2009 Kia Soul’ster

Kia announced that is would bring a special version of its Soul compact crossover to the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. As we got closer to the show, it began to seem that Kia did more than just add a few new panels to its newest economy car. Instead Kia lobbed off the roof and two doors to create a cool budget-friendly beach buggy it calls the Soul’ster.

It’s of course no surprise that Kia says that the car can be offered with any of the four engines that are available for the Soul sedan/crossover. So if Kia were to put this into production it could come with one of four gas and diesel options offered internationally (the U.S. will only get the 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas engine making 140 hp). But remember that is IF Kia puts this little guy into production.

Press release after the jump.

Excited? Yeah, neither are we, but maybe Kia will surprise us all.

The Cabrio version was photoshoped by a member of Kia World.

So, what do you think, should Kia stop at the Crossover version and should it also come with new versions?
