2013 Kia Soul Shaker

British customers will enjoy a new addition to their already very impressive Kia Soul Originals collection. The new addition, the Soul Shaker will be offered in both petrol and diesel engine variants and will carry a relatively low price.

The model sits above the "2" specification version and shares some high-tech features with other models in the Soul Originals range, including iPod and Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control and air conditioning.

When compared to other Soul models in the lineup, the new Shaker edition will be distinguished by an exclusive paintjob, a new set of alloy wheels, and premium interior in a new unique ’Houndstooth’ design.

Kia also paid intensive attention to the car’s safety level and equipped the new Shaker with technologies like electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution, vehicle stability management and hill-start assist control.

Hit the jump to ream more the 2013 Kia Soul Shaker.

Exterior and interior

Kia Soul Shaker

The new Soul Shaker will be distinguished by its special Vanilla Shake paintjob offered as standard — Quartz Black metallic is a no-cost option. The model will also receive a set of 18-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, LED rear combination lamps and high mounted brake light.

For the interior, the model adds premium cloth upholstery in a new unique ’Houndstooth’ design, combined with striking beige interior surfaces. Customers will also receive an electric tilt-and-slide sunroof, an automatically dimming rearview mirror with an integrated color reversing camera, iPod and Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control (diesel model only), and air conditioning.

Engine

The new Kia Soul Shaker will be offered with a choice of two engines. First there will be a 1.6-liter CRDi turbo-diesel engine that delivers a total of 126 horsepower at 4,000 rpm and a peak torque of 192 pound-feet delivered between 1,900 to 2,750 rpm. This engine is mates to a six-speed manual transmission and will sprint the Shaker from 0 to 60 mph in 10.3 seconds. The Soul Shaker will hit a top speed of 112 mph.

The second choice is a 1.6 GDi petrol engine that delivers a total of 138 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and 122 pound-feet torque at 4,850 rpm. This version will sprint from 0 to 60 mph 0.3 seconds faster than the CRDi version, but will hit the same top speed of 112 mph.

Prices

The new Kia Soul Shaker is priced at £15,295 ($24,200 at the current exchange rates) for the 1.6 GDi version, while the diesel version is offered with a manual transmission for £16,690 ($26,400) or with an automatic transmission for £17,795 ($28,200).

Competition

If you are looking for a model with the same funky appearance, the Nissan Cube would be the first choice. Unfortunately, that isn’t an option, as Nissan hasn’t released the Cube to its British customers.

In the UK, customers will have to turn their attention to models like the Suzuki SX4 . The model is just about to enter a new generation sometime in late 2013. Initial details suggest the model will get a design inspired by the Kizashi sedan, plus a new lineup of smaller engines. Top version will receive a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with an output of about 150 horsepower and will be offered in front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive configurations.

Press Release

Kia Soul Shaker

The Soul ‘Shaker’ returns to the Soul Originals line up joining its Originals stable-mates – Soul ‘Quantum’ and Soul ‘Inferno’ – at the top of the recently revised Soul range, priced from £15,295 on-the road.

The Soul ‘Shaker’ sits in the Soul line-up above the ‘2’ specification version and shares some high-tech features with other models in the Soul Originals range. These include iPod and Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control (diesel model only) and air conditioning, as well as LED daytime running lights, LED rear combination lamps and high mounted brake lights. Inside, there are steering wheel mounted controls and both the steering wheel and gearshift are leather-trimmed.

The ‘Shaker’ is distinguished by its Vanilla Shake coloured bodywork or, for no extra cost, is available in Quartz Black metallic. Distinctive multi-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels give the ‘Shaker’ a purposeful stance.

The design-focused look continues inside with premium cloth upholstery in a new unique ‘Houndstooth’ design, combined with striking beige interior surfaces. Further features include an electric tilt-and-slide sunroof, and an automatically-dimming rear view mirror with an integrated colour reversing camera.

The Soul Originals first appeared on the market in 2009, conceived in the spirit of a fashion collection – being frequently updated with distinct styles and personalities.

Powered by a 1.6 CRDi 126bhp turbo-diesel engine, and mated to a six-speed manual transmission, Soul ‘Shaker’ delivers 126bhp at 4,000rpm and 192lb/ft torque from 1,900rpm to 2,750rpm. Top speed is 112mph and the 0-60mph dash is dispatched in 10.3 seconds. C0₂emissions are just 129g/km – putting the car in VED Band D. Fuel Economy is 57.6mpg on the official combined cycle.

The 1.6 GDi petrol engine delivers 138bhp at 6,300rpm and 122lb/ft torque at 4,850rpm. The top speed is 112mph and 60mph is reached in 10 seconds flat.

Soul ‘Shaker’ receives the same comprehensive technical package and safety measures as the rest of the Soul range. Electronic stability control (ESC) and anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution (EBS), vehicle stability management (VSM) and hill-start assist control (HAC) provide a comprehensive level of active safety whist twin front, side and curtain airbags provide occupants with a reassuring level of passive safety.

The Soul ‘Shaker’ is rated at insurance group 19 and has service intervals of 12 months or 10,000 miles on the GDi engine and 12,500 miles on the CRDi engine.

The Soul ‘Shaker’ is priced from £15,295 for the 1.6 GDi version. The diesel is priced at £16,690 and is also available as an automatic for £17,795. As with all new Kias, the Soul ‘Shaker’ comes with a fully-transferable seven year warranty.

I think that the exterior color isn’t so relevant, for the reasons we should love this little guy

It’s hard for me to decide wether this is a good or not so good car.I tend to see other and other details that ruin my theories..but the price is still good!

Only 60 mph? That’s a shame...it’s too bad that this goog car is not so powerfull...

With such a great engine, and such a good price, this is one of the best cars I have seen in a while..

I think that this is actually a cute name for a car.. Soul .It’ sounds spiritual, and it looks pretty, as well..

Oh my God!A puppy-eyed car, with leather seats, at the most reasonable price ever! That’s just greaT!!

such a good price!Too bad only the UK guys can gather it..It seems like germans aren’t so lucky right now..

Mmm, soul shaker , heart breaker!I guess they could have worked a little bit more at the design..
