As the car world goes absolutely bananas over the release of the quarter-mile killing insane-o-mobile known as the Demon at the 2017 New York International Auto Show, Koenigsegg is providing anyone with muscle car overload with a little respite. Say hello to the Agera RS1, a speedy Swedish meatball that’s far more car than the domestic straight-line one-trick pony from Dodge.

Koenigsegg first launched production of the Agera in 2011, and updated it by adding upgrades and special iterations every few years. The most notable of these is the venerable One:1, which was released at the Geneva Motor Show in 2014 with an incredible one-to-one power-to-weight ratio, producing one horsepower for every kg of curb weight.

The Agera RS could be considered a follow up to the One:1, using a lot of the same equipment but with a slightly less bonkers power-to-weight ratio. That said, it’s still very fast, offering an impressive 0.83 horsepower per kg.

Regardless, the Agera RS is an absolute performance powerhouse, framed as “the ultimate track tool” for buyers. This RS1 model is the first example off the production line, bearing a bespoke exterior and interior worthy of such a machine.

Only 25 Agera RS models will be built, all of which were spoken for as of January of last year. Read on for more info on what makes this thing so damn beastly.

What Makes The Koenigsegg Agera RS1 Special

In case you were unaware, the word “agera” is Swedish for “act,” but considering the specs, perhaps the Swedish word for “hyper-active” would have been more appropriate.

Mounted in the middle of this thing is a twin-turbo 5.0-liter V-8, which produces 1,360 horsepower and 1,011 pound-feet of torque. This spec is as known as the 1MW pack, or 1 MegaWatt, an optional extra on the Agera RS. It’s the same engine that’s used in the One:1, and while the RS is a little heavier, that power level ain’t too shabby for a vehicle weighing in at just 3,075 pounds.

Sending all that grunt rearwards is a seven-speed automatic transmission. Properly motivated, the Agera RS is capable of reaching 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill in 2.8 seconds, and can hit 300 km/h (186 mph) from rest in 12.3 seconds.

But it’s not just fast in a straight line – the Agera RS is also really good at cornering. Thanks to its elongated front and rear double wishbone suspension, active dampers, and active aerodynamic systems, the RS can generate as much as 1.8 G’s of lateral grip, all while producing as much as 450 kg (992 pounds) of downforce at 250 km/h (155 mph).

Furthermore, Koenigsegg developed the RS’s various active performance systems, including the engine management, traction control, and stability control, all in-house.

In addition to being monstrously fast and endlessly capable on the track, the RS1 is also rather spiffy-looking, both inside and out. The carbon exterior was slathered in Arctic White paint, fitting considering its origins, while various trim bits and aero (brake calipers, front wing, side skirts, rear diffuser, rear wing, etc.) are highlighted in blue. We think it looks good in a hyper-cool sorta way. What’s more, the owner can manually remove the roof and store it in the front trunk if a little extra atmosphere is desired.

Inside, the blue theme continues with bright Alcantara upholstery, which gets counterbalanced by a bare carbon fiber weave and black anodized aluminum trim pieces. It looks tasty, and the owner still get the goods you’d expect in a road car, such as climate control, navigation, Bluetooth, electronic seats (made from carbon, of course), an adjustable pedal box, a hydraulic lifter to raise the nose over speed bumps, and more.

Without a doubt, the RS1 is a very special car, and we’re excited to see further examples of the Koenigsegg Agera in the near future.
