul is not ready to bare all just quite yet. While much of the car will be on display for all to see, its dress leaves much to the imagination. The Soul will feature a "pair of Vans" in the form of partial front and rear masks bearing Vans’ signature checkerboard pattern. Red wheel spokes and side mirrors tease out its fun and naughty side, while darkened windows help Soul maintain its mysterious allure until its Parisian debut. Kia and Vans Warped Tour badges on the front and rear with Vans logos running down each side scream that this vehicle is ready for action.
Kia announced that the SOUL (previewed by the three concepts at the Geneva Motor Show) will make its world debut this autumn at the Paris Auto Show. A first official image was release few days ago, and now here are the latest spy shots.
Kia Soul will compete with the Mini and Fiat 500 and will go on sale with a price of £7,000.
The three concept cars – SOUL Burner, SOUL Diva and SOUL Searcher – were created by Kia´s European design team led by Gregory Guillaume, under the guidance of Kia´s Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer. They were developed from the original SOUL concept car designed jointly by Kia´s California and Korea design studios and unveiled in 2006 at Detroit.
Kia announced that the new Soul small car will be offered to both the United States and China market. The five-seater will be produced for the Chinese market at a Kia plant in China in December 2009. Sales in USA will begin in early 2009.
The car, code-named AM, is the next step, after the Borrego SUV, in Kia’s strategy to reshape the brand’s exterior design. The Soul concept was shown first in Detroit in January 2006. It was displayed in Geneva in March with a new "tiger nose" grille by Peter Schreyer, Kia’s head of design.
Schreyer has said he wants to give Kias a more distinct look. In his corner is Tom Kearns, who came from Cadillac and did the main design work on the Soul.
The Soul was developed with buyers of the Toyota Scion and Honda Fit in mind. The car is expected to get a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine with front-wheel drive.
Kia will unveil the production version of the SOUL in September at the Paris Motor Show. And why there’s no wonder they couldn’t keep everything secret until then? Here are the first images of the production version of the Crossover that was previewed in Geneva by the three Soul Concepts: Diva, Burner and Searcher.
Even if there are no other details about the production version, it looks like the Soul will be a pretty serious competitor for models like Pontiac Vibe, Scion xB.

Kia unveiled today at the Geneva Motor Show the three SOUL Concepts - all three being closely related to a new production car which will make its World Premiere at the Paris Show in September.
The three Soul Concepts are: Diva, Burner and Searcher. The Kia SOUL Diva has been created as a fashion accessory for a style-conscious young-at-heart woman who regards her car to be as important as her entire outfit. SOUL Diva is like a supermodel with an aura of glamour, a bit flashy but playful and fun!
The Burner is the ´bad boy´ of Kia´s three new concept characters. A ´show-off´ complete with dragon tattoos. From the outside, it is a mean, totally black beast with sparse flashes of scarlet. The tattoos are gloss black on the black satin paintwork, which shows a large dragon creeping over the bonnet. On the other side, a small dragon climbs up the C-Pillar.
The Searcher is the concept that provides a haven of tranquility within the urban jungle, a comfort-zone on four wheels. It sets out to capture the spirit of Korean and Far Eastern culture with a focus on achieving personal inner peace and creating a calm cocoon for the occupants. Exuding casual confidence, the colors are muted, the textures are soft and the road presence is discreet.

Three new SOUL concept cars to be unveiled by Kia at the Geneva Show on 4 March, will reveal a whole new ´fun´ side to the Korean brand. The trio are closely related to a forthcoming production model which will defy classification and encourage Kia customers to build an emotional bond with their new car.
The SOUL concepts highlight ´the world of possibilities´ for accessories, customising and personalisation that will be opened to future Kia customers by the new model with its special appeal to the young-at-heart – whatever their age!
One of them will be the SOUL Burner (pictured), the "bad boy" of the concept trio complete with satin black finish and gloss dragon tattoos…
